Chapter 2

Sarah’s POV

My whole body felt like it was throbbing with pain, the skin on my body was throbbing so much that even the slightest movement was excruciating. Am I still alive? Am I still not dead?

"Uh...." I let out a small moan, my whole body throbbing with pain. Even small movements made me feel tortured because of the pain. Not finished with the pain I was feeling, I heard a voice that made me open my eyes and look.

"Are you awake?" I moved my head with difficulty to the side, I looked at him sharply, with a sense of indignation in my chest. I knew who that man was, but why was he here?

Ethan seemed to be sitting casually in front of her, staring at me with his predatory eyes. I was uncomfortable with the way he was looking at me, his gaze seemed to be watching my every move.

I didn't like this, seeing it made me realize that I wasn't dead yet. I was still alive remembering this pain and seeing Ethan here.

"What are you doing in this place?" Why was he in front of me? I looked down at myself, then found a bandage had been wrapped around my wound.

Ethan - Alex's uncle - sat up and approached me. "You're lucky that I saved you." He replied casually, then tried to touch my hand but I quickly pulled my arm away from him.

I saw Ethan looking at me with his flat face. "Did Alex tell you to do that?" I looked at him reluctantly, without realizing my tone of voice was rising at him. "You should have just let me die!" I exclaimed in frustration.

Ethan didn't answer he just looked at me closely, then pulled my hand forcefully and made me whimper instantly because of the pain that appeared. "Why do you want to die? What do you get if you die? Will you be happy after dying like that?" he said all that casually, while unwrapping the bandage on my arm and cleaning the wound on my elbow. "You won't be happy with that kind of death."

You know what!

I really wanted to answer him that, but what he said was true. I will just die in vain, while those who treated me badly will continue to live their lives as if nothing happened in their lives.

I averted my eyes from him, though I could tell he was watching me from the corner of his eye. The man looked at me even more intently. "You're glad I saved you, right?" he turned the tense atmosphere into an embarrassing one for me.

He smiled as she noticed me lowering my face and looking the other way to avoid him. I thought back to my humiliating outburst earlier. Want to die huh? It really felt like I was a coward.

"I'm not happy at all, anyone can save me." I pretended to hide my embarrassment in front of him.

Ethan then laughed. "Couldn't you have spoken in a nicer tone to me?" he gently pulled my head to look at him, as he treated the wound on my forehead. "Even though you owe me a favor."

I looked at him with a softened gaze, regret rising within me after listening to his words and realizing my attitude towards him. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that dying is better." I looked at him closely, though somewhat hesitantly. "I realize that living is better than ending up like yesterday."

Ethan nodded his head. "Good. Now go back to lying down, I have to do a thorough examination." He gave me the order.

I was silent for a moment on the spot, then I slowly got up and lay down. While lying down I felt awkward, this situation was quite confusing for me. After all Ethan is Alex's uncle, the one who gave me this pain, the one who caused me to end up like this.

"Lie back relaxed, I won't do anything to you." He emphasized it like it was a light thing. I closed my eyes trying to control myself in front of him. "You don't need to doubt or fear me, because I am the only one who can save you, because I am your current doctor." He was being casual.

But his relaxed attitude was inversely proportional to my current situation, I felt awkward and uncomfortable with his presence near me.

What did he mean? I myself didn't understand what had gotten him involved with me, and why he was talking like he knew something.

As his hand came closer and examined my body, I gasped. There was a strange feeling that instantly spread through my body, it felt so strange that I didn't dare to look into his eyes.

"Are you okay Sarah?" The voice made me flinch even more. My eyes opened wide as the most disappointing figure in my life now appeared in front of me.

"Don't be stupid, you know best what happened to her." Ethan responded coldly to Alex's questions that sounded absurd.Ignoring that, I looked at Alex sharply. "What are you doing here?"

My eyes caught Ethan watching me and then glanced at Alex. He didn't move a step back from there and stayed there.

Alex then stepped closer. "I don't think uncle needs to interfere with our business." He responded to Ethan's cold remark, shamelessly.

I saw Ethan smile sarcastically. "You're the one who dumped her, stop talking nonsense."

Alex, who seemed to dislike Ethan's words but couldn't reply to them, then turned to me. "I'm sorry for what you're going through, Sarah."

His words didn't make me think that he was sorry. "Concerned you say!" instead I seemed to be played by him. "You made me end up like this, Alex! You left me." I really couldn't believe that he could behave like that.

Alex looked at me with a tired face. "I did it because there was a reason." He came closer trying to touch me but I brushed him off. "In that situation I had to make a decision immediately and I did what I could."

I stared at him wide-eyed. "By leaving me there and almost getting harassed by them and dying there?" it made no sense.

Alex seemed to have trouble speaking. He averted his eyes, then looked back at me. "My father had just signed a contract with him, and they were helping the company. That's when I realized that I didn't have much choice but to save her first."

What was he trying to explain with that, it wasn't like I wasn't listening to his conversation with the kidnappers, he was clearly ignoring me.

"You're just looking for an excuse to justify your stupid behavior." Ethan commented sharply, and I agreed with him.

I looked at Alex reluctantly. "Yes." I nodded. "You don't need excuses."

Alex shook his head, continuing to ignore Ethan who gave him a sharp look."I'm not making excuses, I really did it because the situation urged me to. I was planning on saving you afterward, Sarah." The man insisted.

I stared irritably at him. "What were you thinking with your attitude like that?" how could it be so unreasonable?

Alex looked weakly at me. "Because you're stronger than Emily so-"

"Stop all this nonsense I want us to get a divorce." I gave him a stern look, I could no longer tolerate his attitude towards me.

Alex leaned closer. "You can't make decisions in anger Sarah. Try to calm down."

I dismissed his hand. "I've calmed down enough, I realized that there's nothing between us to defend anymore."

Alex shook his head. "No, at least. Give me a year, then you can decide to ask for a divorce from me."

Ethan pulled Alex's shoulders back. "Go away, Sarah is a patient at the moment who needs rest. Your presence is just annoying him." He then pushed Alex, although Alex who didn't look like he could fight him tried to dodge him.

I gave him a fierce look, what was I doing it for. Waiting for him was futile. "I want to remain divorced from you." I'm not going to change my mind.
