Chapter 38

Elena’s POV:

I woke up early in the morning and carefully stirred in the bed. I noticed that the bed was empty, so I opened my eyes. I remembered that I had fallen asleep in Nicklaus's arms, and he wasn't in bed.

I slowly got out of bed and walked into the bathroom, hoping to find him in there since it was still too early to go to work.

I swung the door open and scanned the room, but Nicklaus was nowhere in the room.

“Nicklaus?” I called out while walking out of the bathroom.

I walked out of the bedroom and headed downstairs. I could perceive the nice aroma of an omelette and bacon. My stomach growled, but I ignored the hunger and searched for Nicklaus.

I walked into the kitchen to see a completely different person in the kitchen; it was Nicklaus. He was dressed in his vest and shorts, which revealed his muscles. He wears an apron.

I narrowed my eyes and moved closer. “Nicklaus? I called.

He turned around and looked at me with a wide grin on his face, and his eyes sparked. “Good morning, my love. I hope you had a wonderful night's rest,” he asked.

“You cook?” I asked, looking surprised.

“Yes, I do. Now respond to me. Did you sleep well? How is my little one doing?” He asked and walked to me with his hands on my baby bump.

I nodded my head and sat on the kitchen counter. “Yes, I did. Little Nicklaus is doing just fine.” I said, “Now tell me, where did you learn how to cook?”

Nicklaus walked back to the stock and started frying the pancakes. “You may not believe me, but cooking has always been a thing. I have always loved to cook,” he said.

“But I have never seen you cook,” I said. I looked at him curiously.

“That's because I am always busy with work,” he said.

I chuckled. “Who would have thought that a handsome and wealthy billionaire loves to cook? I am impressed,” I said.

“Do you know I wanted to be a chef instead of a businessman?” he asked.

I became very surprised. “Wow, really?”

“Yes,” he said.

“Why didn't you pursue your dreams?” I asked.

Nicklaus's face turned serious, and he walked, but to me, “My mother taught me how to cook, and I was eager to pursue my dream of being a chef, but when my mother left us many years ago, the dream died. She abandoned me and my father, and I also abandoned my dreams,” he confessed, his facial expression changing.

“I am so sorry about that,” I said.

“It's fine,” he chuckled lightly. “At least I am a billionaire, and I can do whatever I want to do now," he said.

I nodded my head. “That's right.” Now I know why he never spoke of his mother. I didn't even bother to ask him because I knew that it would be a sad story just like mine.

“So tell me about yourself, Mother, because I know that Mrs. Williams is your stepmother,” he asked.

My facial expression turned serious, and I exhaled.

“It's fine if you don't want to talk about it, Elena,” he said.

“No, let me say it,” I said.

“Well, I do not know who my mother is. I was abandoned as a baby, and my father took me in with my stepmother and father a few months after they gave birth to Sarah. I have never known what it was like to have a mother figure in my life,” I spoke.

“I wish she didn't abandon me,” I said.

Nicklaus hugged me and kissed me on the forehead. “I am here for you, and I will give you all the care that you need, and I know that you will also be a great mother to our little one,” he said, placing his hand in my stomach.

He kissed me on the lips and pulled away. “My food is burning,” he said, and hurried to the stove.

“Chef Nicklaus had just burned his pancake,” I joked, and we both giggled.
