Chapter 11

Seraphine's Point of View "Seraphine Wildfrost, why aren't you up yet? Your guest is waiting downstairs!" My eyes went wide, just remembering that Forester would come to our house today. I immediately stood up and went to the bathroom to wash my face and then changed my clothes. I lazily tied my hair into a bun and ran downstairs, where I saw Forester sitting comfortably at the couch, talking amicably with my father. "Forester, I apologise for my tardiness," I greeted him once I approached them. He raised an eyebrow and appraised me for a moment before nodding his head. "It's alright. Your father entertained me while I was waiting." "Have you eaten?" I asked. "I just drank some milk. My parents were not around so no one cooked breakfast." "Then we should eat first. Mom prepared some. Come on, we shouldn't study with an empty stomach." Forester looked like he would decline, but decided against it when my father led him to the dining area. My parents asked him questions,

Chapter 12

Seraphine's Point of View “Hello, Sera!” I glanced up from where I was rinsing my clothes to look at Leilani. “Hi.” “So still not in your best mood, I see.” I raised an eyebrow. “What?” She took a seat on the large rock just in front of where I am crouching. “Sera. Everybody knows you’ve been feeling off ever since the announcement. No one bothered you because Maximus’ stopped us from approaching you.” “I’m fine.” “Look, Sera. I know we’re not as close as you are with Maximus— but I’m still a friend. Alright? If you need someone to talk to, I’m here. I’m pretty sure there are some things you can’t tell a boy best friend. My ears are all free to listen to your worries.” I completely disregarded my clothes as I turned my full attention to Leilani. She’s right. Even in my first life, I wasn’t very close with her, nor anyone else in fact. But now... I could use another friend that is not Maximus. And I do need a new set of ears in the future. There are things I really

Chapter 13

Seraphine’s Point of View I crouched on the forest ground, breathing heavily. It took me a few minutes to catch my breath before I took a sip on my wooden flask. Sip turned into a full-blown drinking until not even a drop was left. “You need more exercise. I didn’t know you had such low stamina.” I shot Maximus a glare. “Low stamina?! We just walked three kilometres! Not to mention the river and steeped hills we had to go through! I am fairly certain my stamina is quite high if I endured that long before drinking.” Maximus chortled at my indignant expression. “You’re so easy to wound up! I’m just joking. I refilled my flask twice already, so you have better stamina than I do.” “I got to help you exercise more once we’re relocated then,” I stated. “You will need it.” I suppressed a grin at the hesitant look in his eyes, as if he’s already listing out all the procedures I’ll have him do. He’s not exactly wrong, because I do have pretty hard procedures when exercising. “Did

Chapter 14

Seraphine’s Point of View “Welcome to Silvercrest Town,” the Alpha’s deep voice welcomed us, his tone soft and there was a smile on his otherwise stony features. Alfred took a step forward. “I, Alfred Warrington, spokesperson for our village, express our gratitude for the offer of Adoption. Words cannot fully capture how thankful we are.” “Our Scouts have seen qualities in you that are worthy,” the Luna replied. “If they are firm in their observations, we will not refuse potential additions to the pack.” “And for that, we are eternally grateful, Luna.” “For now, we know all of you are exhausted from the trip. Your residence had been finished earlier than the time my Scouts had told you, so I do apologise for your abrupt escorting,” Alpha Eros said and inclined his head as a small gesture of apology. “You can find the names of your families in front of the house, and you have tonight and the whole day tomorrow to rest before we proceed with the ceremony. Come, I will lead you

Chapter 15

Seraphine’s Point of View “W-what?” I asked in a breathless tone. “I think I know you,” Cassius repeated. “I think I saw you already...” “You might have mistaken her over someone else. You just met her today, or you might have caught a glimpse of her last night when we arrived,” Maximus interjected, pulling me towards him. But Cassius still hasn’t let go of my wrist. So I was stuck in an awkward position between them. “No. I’m pretty sure I didn’t notice her last night,” Cassius said, shaking his head. Well, damn. “But she really, really looked familiar. Are you sure we haven’t met?” I swallowed the lump on my throat, refraining myself from yelling: 'Yes, we met already! In fact, we’re mates and married’, but that just sounds delusional, and I don’t want that to be their impression on me. “No, we haven’t,” I firmly answered, lying through my teeth. His shoulder sag in dismay, yet the narrowing of his eyes indicated that this will not be the last time I’m hearing about th

