Chapter 6

Sarah’s POV

"What are you thinking about?" Ethan shook his hand right in front of my eyes. He caught my attention from the page.

But seeing him there after daydreaming about what I was going to do made me then move my hand to reach his hand and hold it. "Hey, Ethan, how are you today?" I asked him in a cheerful tone. I showed him a bright smile and gaze.

But he looked unresponsive at me. His eyes, which always had that sharp look, were slightly narrowed, moving elegantly yet nonchalantly. "What's wrong with you?" he snorted out a laugh with only the sound of his breathing audible.

His skeptical question made me awkward, and I pulled my hand back from him. For a moment, my eyes still met his. I still tried to smile like nothing was strange, even though it was clear that my sudden change in attitude was strange to him.

"It looks like I need to check your head and do a CT scan to see if there might be a problem." He jumped to conclusions at will.

Ethan and I were not close, nor did I have any meaningful interaction with him. It could almost be said that we knew each other but not that close. We had greeted each other but not for a long chat. At first glance, I only knew him from people's stories about him. In their chatter, Ethan sounded quite unusual.

Perhaps it was his cynical, cold personality and sarcastic, skeptical way of speaking that made him an uncomfortable interlocutor for anyone interested in him. Still, behind the image of him being cold and such, Ethan was a caring person. He might not care about what people said about him, but he was an empathetic person. At least he was more humane than Alex, who was such an asshole.

"So how is it? Do you have a pain in your head that feels like your personality has changed?" His hand, which had been checking my IV, now switched to holding the blood pressure device he was about to wrap around my arm.

I chuckled, shaking my head with a grim face. "No, I'm not. I'm fine." I couldn't deny that I was annoyed at his reaction, though I had expected that Ethan would certainly react like this.

I caught a glimpse of that dingy face, making a small laugh before he pressed the pressure device to make my arm feel firmly gripped. I glared at him, thinking he was being deliberate, while Ethan responded casually and began to stretch. "If you still have a complaint, just say so, and I'll handle it."

"No, don't do it!" I urged abruptly. "You don't have to do that. "This is about my life." I made a small mumble to get his attention.

Ethan came closer to me. He lowered his head to match my gaze. "Is there a problem? If it's about her treatment, I can suggest that you stay longer and get intense treatment."

He looked at me intently, all his attention on the answer and the expression on my face. I sighed softly for a moment. Looking up at him with more steady breathing. "I can't be in this place any longer, Eth." The urgency to move quickly and leave that place was growing. "I have to do something."

Ethan seemed to listen to my words calmly. Talking to him lately for serious matters was much more comfortable than talking to others. Ethan's presence around me made me more relaxed and feel safer. I strangely thought that I could rely on him.

I looked at him without hesitation. "You know, I need to teach Alex a lesson. Obviously, he was cheating on me, not behind my back but openly. And well... he doesn't look at all embarrassed or guilty by doing that instead, he's trying to manipulate me with the lies he's trying to instill in me,"

The man nodded his head. He understood that very clearly. Even at first glance, he sighed and looked ashamed of it. But it's not his fault, although yes... it could be that as a man, he feels embarrassed to admit Alex is his kind, who does shameful and disgusting things without losing a bit of his self-respect.

"So what do you want to do?" he took his place to sit on the edge of my bed, acting more relaxed while I watched his every move as if drugged.

I stared at him. I don't know how my breathing sounded now as my eyes continued to stare and watch him. Trying to dismiss that strange feeling, I then fixed my sitting position to be straighter, but what I didn't expect was Ethan getting closer and helping me. He made me hold my breath for a moment when I could hear the sound of his breathing and the scent of the perfume he was using dancing on the tip of my nose. I slumped my shoulders, keeping my distance from him and my mouth tightly shut, until Ethan finally returned to his original position. "I intend to get evidence of her infidelity." I continued my speech.

Although I asked Lila for help to get evidence that I could file for divorce, until now, I still haven't gotten any evidence that I can show and become a tool to file a divorce lawsuit against her. At least I should have proof of that, not just a story from me that he could deny with various things he might make up.

Filing for divorce was not an easy thing when Alex rejected it. I'm sure he must have prepared something that would make this case difficult for him to legalize. Even lately, he has started to be careful with his mistress.

"Right, you need it to file for divorce. I'll help you do it." Ethan's answer made me smile at that. "You have to act smarter in handling her."

I couldn't hide the excitement inside me. "Perfect then." I became more excited, thanks to him.

He was watching me. Maybe he didn't fully understand what I meant. I suddenly said something unexpected. In my mind, I had strategized, though I was hesitant to involve her or not. But now that I heard it would help, I felt confident in getting her to join my plan.

"I actually met Diana." I took a momentary pause, noticing the expression on his face. "She offered me a deal not to divorce Alex despite her trashy attitude. In exchange, she offered to give me some benefits, company profits, or something." I rolled my eyeballs in mild disgust.

Hearing Diana offer me material when I was hurt and tormented by her son's actions made me sick. But I couldn't just reject her outright, so I listened and listened until I could formulate a plan to get back at them in the most painful way possible.

Ethan averted his gaze from me. "So she came to you and said that?"

I narrowed my eyes and looked at her, somewhat confused, from the tone of her voice, she seemed to know something. "Did you already know about that? You met her when she left this place?" it was possible.

But Ethan shook his head. "No, it's just that I knew what she would be like. My relationship with her had never been good from the start. But I know exactly what her disposition and actions are like." I watched the man closely. This time, his way of speaking sounded darker than usual.
