Chapter 160

I stirred on my bed in my deep sleep, and when I perceived some awful smell, it wafted into my nostrils. I tried to brush it off, thinking it was nothing. turned to the other side of the bed and cuddled me up when the smell became pungent and sweat was beginning to gather on my forehead and the top of my lips as my body responded.

I brushed off my forehead with my palm when my eyes were opened. My eyes widened when I saw the scary sight. smoke covering the room, I could barely see. My heart raced, and I quickly turned my head to the window when I saw fire coming from outside. The flames were so thick and scary.

I quickly opened my door, filled with energy, and rushed to the hallway while I was coughing and panting. Everywhere was filled with smoke, and I couldn't see clearly. My breath was beginning to cease.

I rushed to wake Wave up and covered him with a wet blanket. I held him in my hands and ran to the front door. Struggling with my sight, I pushed him out to the front foot, and when he was out, the fire worsened.

Then I remembered Zoey. She had a lot to drink; she must be fast asleep. I quickly rushed to her too and pushed the door open. I hurriedly woke her up, and we started to run out, but the fire was too much. The ceilings were beginning to fall down in flames.

There was a plank that was about to fall from the ceiling, which was filled with fire, so I pushed Zoey out the front door and stepped back as the plank hit the ground, causing a huge demarcation between me and the front door.

I could hear noises from outside, and the sirens of firefighters were coming from afar. I looked at the window to see that it was already covered in flames. I was so scared, and my heart was racing fast. The only thing I thought about was my son.

Was this how I would die? How would you take care of my son? I thought to myself, then I shook my head.

“Elena,” I heard from outside. People screamed my name. I need to escape. I have to fight it. I tried to escape, but the smoke was too much for me to bear, and there was no space for me to run out.

I decided to get a wet blanket and lie flat on the ground to wait for the firefighters, but time wasn't on my side. I was choking really hard, and my chest tightened. My eyes were red, and it was hurting so bad.

I tried my best to stand and run out of the kitchen when I fell to the ground and darkness covered my eyes. I became unconscious.

Zoey stood outside feeling frustrated as they waited for the firefighters to go in and rescue Elena, but they were taking so long. She was so restless, and her heart was pounding fast.

She looked at Wave, and he was in tears. All she could hear was him calling out to his mother. He stayed with the medics as they checked him. She didn't have a choice but to go in there and save her friends. She stood up and was about to leave when one of the women rushed to her.

“Maam, please, you can't go in there. It's too dangerous for you,” she said, holding her arms together.

“My friend is in there. Elena is in there; why hasn't she been brought out?” Zoey shouted as tears rolled down her cheeks.

“No, I have to go.” She wiped her tears, but the people ran to her and tried to stop her. Wave watched them as tears rolled down his cheeks.

Immediately, the firefighters walked outside, and they removed her mask. She searched their eyes for answers and was becoming impatient.

“Where is Elena? Where is she?” She asked, her voice cracking, and she coughed.

“We couldn't find her in there,” the men spoke as they shook their heads. “It's too dangerous to go back in there. The fire had worsened.”

“That's it, I'm going in there,” she spoke, and she hurriedly ran back into the house. The men tried to stop her, but it was too late.

Zoey ran inside while she choked continuously, “Elena! Elena! Where are you?” She screamed as she searched everywhere.

Her eyes landed on Elena on the kitchen floor when she ran to her. Her eyes widened when she saw that Elena had already been out.

“Elena, wake up. We have to get out of here,” she shouted and tried to carry Elena, but her strength failed her.

With all of her might, she raised Elena up, "Elena, please let's do this. For me, for your son,” she was pleased, and immediately, Elena coughed.

“Please save yourself. I can't do this,” she said, her voice hoarse.

"Elena, you can. I am not giving up on you,” Zoey shouted and dragged Elena out of the house.

They came out together, and the neighbours jubilated as the men rushed to them. They both fell to the ground and became unconscious.
