Lila had gotten to know that the island was hosting a party and since she had nothing else to do, she decided to go to the party. As usual, Levi was gone all day so she sent him a message informing him about the party before she went dress shopping. She knew her mother would approve of them going to the party so she made plans to do so.
She and Jasmine spent a bit of time shopping for dresses before getting their hair, nails, and makeup done. By the time they were all done with it all, it was already close to the time for the party. Lila checked her phone for the hundredth time in a second; Levi had not replied to the message she sent and he was nowhere to be seen. Knowing that this was an opportunity for them to get their names out there, she was sure he would not miss it so she left a note for him in the room telling him to meet her there as she would be waiting.
By the time she got to the party venue, she realised it was a much larger party than she had thought. There were tons of reporters outside and even a red carpet for them to go through before they got in.
"What are you wearing tonight?"
"Where is your husband?"
"What does it feel like to be married to one of the most eligible bachelors?"
The reporters threw the questions at her as they flashed their cameras at her. She answered their questions, trying her best not to cause a rumour as she did. She moved into the hall and began to walk around, hoping to find Jasmine soon. They had agreed to meet inside and knowing how antisocial her friend was, she knew that she had probably come in through the back door and she wished she had done that to avoid the conversation with the paparazzi, especially talking about Levi; they were asking questions she did not have the answers to.
"Finally found you," Lila said when she saw her friend at the snack table munching on some macaroons.
"You should have looked here first," Jasmine replied with a full mouth and then a toothy smile. "You are here alone," she said as if she were making an observation. She chewed and swallowed before turning to the hall, her eyes surveying the entire hall. "Did you come alone?" she asked and for some reason, it felt like someone had rubbed salt into her injury.
Lila pulled a smile and nodded. "I guess he would meet me here; I waited for him but he did not show up," she explained.
"I think you should have waited to show up with him; I don't know what kind of narrative the media might push," she explained and Lila agreed.
"I wanted to get out of the room; I feel like I am on vacation but I am stuck in the room," she muttered and Jsmine agreed. She had thought that for a couple playing in love, they would have had more dates than what they had now. "I understand that you both aren't that many fans of each other but still, if I were a reporter, I would be suspicious of you. You are in love and yet you do nothing all day."
"Should I do all things by myself all day? Levi is gone most of the time and since I do not want to be seen in public alone, I decide to stay indoors." She wondered how it was that he was carrying himself all around the island and still nobody had been able to capture him with that woman. It made her wonder where they were constantly meeting.
They spent the rest of the night talking and eating everything they could lay their hands on.
“I might burst soon," Jasmine said with a groan as she pushed down something that looked like a cracker but tasted like shrimp. “I have to say, they have such exotic meals here"
Lila's mind was still on Levi, and as much as she tried to act like she did not care she hoped he was fine and not passed out somewhere.
"I thought Levi was going to show up in style and stun the crowd, but it seems like I was wrong," Jasmine murmured. Lila had tried to act as if his not showing up was not having an effect on her, but how could it not? He was going to make rumours brew, and that was a disadvantage for them both."You see why I do not like him? He always does things how he pleases. I am here putting on a great show and he is nowhere to be found," she muttered angrily in response. She had been trying her best all night not to get drunk, and she feared that if she drank all of the contents in the glass in her hand, she might be dirty dancing on the dance floor to classic music again."Call him up again; maybe something happened." Lila wished something happened to him; that had to be the only explanation for why he had ghosted like this. "Maybe he got hit by a bus or is having a bad day with stomach troubles.""Sounds like you would wish that for him," Lila murmured, a smile climbing her lips as she though
As soon as she pulled away from Marcus, she excused herself and ignored Levi. He had to know that what he had done had consequences. She did not care if he was frolicking around with that woman he had met or not; he should know that he had to keep his decency and appear as the perfect husband, at least for the year they were together. She was glad that the crowd in the room helped her keep him away from her all night. She moved swiftly through the room, ensuring not to stay in a spot for a long time; that way, by the time he wanted to approach her, she was long gone from there. The party ended and she began to head back to the room. It was tiring as they had been made to stand all through the party; it was fun while it lasted, but now she needed to sleep to replenish all of the energy she had expended that night."Lila?" Levi said in a loud voice as he moved towards her. She looked awkward and wished that they were in a much more enclosed space; then she could have ignored him without
Lila sat up in bed, feeling her head throb from all of the alcohol she had consumed last night. Even though she was pretty tired from the party, she could not bring herself to sleep after the conversation with her sister so she took to filling the hole she felt with alcohol from the mini fridge in the room. She knew it was a bad idea for her to get wasted because she was going to feel the result in the morning, but she did not care. She had always known that even though her father regarded himself as a family man, he was more concerned about his business than his actual children. He saw the business opportunity in everything and decided when to turn his children into money-making machines. The worst of it all was that he did not stop at his children; he extended to the extended family, making sure to put everyone in the right place for not doing what he wanted from them. When her mind went to her mom, she felt even worse than she already did.To the eyes of the general public, they we
