Chapter Twenty-Two

Samantha stood outside Madison Middle School's small brick structure. The bell had just rang, and students flowed out in groups, smiling and conversing as they headed home. Samantha took a deep breath, bracing herself for the meeting ahead. She saw Claire Montgomery, a colleague teacher and Emily's known nemesis, approaching her vehicle.

Claire was a strong lady, with sharp features and even sharper tongue. Her animosity against Emily was well-known, motivated by professional envy and personal vendettas. Samantha realized that if she could get Claire's support, it would greatly aid her attempts to bring Emily down.

"Claire!" Samantha cried out, picking up her speed to catch up.

Claire turned, her gaze narrowing slightly as she recognized Samantha. "You're Samantha, right? "Who is Emily's friend?" Her tone was guarded, verging on unpleasant.

"Not anymore," Samantha said with a sour tone. "I need to speak with you about something essential. "It is about Emily."
