Chapter 11

"You're just a maid. You're asking for it, talking to me like that!" Lorraine screeched.

"She'd truly be in trouble if she were to let you in." Heather showed up. "Please stop putting the household staff in tough spots, Ms. Carlson. She's only doing her job."

"Oh, it's you, Heather." Lorraine looked condescending. "Where's Dimitri? I have to ask him why he's still going ahead with the wedding. Hasn't Zachary or whatever his name is already run away? Isn't he just embarrassing himself with this?"

"Mr. Hart did indeed run away, but we've brought him back now." Heather gestured toward Brooklyn and said, "Someone's asking about you, Mr. Hart."

Brooklyn looked at Lorraine innocently but soon realized that wasn't the right expression to have. So, he put on a contemptuous look and asked, "What do you want?"

Lorraine looked at him and came closer. Then, she asked snobbily, "Did you already run off? Why'd you come back?"

"I came back because I wanted to. What's it to you?" Brooklyn stood up straighter so he could look her in the eye.

"I suppose you're right." She sneered and said, "You'd better stay away from Dimitri. I'm his destined partner, and you—"

"But you're so contemptuous of him!" Brooklyn cut her off, feeling angry. "You don't even like him, do you?"

"I—" Lorraine couldn't say anything. She did like Dimitri, didn't she?

"I do like him," she said, sounding unsure. "You're the one who doesn't like him. I can't believe you had the gall to come back after running away."

"I came back because I have feelings for him," Brooklyn said loudly. "Why would I come back if not for that? I'm not his destined partner, so I must've come back because I like Dimitri as a person!"

Lorraine backed away, feeling a little scared by his dominance. "But I'm his destined partner; he'll be the most affected when I'm in heat. He and I are a perfect match, and you—"

"But you won't marry me."

"Mr. Wood, you're back." Heather hurried over to help Dimitri get up from his wheelchair. "Ms. Carlson was looking for you."

Lorraine became a lot less arrogant with Dimitri around. She abruptly stopped talking and stared at Dimitri silently.

"Please stop putting my lover in a tough spot, Ms. Carlson." Dimitri slowly approached Brooklyn. "Come here, Zachary."

Brooklyn hurriedly sidestepped Lorraine to jog over to Dimitri. He held the latter up obediently and said, "Maybe you should sit. It's not good for your leg to keep standing."

"Standing when speaking to a visitor is basic manners. Besides, I have you holding me up." Dimitri rubbed his head gently and turned to Lorraine. "What did you want to say to me, Ms. Carlson?"

"Nothing much, really. I just wanted to tell you that there's no chance of us being together if you marry him." Lorraine still looked arrogant. It was as if he was nothing in her eyes.

"Since you've made that clear, I don't think there's any need for any chances of anything happening between us," Dimitri said with a smile. In the next second, his expression turned icy. "I've never liked you, Ms. Carlson. You might be my destined partner, but I've never had feelings for you. I dislike you, even."

Lorraine's expression turned hideous. She was about to say something when Dimitri continued, "See Ms. Carlson out, Heather."

Heather walked over, gesturing for Lorraine to leave. This pissed the latter off. She pointed at Dimitri and snapped, "Think this through, Dimitri. Are you really going to choose this low-ranked Omega?"

"Watch your tongue. What's so bad about low-ranked Omegas?" Brooklyn glared at her. "And so what if I'm a low-ranked Omega? What's it to you?"

It was nothing to her, but he had taken her destined partner away. She snarled, "Shut up, you. You're the only one who doesn't have any right to speak here!"

She turned back to Dimitri. "We're each other's destined partners, which means that when we go into heat or rut—"

"That's why I won't give you the chance to affect me anymore," Dimitri said coldly. "You can get together with any other Alpha when you're in heat."

"What an interesting concept." Lorraine sneered. She didn't believe for a second that he could control himself. Having a destined partner was something that lasted for a lifetime. One couldn't move away from that so easily.

"Interesting or not, it's time for you to leave. Heather, let's not waste any more time here." Dimitri smiled. "See our guest out."

Heather nodded, starting to push Lorraine out. The latter resented this and looked at Brooklyn, who was tucked in Dimitri's embrace.

No matter how much she didn't like Dimitri, she wouldn't allow him to be with someone like Zachary. It would just reflect badly on her since he was her destined partner.

She started releasing her pheromones, wanting to make Dimitri go into a rut. When he smelled them, he immediately frowned. "What are you doing? Do you know what a stupid thing you're doing right now?"

"Of course." Lorraine smirked. "You said you wouldn't be affected by me, right? Don't you want to come closer right now? Don't you want to touch me?"

As if her words weren't enticing enough, she started stripping. She took her jacket off, revealing the light-colored camisole underneath. Then, she said softly, "Dim…"

Brooklyn couldn't sense anything—he was a low-ranked Omega, after all. The same couldn't be said for Dimitri, though.

His body temperature rose as he looked at Brooklyn without saying anything. Feeling worried, Brooklyn asked softly, "Should we return to the room first?"

"Yeah." Dimitri leaned against him and said, "We'll be in the room, Heather. I'll leave this to you."

Heather had a hand over her nose and mouth as she nodded. If she had to be honest, she didn't like dealing with these things. Getting involved would only cause trouble for herself.

"Are you going to your room to fuck him?" Lorraine panicked, wanting to reach for Dimitri's arm. However, Dimitri avoided her like the plague.

Just then, Heather grabbed Lorraine and said, "You should leave for now, Ms. Carlson. Please don't keep Mr. Wood and Mr. Hart from resting."

"What do you mean by that? You're just a lowly sec—" Lorraine wanted to scream, but that was as far as she got before Heather oppressed her with her pheromones.

Heather didn't want to have to resort to using pheromones, but it looked like she had no choice. She was a top-ranked Alpha, and her pheromones made Lorraine collapse to the floor. She smiled and said, "It's time to go, Ms. Carlson."