Jasmine did not know how to react, but when she saw that her friend was truly not moved, she decided to support her. They decide to spend the day at the beach after all; they both had nothing going on with them and they could lie around for the entire day. Lila changed into a sundress that barely stopped mid-thigh. They were to go to Jasmine's room so she could change, and they could go to the beach afterwards. As they opened the door, Levi was standing there with his card in hand, ready to open the door. Jasmine looked from Lila to Levi and cleared her throat before stepping out of the room. "Lila, I will meet you at the beach," she said before walimh wawya. She could tell that they both needed space to talk about whatever they had between them."Can we talk?" Levi asked as he stepped into the room."What else do we have to talk about? We already spoke," Lila said, her tone distant and cold."I want to explain to you why I was absent yesterday," he began, but she cut him off with a c
Lila gets to the private beach house but is stunned by the scene she meets. There is an arrangement of rose petals into the words 'I'M SORRY'. She is quite impressed and also shocked that Levi was capable of pulling something like that just to apologise. When she had decided to come there, she was not sure what to expect. However, standing there with Levi on the other side of the petal, arranging words, she felt her anger melt away. It was kind of cute and thoughtful for him to think of apologising in this way. She followed him with her eyes as he walked to her with a bouquet of yellow roses. He stood in front of her and pointed the bouquet at her. She did not know what to do or how to react, but she had never thought of turning down pretty flowers so she took them from him."Lila Carrington, I want to apologise," he began. She decided to finally listen to whatever excuse he had to bring up. She nodded, expecting more from him. "The truth is that though I am not in the country, I have
"Since we are friends and we are going all out, I think it would be nice for us to do some of the things on this list," Lila said, taking out a folded paper from her wallet and handing it over to him."What is this?""A list created by my cousins and sisters for my honeymoon," she replied. She knew that her sisters and cousins had created a teasing prank for her, but since they needed activities to keep busy and they wanted to look like a real coup, what other things would they need other than something like that?"Oh, I see, and you want us to do the things on this list?" he asked, and she nodded."We can have fun while still portraying the in-love couple for the media," she replied. He did not see anything wrong with her suggestion, so he agreed."I think the first thing for the day should be breakfast.""I agree," she said, and they decided to go down for breakfast. Of course, with all of the paparazzi moving about, they would get photographed. Instead of staying at the hotel for b
Lila felt weird being in Levi's hadn for so long but she knew girls like that and that they were not going to leave until she acted. They woudl think that Levi was clinging to this woman and if they showed him that they liked him better then he might decide to come to them instead."Why are you doing this in public?" she asked throwing him a knowing look. She was flirting with him and she hoped that he woudl return the favour because in her head this was all to help him out."You know I can barely keep my hands off you even for a minute", Levi replied, and she had to admit he was quite an actor. With the way he spoke, she was almost convinced that it was real and they were not both acting it out. She looked at the girls, and they had a horrified expression on their faces; it was obvious they did not like the sight before them. She was expecting them to go, but it seemed like they wanted to see more, so she jumped back into character."You always say that and you know that people are w
A woman came to address all of the couples who had shown up. After speaking at length, she asked them all to come back the next day, as that was when the competition was going to begin. After that, she disappeared, and the room began to clear out. Weaving through the crowd, both of them found their way out of the place."I can not believe that I am doing something like this," Levi said as they walked to the elevator."We already wrote down our name and attended the first meeting. I don't think there is any need to not believe it anymore," Lila responded. She also could not believe that she had willingly tried to put herself in the eye of the public but all she could think of was the prize attached to this. Her phone began ringing in her hand, and somehow she feared it was her mom. She looked at the screen and felt a burning, bitter sensation rise up her stomach as she stared at it. It was her mom, and she never once had a good conversation with her mom over the phone. It was always so
"And you..." Lila trailed off in response as she was expecting him to say something."Wait, what?""You were speaking, and then you trailed off. It felt like you wanted to say something and changed your mind midway," she said."I don't know what to make of this," he replied with a frown."Make of what?""You and this conversation, it's frustrating with you.""Frustrated with me?" She scoffed and crossed her hand over her chest. "What on earth is that supposed to mean?" Levi looked at her, and her face was screaming a demand for an apology. "Well, explain?" she said when he stayed quiet, rubbing his lips together."One moment you are cold as ice, and the other moment you are very hot. So hot it is kind of scary," he replied."I don't get it." She was not usually slow, but his words strung together were not making any sense to her at all. She was hot and cold? "Are you writing a poem?" she asked. If this were any other situation, she might have laughed in his face that he was saying a b
