Elena’s POV

I stared at Phila, my eyes searching for any sign of deception. But her expression remained serious, her eyes filled with concern.

"I don't believe you," I said, my voice firm. "Jack would never do that."

Phila sighed, pulling out her phone. "I have all the evidence right here. Financial records, witness statements...it's all here."

I hesitated, my mind racing with doubts. But I had to know the truth. I took Phila's phone, scrolling through the evidence. My heart sank with each new revelation.

I felt like I was in a daze, my mind numb. I dialed Jack's number, my hands shaking.

"Hey, Elena! I'm out of town for a while. What's up?" Jack's voice was cheerful, oblivious to the storm brewing inside me.

I couldn't speak. I just stood there, frozen in shock.

"Jack...where are you?" I finally managed to stammer.

"I'm out of town, like I said. Why?"

I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. He was lying. Right to my face.
