Chapter Nineteen

The morning light seeped through the kitchen window, spreading a warm glow across the room as Emily poured herself a cup of coffee. The events of the previous night were still vivid in her thoughts, but she was determined to start the day with a clean slate. Will had already gone to work, and Emily was looking forward to a quiet day to gather her thoughts and plan their next actions.

As she drank her coffee, she noticed a faint rumbling. The sound of the mail slot clattering rang across the corridor, heralding the arrival of the morning mail. Emily placed down her cup and went over to the front door, where a tiny pile of mail was strewn on the doorstep.

She snatched them up and flipped through the typical collection of invoices and adverts. Just as she was going to trash them, one envelope drew her attention. The envelope was basic and unmarked, with no return address or stamp. The only thing written on it was her name, handwritten in a rushed, almost frenzied style.