Lila went back to the room and bade her father farewell before she left for the manor. She wondered how her life with Levi and her family was going to be. Her mother had to stay with her dad in the hospital, and her sisters were in their own homes, which left her alone in the house with nothing to do. She knew that her mother would frown on her having her cousins or friends over, so she was left to her thoughts all by herself. Since the honeymoon period was still extended, they could not go back to work just yet.By the time she got into the room that night, Levi had chosen a side of the bed and was already sound asleep. She did not want to bother him, so she silently got changed and slipped into bed. She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow, and her eyes only came open by the next morning.Levi had told her that he was a morning bird, and she was not surprised that he was not in bed when she woke up. She did her morning routine and went down to get something to eat. The sta
Lila left the room after a while. She was feeling overwhelmed and seeing her father like that was not great for her either. She took a stroll, finding the coffee shop in the hospital She was grateful for it as she felt tired and needed something to keep her awake. She ordered some black coffee and sat down to sip on the coffee while watching the doctors and patients walk around the place. She had been still for a long time, just occasionally filling her mouth with the warm, bitter liquid. After a while, she felt someone sit beside her, and she could tell it was a familiar presence. She looked, and it was her mom sitting close to her. She mentally prepared herself for whatever it was that her mouth was about to say. "Are you okay?" Eleanor asked, Lila slowed and turned her head to her with a confused expression. There was no doubt that her mom loved her, but the way she acted every time was something she could not wrap her mind around. "Yes, Mom," she replied. She had to admit that
As Lila showed Levi around the house, she could not help but get this chilly feeling from him. She wanted to ask him questions, but she was not sure what kind would be appropriate for him, so she kept them all to herself. After they had identified the room they would have to stay in, she turned to him."Are you sure this would be okay? We can tell my mom that this won't work and go back to the house, where we would have separate rooms.""It's fine," he said as if they were in an argument."I might be wrong, but I get a feeling that you are mad at me. Did I do something wrong?" She asked, trying to cast her mind back to when she started feeling the coldness from him, but nothing stood out to her."Nothing," he said like a child who was sulking about being denied some candy. Suddenly, it clicked in her mind that he was probably missing Fiona after all; they had to leave so quickly that they had no chance to say goodbyes. Knowing that was why he was all moody was hurtful to her, but she
"It's impossible," Lila shook her head; it made no sense for her mom to ask her to move in with them. She was planning on keeping all the distance with her parents until the one year elapsed. Her plan was simple, and now her mom had somehow found out the plan and was ready to ruin it."That's what I said, but the bags," Elizabeth said as their eyes followed the staff carrying them in. Lila knew that asking them to stop was pointless; if she wanted to change anything, she needed to speak to her mom first, and then they could take the bags back to the car for her. "What are you going to do about it?" Elizabeth asked because she knew how difficult it was to resist their mom; she was persuasive and could get you to do anything she wanted to."Don't worry," Lila said, shaking her head. She did not have a plan, but she was sure that there was no way they would end up staying there. There was enough room to house about three families comfortably, but still she could not bring herself to thin
Although Eleanor had given Lila and Levi a week more to stay, she called them to hurry back. A private jet was sent to bring them back to the city. Lila wondered what could be wrong and the reason why they had to hurry back. She felt a bad feeling in her gut, but knowing that her mom was a straightforward person and would tell her if something was wrong immediately, she knew that her mom probably changed her mind after sleeping on it all night.Levi had agreed to leave the island as well without asking any questions. Lila could not understand why he acted that way. If she were the one on the receiving end, she would have asked a ton of questions that might send the other party into frustration. He packed up his bags and was ready to leave for the airport before she could do the same. They left the hotel and headed to the airport for the plane ride. Levi was quiet, and Lila could not understand it because they had agreed to be friends, but he seemed cold to her. Maybe she had misunders
Although Levi had told her to rest up, she could not bring her mind to do that; she needed to know what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. She also wanted to know how her father was, but she knew that calling him or her mother was pointless as Eleanor would refuse to tell her anything. She knew that her sisters were the only way to go and since Elizabeth was more mature, she was the one she decided to call first. Elizabeth did not pick up so she tried to call Victoria and it was the same case. She concluded that they were probably in the hospital and they did not want to pick it up in front of their parents. She kept on thinking of how she had ruined her father’s dream of getting Skyline just because she wanted to feel comfortable. Her father’s words rang in her mind as she paced in front of the bed. ‘You can sacrifice a little comfort for great gain,’ he always said to her, and she could see that it was true. She should have never been considered enough to turn down
As soon as Lila walked into the room, Levi could tell that she was not the same woman he had left behind. Something must have happened. She looked sad and angry at the same time. She did not acknowledge his presence; instead, she moved to one of the couches and sat silently. Levi wanted to ask her what was troubling her, but he was not sure if she would appreciate the efforts or even tell him what was wrong. He waited a few minutes for her to come forward by herself to tell him what was wrong but nothing happened, leaving of her to speak She sat still, looking ahead. "Lila?" he called because the silence was killing him. They had just resolved their differences and agreed to be friends, and that meant they could rely on each other. She slowly turned to him with her eyes sad and wet. He moved closer to her and bent so they were on the same level. "Are you okay?" he asked. She opened her mouth to respond to his question, but the words never got out of her mouth, and tears flowed down
