2025-04-23 22:48:16Lila sat up in bed, feeling her head throb from all of the alcohol she had consumed last night. Even though she was pretty tired from the party, she could not bring herself to sleep after the conversation with her sister so she took to filling the hole she felt with alcohol from the mini fridge in the room.
She knew it was a bad idea for her to get wasted because she was going to feel the result in the morning, but she did not care. She had always known that even though her father regarded himself as a family man, he was more concerned about his business than his actual children. He saw the business opportunity in everything and decided when to turn his children into money-making machines.
The worst of it all was that he did not stop at his children; he extended to the extended family, making sure to put everyone in the right place for not doing what he wanted from them. When her mind went to her mom, she felt even worse than she already did.
To the eyes of the general public, they were the perfect family with the father, who always spoke about his family and how much he would do everything for them and the mother, who was perfect in all she did when she stood beside him. Eleanor never questioned William and his tactics; all she did was support him.
She went to the mini fridge and took out a bottle of water, chugging the entire thing down. She could not believe she had gotten drunk twice already in the space of a few days. She looked around the room and that was when she noticed that Levi was not in the room. She felt a bit disappointed that even after the conversation they had yesterday, he didn't bother to get back to the room.
"He must be with his girlfriend anyway," she murmured to herself. It made sense for him to want to spend his time with that woman rather than her. They had history together, and they seemed comfortable around each other. He must have been walking on eggshells around her for no reason.
She took a shower to calm the headache she felt before ordering room service. She did not want to be caught outside alone since Levi was not there. She had already raised suspicion yesterday by dancing with the strange man; it would be bad if she showed up alone again. She got a full breakfast from the hotel kitchen; after all, if Daniel Beaumont was paying, then she should go all the way out with her spending.
She was in the middle of having a quiet breakfast when she was interrupted by a loud banging on the door. She knew very well that it was not her mom because she had left the island already, and if it were Levi, he would come in by himself. She concluded that it had to be Jasmine so she went to open the door for her.
"Hi Jas," she said when the door flung open and her predictions were right.
"Judging by how calm you look, I guess you are yet to see it," Jasmine said as she pushed herself through the door, carrying a bunch of morning papers in her hand.
"What are you talking about?" Lila asked, closing the door and following her friend.
Jasmien sat on the floor and began to spread the headlines, pointing out the headlines that were calling Lila a cheat and the picture of her slow dancing with the stranger she met.
"I expected this, but it is a little too quiet," she said, going to her phone to check if it was switched off. Surprisingly, it was on and not on silent. "My mom hasn't called me?" she asked herself in shock. Eleanor should have called her by now and begun to blast her ears with questions and accusations of bringing shame to the family.
"Is that important?" You are being branded a cheat."
"Like I care," Lila said in a dismissive tone, causing Jasmine to jump to her knee and walk to her.
"Like you care? You are on this trip because you care about your family and the image, and all of a sudden you do not care again."
"Well, I mean, I have been doing a lot but the media wants to continue to spin a wrong narrative of me. What else can I do about it?" She asked, shrugging as she sat back down with her breakfast, pushing the pieces of sausage she had cut into her mouth. Jamsine stood shocked at her reaction; she had never seen Lila so laid back like this before. She would have been all over the place trying to get the picture down.
"Breakfast?" Lila asked, waving the fork in her face.
"No, I'm good," Jasmine replied with shock.
"Well, suit yourself then."
