Chapter 161

The paramedic and the ambulance tried their best to stabilise Elena as they drove to the hospital. Wave was also thoroughly checked, and they made sure that he was okay, but he wouldn't stop crying for his mother and aunty Zoey.

After a while, Zoey coughed, and her eyes were slightly opened. “Elena?” she called. She looked around, calling for Elena. She felt relieved when she saw Elena lying beside her. With time, she was stabilised, and her pulse and heartbeat were back to normal.

She looked over to see Wave tearing up, and she looked down at Elena lying on the stretcher as the rest of the paramedics tried to revive her.

Her eyes became watery, and she stood up and wrapped her arms around him tightly. She gave him a gentle kiss on his hair. “Mummy is going to be alright; let's have faith,” she said, gently squeezing his hands.

They both held Elena’s hands, and after a short while, they arrived at the hospital. They got down, and the paramedics rushed Elena into the hospital in a haste. Immediately, Sam arrived. Wave rushed to Sam and hugged him tightly.

He began crying, and the only word he could say was to call his mother.

Zoey watched him with her red and puffy eyes. She didn't know what to say as tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably.

“What about Elena?” he asked urgently. His eyes were widened, and he was frightened.

“She had responded. The doctors are doing all they can to see that she is stable.” Zoey explained as they ran to the hallway near the ward.

Sam was almost breaking down, but he remembered that he had to stay for Wave and Zoey. He carried Wave in his arms and consoled him.

“She is going to be alright. Mama would be fine,” he said, staring into Wave's eyes to assure him. “You have to be strong for your mama. "She needs you to be strong, okay?” he asked.

Wave nodded his head, and soon he stopped crying. They waited patiently in the hallway, trying to see if they would get any information, but they got none.

After a while, the doctor walked out of the ward, and they all rushed to him. “Doctor, how is Elena?” they asked, fixing their gaze at him.

The doctor wasn't looking so great. “There is no news yet. The smoke filled her lungs. We are still trying as we can. Have to take her into the theatre. We will try all we can right now. Please excuse,” he said and walked out.

The nurses brought out Elena from the ward as she lay in the stretcher. They hurriedly dragged her to the other end of the hallway, where the theatre was.

Zoey followed them up with her chest rising and falling rapidly: “Elena. You are a fighter and a survivor. Please keep fighting,” she spoke as she followed them.

She stopped in front of the door as they got into the theatre, and she went down on her knees.

The nurses rushed her out of the ward immediately to the theatre room. They took some instruments back to the theatre. Her eyes followed them back and forth.

Zoey couldn't hold back her tears. Sam tried to keep Wave’s eyes away, and he tried to be strong. "Elena, you are a fighter; you have to fight.” He spoke under his breath:

They said, and after a few minutes, the doctor walked out of the theatre. They rushed to him, “doctor. How is Elena doing?” They asked urgently, and their voice was filled with worry.

The doctor smiled and nodded his head. “It is a miracle. She had been stabilised, and her pulses are responding perfectly, the doctor said. The door opened, and Elena was taken back to the ward with a stretcher.

They all breathed out feeling relieved. “Can we see her now in the room?” Sam asked as his eyes lit up as they watched them take Elena into the room.

“She needs to rest, Miss Zoey; please come with the boy. You both need to be checked and have some tests carried out,” he said.

“Right away,” she responded, and they followed the doctor from behind. They felt happy that Elena was recovering, and they couldn't wait to see her up.

After a while, the tests were carried out, and they walked out feeling tired and cold. Sam brought some blankets from his car and covered them.

“You both should get some rest. You can stay at my place. I will stay here and watch over Elena,” he said.

Zoey shook her head as she tried to protest, but Sam stopped them. “The little boy needs to rest, and also you. My driver will take you home. Get some rest, and you both can come to see her in the morning.” Sam explained.

Zoey nodded her head; she didn't want to go, but Sam was right. They both needed rest. “Thank you so much, Sam. Please take care of yourself and watch over Elena,” she said.

Sam stayed up all night long and watched Elena. He didn't take his eyes off her. He felt relieved that they had all been stabilised and they weren't badly injured.

He reached Elena’s hands and gently squeezed it, “I will always be here for you, Elena. Hang in there. You have to be strong. Always know that I love you,”
