Chapter 34

Brooklyn felt empty inside as he watched everyone leave. He wondered whether Dimitri was avoiding him. Wasn't he part of the wedding party? Why couldn't he be around to listen to the details? He couldn't understand it.

He slowly headed up to the bedroom. It was much better than his old place—the bed was comfortable, and there was so much space. There was also plenty of hot water, but he felt so cold and empty.

Brooklyn wondered when Dimitri would be back as he showered. He didn't want to sleep alone in the huge bed. He clutched the sheets tightly and rolled around in bed. He shut his eyes, eventually drifting off to sleep.

He started dreaming again. This time, he dreamed of his 17-year-old self.

"You guys will be sitting for your SATs soon, and you're going to be seniors in high school in a week's time. You'll be under all sorts of pressure, so prepare yourself for that." The teacher's voice reverberated around the room as she wrote on the blackboard.
