2025-04-23 22:40:32Lila sighed when she got her mom's call. Levi was back in the room and her mom was demanding to get dinner with both of them before she left. Lila knew that it was going to be uncomfortable for her to sit through dinner with her mom constantly throwing jabs at her in front of Levi. She knew Levi might have been going through the same with his parents but still, it was a bit embarrassing for her to show him that side of her.
"Wasn't there any other thing to wear out?" Eleanor asked immediately, and they sat. Lila rolled her eyes as she tried to control the anger she felt from knowing that her mother was going to say worse. She looked down at her dress; she had been satisfied by the clothes she picked out before she left the room but no, her mother's tone was making her doubt herself. "You are in the eye of the public constantly; why don't you stick to wearing designer brands? Do you want me to send you a personal stylist?" she asked.
If she wasn't her mother, she would have pegged her as a mean girl who tried to be nice with words as sharp as a sword. "I will take care of that myself," Lila replied instead.
Eleanor cleared her throat and looked around. "Are you both having fun here?"
'That's a trick question,' Lila almost screamed at her mother. This woman fully knew that they could not be having fun while they were forced to act like two psychos in love but she nodded instead.
"I hope you both know that both families are counting on you to make this happen. Skyline is an important project and I don't think I need to explain this to you both because you'll be at the centre of it soon," she said.
"Of course," Lila murmured, taking the bread from the pile on the table as she began to eat from it.
"Must you fill up on carbs? I know it's a vacation, but still, you have to watch your weight so you don't look too fat in the pictures." Levi heard that and he looked to Lila, who had a sad smile on her face.
She dropped the bread to the plate in front of her and took up a napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth. "You know I am only doing this because I care about you, right?"
Levi wanted to shout at this woman and tell her that she acted like someone who hated the other party; one would never see the scene before them and think that this was a good thing. He smiled anyway and focused on Eleanor.
"You don't need to worry; I am sure we can handle ourselves."
"Perfect," Eleanor said as she clapped her hand in front of her. Lila frowned as she heard that because she had expected her mother to be as rigid to Levi as she was with her. It made no sense that what Levi said was perfect for her.
"Mom?"
"If the two of you can keep up the facade of a loving couple a bit more, then this would be over quicker than you can imagine; of course, both families do not expect you to fall in love in the process because that would be..." she trailed off for lack of better words and Lila was stunned to see her mother was trying to spare his feelings, the same thing she could not do with her. "Anyways, you are the perfect couple," she finished with a smile.
"Yes, Mom," Lila said and finally their meal came. Eleanor kept reminding them of their status in society every minute and Levi wondered how she was able to live twenty-five years of her life constantly being tortured by words. He was trying to act nonchalant about the situation but he was almost at the edge of his seat.
Eleanor's phone began to ring and she picked it up, pittling it to her ears. Her face frowned and then she stood up. "I have to leave now, but I trust that for the rest of your stay here there will be no more scandals and rumours. I am hoping it goes all well."
"You are leaving already?" Lila asked, shocked at the sudden change.
"I know you do not want me to stay any longer and I have to go take care of something," she said, taking up her bag and strapping it to her hand. "I'll take care of the bill so you both should stay back and have a good dinner; maybe you might get a picture taken," she said. They both understood it was not a wish but a command. She turned on her heels and left without a word, leaving the air in the restaurant thicker with her presence even though she was leaving.

Lila had gotten to know that the island was hosting a party and since she had nothing else to do, she decided to go to the party. As usual, Levi was gone all day so she sent him a message informing him about the party before she went dress shopping.
