Chapter 37

Elena’s POV:

My heart skipped a bit, and I stood frozen. Zoey was in front of me as she chatted about the whole day's activities, not knowing that I had been behind.

My jaw dropped, and my eyes widened.

“Elena, why did you stop?” Zoey asked, and she turned back to me.

I decided to quickly walk away from him when he held my hands. “Elena, we need to talk,” he said.

I quickly removed my hand from his grip and said, "Stay away from me. There is nothing to talk about.” I spoke and wanted to walk away when he held my hands.

Zoey quickly ran to me and saw that it was Caleb that I was talking to. I struggled to remove my hand from his grip.

“Let go of her now, you scumbag?” Zoey ordered, her voice rising. Caleb gave her a daring look and turned to me.

He released my hands, and I wanted to walk away from him as quickly as I could. When he tried to hold my hand again, I raised my hand and landed it on his face, giving him a dirty slap.

“I never want to cross paths with you. Let me the fuck alone.” I warned, my voice rising.

“You cheated on me, and you have the guts to slap me? How dare you?” He spoke.

Zoey stood in front of me and said, “Caleb, it’s best you leave and forget about Elena.” She warmed.

“And what is I don’t?” He asked, and he walked up to Zoey, pointing to her. “You should stay out of this, or you both will face the consequences,” he threatened.

“What consequences?” A voice came from behind. It was deep and familiar.

I quickly turned back to see who it was, and it was Nicklaus. “You should leave them alone. I never want to see you close to my wife again, and you will rot in jail,” Nicklaus warned. I could feel the anger in his eyes, and his fists were tightened at his sides.

“How can you settle down with a cheat?” Caleb spat.

Nicklaus rushed up to him and held him tight on the neck. “I said enough. You don’t want to see the other part of me.” He spoke, his voice rising.

“And one more thing. I am the guy she cheated on you with, so deal with your loss.” Nicklaus spoke and let go of his neck.

Immediately, Caleb stepped aside. “This isn’t over,” he said.

“Get out of here right now before I lose my temper on you,” Nicklaus warmed, and immediately Caleb walked away.

Nicklaus ran to me and said, "My love, are you alright? I hope he didn’t hurt you.” He asked as he scanned my body.

I shook my head. “No, he didn’t,” I said. He turned to Zoey and said, “I hope you are not hurt, Zoey?” He asked.

She shook her head and said, "No, he wouldn’t dare.” She spoke.

“Thank you for taking care of her,” Nicklaus said, leading us to his car while the driver followed us from behind.

We arrived at the house after a few minutes, and Nicklaus parked in front of the building. He turned to me.

“The doctor will come and check on you tomorrow morning. I want to be sure that you are not hurt.” He spoke.

“But.” I tried to speak, but he cut me off.

“I insist. Please don’t oppose,” he said.

I nodded my head and said, "Okay.”

We walked into the building. The chefs were already serving dinner, and the nice aroma of the meal made me hungry again.

“Great timing. I am hungry again.” I spoke.

We all went to the dining room and had a wonderful dinner while chatting and giggling. I had a great time with Zoey. She had been like the sister that I never had, and I felt grateful for her presence.

After dinner, Zoey stood up to leave. “I have to go now; I really had a great time today,” she said.

“I wish you could spend a night,” I said.

Zoey shook her head and said, "My flight to the country side is at 6 in the morning, and I can’t miss it. My family is expecting me.” She spoke.

I nodded my head and hugged her tightly. “I will miss you. We should do more of this when you are less busy.” I spoke and walked her to the door.

Nicklaus had ordered his driver to drop Zoey off at her aunt’s house, and she left.

We both retired to our rooms. Nicklaus and I had a hot bath, and I was already feeling sleepy. He cleaned me up and changed me into my pyjamas.

“My love. With what happened today, I have assigned a bodyguard to you,” Nicklaus announced.

I looked at him, and my jaw dropped. He looked at me and shook his head. “Do not object,” he said, kissing me on the forehead.

We lay in bed and cuddled each other to sleep.
