Although Eleanor had given Lila and Levi a week more to stay, she called them to hurry back. A private jet was sent to bring them back to the city. Lila wondered what could be wrong and the reason why they had to hurry back. She felt a bad feeling in her gut, but knowing that her mom was a straightforward person and would tell her if something was wrong immediately, she knew that her mom probably changed her mind after sleeping on it all night.

Levi had agreed to leave the island as well without asking any questions. Lila could not understand why he acted that way. If she were the one on the receiving end, she would have asked a ton of questions that might send the other party into frustration. He packed up his bags and was ready to leave for the airport before she could do the same.

They left the hotel and headed to the airport for the plane ride. Levi was quiet, and Lila could not understand it because they had agreed to be friends, but he seemed cold to her. Maybe she had misunderstood what he meant when he talked about them being friends. She thought about the couple's contest and how she was going to once again forego something she really wanted for her family.

The trip back was quiet, and she slept throughout the journey. One of her mom's assistants and a couple of bodyguards were already waiting at the airport for them. Without thinking too much about it, they followed the middle-aged woman. The car took them from the airport straight to her parents' mansion. She wondered if her father had returned home and what the reason was for bringing her there.

She did not know whom she had to ask about the situation, and her face lit up when she saw her sister standing at the entrance. "Hi Levi, welcome back. How was the trip"? Elizabeth asked",

Levi passed by her with a small murmur and walked into the house without stopping. Lila, on the other hand, ran to her sister and hugged her tightly with her head buried in her neck. Elizabeth gently rubbed her back, and after a while, they pulled away from each other. "What's wrong with him?" she asked, pointing to Levi, who had passed them earlier. Lila shrugged as she was still unable to figure out why he had been so cold to her. Even when they were enemies, he was still supposed to be that ray of sunshine to everyone else.

"You look skinny; were you not eating?" Elizabeth asked as she inspected her sister.

"How can I gain any weight after all I have been through?" Lila asked with a frown. "How is Dad? Have you seen him?" she asked, and her sister's face made her know that the situation was probably worse than they put it to her.

"He is getting better; the doctor says that he needs to rest for a while and not get any news that would upset him further." Lila knew her sister did not mean to say anything mean to her, but she could still hear the hidden jab at her. She was supposed to try her best not to do anything that could cause distress to her father.

She wondered what her sister was doing there during the day. If it were a Sunday, then it would not be entirely weird to find her there, but on a weekday? "What are you..." she trailed off as she heard a sound from behind, and she looked back to see the house staff unloading her bags from the car. "Wait," she began, but was held back by her sister.

"Don't bother."

"They are unloading the car; we are here to see Mom, and after that we will be retiring to our home," saying our home did not feel right, but that was what it was. A place where they both lived together.

"Mom asked them to unload the bags," Elizabeth replied.

"Well, why?" Lila asked with confusion. She was trying to make sense of the situation, but nothing was coming to mind.

"I think Mom is trying her best to be in control of your life."

"Of my life?" Lila wished her sister would just get straight to the point. "Explain it to me like I am five because I have no idea what it is that you are trying to drive at."

Elizabeth cleared her throat and shook her head at her sister. "Mom thinks that if she does not watch you, then you might get yourself into more trouble and drag the family name through the mud. She asked me what I thought, and I told her that it was a bad idea.

"What is a bad idea? Mom is already watching me carefully like a hawk. It's not like she can ask me to move in here and stay here so she can have her eyes on me twenty-four hours a day," she said, and the expression that followed on her sister's face was the answer she needed.

"It's impossible," she murmured as she shook her head.

"Victoria and I tried talking her out of it, but you know the way Mom is; once her mind is set on something, she was going to go through it all to achieve it, no matter what anyone thinks."

"She wants me to move in here with her."

