Chapter Twenty-three

Emily came into Madison Middle School the following morning with apprehension. Halfway through the morning, Emily heard a message over the intercom: "Ms. Taylor, please report to the principal's office."

Her heart fell. This cannot be good. She took a long breath to compose herself before leaving her classroom and walking down the corridor. The kids, noticing her anxiety, looked at her with curiosity.

Principal Andrews' office was located at the far end of the hallway. The door was slightly open, and Emily could see him inside, fumbling through a stack of papers. She softly knocked before walking inside.

"Ah, Emily." "Please take a seat," Principal Andrews replied, looking up from his desk with a somber face.

Emily sat down, attempting to soothe the uneasy flutter in her chest. "What's this about, Principal Andrews?"