Chapter 16

Cassius’ Point of View I looked at the slowly increasing crowd of people nervously waiting at the Assembly Hall. My eyes wander around, looking for a certain hot-headed blonde. Much to my dismay, there’s still no sign of her. “Looking for the girl you pissed off?” “You go and piss off, Luster.” Luster barked out a laugh as he settled himself beside me. “Right, you pissed off a lot of girls on a daily basis.” “Not my fault they can’t accept a simple ‘no’,” I said, shrugging. Luster shakes his head, completely used to my attitude. “How is a ‘I have no interest in associating myself to people who just want to leech off my name and status’ a simple ‘no’?” Luster rolled her eyes. “That was a mean way of rejecting people, just so you know.” “That’s how I simply reject them, man. You would not want to hear the mean way.” He dissolved into laughter at that as he playfully shoved me. “You are such a big jerk.” “I know,” I said, sticking up my chin. “There she is,” Luster s

Chapter 17

Seraphine’s Point of View Talking casually with young Cassius was exhilarating. Without the arrogant quips and sharp remarks, the conversation made me feel so alive. Hearing his slowly maturing voice, still tinged with a hint of childishness, coming from that arrogant looking face was something I never realised I had longed for until now. I met him when he was slowly becoming a man, but I think I rather prefer meeting this younger version of him. I would love to meet every version of my Cassius, and to love each of them as well. “Sera, your friends are waiting for you downstairs. They said you’re all walking to school together?” My mother asked from outside my room. “Yes, mom. I’m coming!” After checking one last time if I had all my necessary things in my satchel, I left my room and hurried down. I bid goodbye to my parents and then went off with Leilani and Maximus, who were glaring at each other and mouthing off words I couldn’t understand. “Are you fighting?” I aske

Chapter 18

Seraphine’s Point of View Once we arrived at the school, Cassius and Luster offered to help us find our class. Since our registration was kind of rushed— our parents enrolled us at the last minute— we have to look at the bulletin board to find what class we belong to. “Here’s the first year’s classes,” Cassius said, pointing at the green board where papers are pinned on it. Maximus, Leilani and I started looking for our names, going for different papers to make it fast. As I know which class I belong to, I went straight for the paper where I’m sure I would see my name on it. But my eyes went wide in surprise when I did not only see my name, but also the other four I’m currently with. “Hey! We’re all in the same classes!” I exclaimed, pointing at the paper. They scrambled to look at where I pointed, and Leilani squealed in excitement as she held my arms and gently shook it. “We’re in the same class again!” “I’m in the same class as well,” Maximus glared at her, but turn

Chapter 19

Seraphine’s Point of View I closed my eyes, then I breathed deeply. I repeated it several times and only when I deemed myself calm enough, did I open my eyes. “Are you all done arguing about the same thing?” I asked in a bored tone, successfully gaining their attention. “Or you still haven’t finalised what to do tomorrow?” A week into the class showed us that leisure time wasn’t easy to have. We still haven’t gone to the Local Emporium that Luster had told us on the first day because we spent a lot of time in the library. It was nearly sunset when we left the school, no more time to visit the Emporium. But the next day, the teachers started shoving us loads of homework. So instead of visiting the shops, we stayed over in the library to finish our homework. It worked well because the five of us stayed productive— even amidst the endless bickering between Maximus, Cassius and Leilani. Luster occasionally joined when he wanted to convey his opinion, but most of the time, I was lef

Chapter 20

Cassius’ Point of ViewI woke up with a loud gasp, breathing heavily as I abruptly sat up on my bed.I reached for my throat with trembling hands, sighing in relief when I found no slit there. A shudder ran through me as the phantom pain of that deep cut lingered.I did not dream of the same girl I’ve been dreaming of for the past weeks, but I heard him scream my name when I fell limply on the ground. The heart-shattering scream made my heart hurt, as if I was hurting more for the girl than the slit on my throat. It was another bizarre dream I have, but one that made me shudder the most. I don’t know what to make of it, because I believe it’s not just a simple dream anymore. Is it some sort of prophetic dream? Does it show what will happen to my future? As far as I remember, I was taller and more muscular. I could practically feel my own strength. My voice was deep and silky—different from how it is now.Shaking my head as I knew it would be impossible to fall asleep once again, I sto
