2025-04-21 23:35:54Levi gripped the wheel tighter than he should, and after he had whipped the corner of her mouth, they sat in uncomfortable silence until their ice cream began to drip. She mentioned that they had to get back home; unable to enjoy the food they had gotten, they silently walked back to the car and now they were on their way home. Levi thought he was already breaking through the insane brick wall she had built up between them but now he was sure that with his action there was no way she was not fortifying the wall to be stronger now.
As soon as the car stopped in front of the house, she hopped down and walked in as if she were trying to run away without making it too obvious to the other party. Levi came down but before he could make it to the other side of the car, she was long gone from sight.
"Well, good night," he called but he knew that there was no way she could hear him. He walked into the house and got a bottle of water before returning to his room.
Lila wanted the incessant buzzing of her phone to stop. She thought that if she ignored it then it would stop but somehow someone who knew her close enough was comfortable with calling her first when she was supposed to be on her honeymoon. The buzzing stopped and she was about to turn in bed when I started again. She knew that it had to be urgent for them to call him that much so she struggled to sit up in bed and stare at her phone screen until her brain made sense of what it was seeing.
MADAM ELEANOR CARRINGTON flashed across the screen, her nose scrunched up as she wondered why her mom was calling her so early when the sun was even barely out. She cleared her throat and spoke to herself to ensure she did not sound weird. She slid her hand across the screen and pushed the phone to her ear.
"Hello, mom?"
"Were you sleeping?" Her mom's voice was sharp and she knew that her mom was mad about something but as she tried to rack her brain, everything drew up blank; she could not pinpoint the reason her mom would call her first thing in the morning and be that angry.
"Yes, I was."
"You were sleeping? You were sleeping after creating such a mess?"
"A mess?" Lila repeated. One word from her mother and she could read her emotions what she could not tell was why her mother was showing all of those emotions to her. She had not even bothered to check up on her; all she got were these claims of something she did not do.
"Yes, a very big mess. Who is supposed to clean this up? Am I the one? Or is the Beaumont family going to take care of this one? Are you willing to send your father to an early grave because of your insubordination?" Eleanor was going on and on but still was not making sense to Lila.
"Mom, could you please explain what you mean to me so I can understand?" she said and she drew a sharp breath. Lila knew what that meant and she knew not to ask any more questions, even though she had a thousand of them waiting to be asked.
"Check your phone," she stared at her and the line beeped dead. Lila wanted to throw the phone down and ignore her mom but she knew that her mom was not one to make a fuss out of anything. If she was sounding that way, then there must be something wrong; she could not just place what could be wrong.
She picked up her phone and surely enough there was something and of course, it was something to be worried about. She jumped out of bed and held her chest in annoyance. "He said it was going to be okay; he said it was going to be safe." Her voice panicked as she looked at the image of Levi's mask and glasses off his face and his hand reaching to a mysterious woman who happened to be her. The headline WAS THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN THE BEAUMONT AND CARRINGTON A SCAM? IS THE BEAUMONT HEIR SEEING ANOTHER WOMAN?
Her back was to the camera so it was impossible for them to know she was the one; she scrolled to the comments and surely they were already being chewed out by the public. People were talking about how much they felt betrayed to be deceived by two of the most wealthy names in the country. The matter did not directly affect them but they seemed to be more concerned about what happened to their lives than about their business. She looked at the image and wondered what was going on in both their homes.
"This is all his fault," she said as she took up her robe and threw it on herself. She had to go confront; he had to do something about this and he had to act fast.

Lila was knocking loudly and was not planning on stopping until the door opened and she could talk to Levi.