As Lila showed Levi around the house, she could not help but get this chilly feeling from him. She wanted to ask him questions, but she was not sure what kind would be appropriate for him, so she kept them all to herself. After they had identified the room they would have to stay in, she turned to him."Are you sure this would be okay? We can tell my mom that this won't work and go back to the house, where we would have separate rooms.""It's fine," he said as if they were in an argument."I might be wrong, but I get a feeling that you are mad at me. Did I do something wrong?" She asked, trying to cast her mind back to when she started feeling the coldness from him, but nothing stood out to her."Nothing," he said like a child who was sulking about being denied some candy. Suddenly, it clicked in her mind that he was probably missing Fiona after all; they had to leave so quickly that they had no chance to say goodbyes. Knowing that was why he was all moody was hurtful to her, but she

PLACE: CARRINGTON'S MANSIONTIME: SUNDAY 6:45 PM"Everyone, listen up," William said from the head of the table, tapping the edge slightly to catch the attention of everyone. Williams was a family man, and for that reason, he had the entire family back at his mansion every Sunday for dinner to get away. That way, they could discuss and gloss over the events of the week and give each other updates. After dinner every night, the men got together and watched a sport regardless of what was airing at that time. They all seemed to enjoy the time together. The older women would go out to the balcony and have tea while talking; they called it talking, but everyone knew very well that it was gossip. The younger girls would cluster in Lila's room and try to really catch up on what had been going on. Everyone raises their head to William at the head of the table. He dropped his spoon to his plate and propped his elbow on the table so he could intertwine his fingers. Seeing his posture, everyon

LOCATION: BEAUMONT MANSION TIME: SUNDAY 8 PM"You are asking me Levi Beaumont to get married to Lila Carrington?" Levi asked for the tenth time in just a few minutes. He was standing in his dad's home office. Daniel was sitting behind a huge wooden table, and Levi was standing across from it. He had been called in by his father to give him some news. When his father asked him to come into the office after dinner, he expected anything else, but this was not on his bingo cards, and he was sure that he must have heard it all wrong. There was no way his father, Daniel Beaumont, who was the chairman of the Beaumont group, was asking him to marry a Carrington. "Dad, Beaumont's and Carrington's do not mix; they have nerve mixed for one day," Levi said before his father could say anything. Daniel took off his glasses and let them hang from his neck with the glasses rope, dangling it gently in the air. "They have never mixed for six generations." "Exactly, so I am confused as to what you

She looked around at the faces of the people she shared the table with, and she could tell that they were all telling one thing, and that was that she better sit down at once. She swallowed and sat down, facing her father. In as much as she always tried her best to obey him, she was not going to let him have his way this time around. This was not going to be in her favour in any way, and she could not just knowingly walk into it. "You would listen to me, and you would do what I say," he added. She shook her head at him. "Lila, listen to your father," Eleanor said. "But mom..." Lila whined. She could not believe how easily her mother had switched sides. She was just definitely on her side a moment ago, but all of a sudden she was telling her to bow her head and listen to her father because apparently, he was the one who had the final say. "There is no but here. I think it would

As soon as Lila walked into the room, Levi could tell that she was not the same woman he had left behind. Something must have happened. She looked sad and angry at the same time. She did not acknowledge his presence; instead, she moved to one of the couches and sat silently. Levi wanted to ask her what was troubling her, but he was not sure if she would appreciate the efforts or even tell him what was wrong. He waited a few minutes for her to come forward by herself to tell him what was wrong but nothing happened, leaving of her to speak She sat still, looking ahead. "Lila?" he called because the silence was killing him. They had just resolved their differences and agreed to be friends, and that meant they could rely on each other. A woman came to address all of the couples who had shown up. After speaking at length, she asked them all to come back the next day, as that was when the competition was going to begin. After that, she disappeared, and the room began to clear out. Weaving through the crowd, both of them found their way out of the place."I can not believe that I am doing something like this," Levi said as they walked to the elevator."We already wrote down our name and attended the first meeting. I don't think there is any need to not believe it anymore," Lila responded. She also could not believe that she had willingly tried to put herself in the eye of the public but all she could think of was the prize attached to this. Her phone began ringing in her hand, and somehow she feared it was her mom. She looked at the screen and felt a burning, bitter sensation rise up her stomach as she stared at it. It was her mom, and she never once had a good conversation with her mom over the phone. It was always so
