Chapter 31

Seraphine’s Point of ViewI watched in deep amusement how Cassius hesitated in front of our house, his hand hovering mid-air before deciding against it. From the small balcony of my room, I had the perfect view of watching him, unnoticed. His usually imperious, aristocratic features were betrayed by the tension in his muscles— he’s far more tense and nervous now than his first visit. I could practically hear the thoughts racing inside his mind right now as he stood in front of our door. He’s probably fearing the judgement of my parents for what happened. The sight of him being nervous was never not entertaining. He was always smug and confident, so it was rewarding to see him fidgeting like this. His fear of my parents’ reaction is useless though, because they didn’t blame him. I already explained everything to them and they didn’t blame it all on Cassius because just like what I was saying, I wasn’t faultless. They weren’t mad at him either. In fact, they’re mad at me for not being

Chapter 32

Seraphine’s Point of View“I will knock you out the next time you decide to do something stupid,” I hissed, glaring at Cassius who slumped on the ground with a loud groan. “So now it’s my fault?” he retorted, rolling his eyes. “Of course, it’s yours. I didn’t say it wasn’t,” I replied, slumping down beside him. I rested my back on the now clean wall and shut my eyes. Cassius didn’t deign a reply. I opened my eyes and took a quick glance at him, only to meet his blue eyes already staring at me. We quickly averted our gaze, my face blushing profusely.“Are you and Wilder still not speaking to each other?” Cassius asked after a long silence between us.I scoffed at the reminder of my current situation with Maximus. “To hell with him. I won’t chase him around if he doesn’t want to talk to me.”“Do you know why he suddenly stopped talking to you?” I shake my head. “No. We were fine last friday. He just suddenly stopped talking to me when monday came. We didn’t see each other during wee

Chapter 33

Seraphine’s Point of View“My parents liked it,” Cassius said as we entered the Homestead. “The caramel fudge, I mean.”“Really?” I asked, genuinely surprised. Because if I remember correctly, the Alpha and Luna don’t really like sweets. “Yeah. They’re not a fan of sweets, but one of the few they actually like is chocolate fudge. Daniel’s caramel fudge topped it though.”I beamed. “Yes! That’s my father.” I proudly stated, earning a soft grin from Cassius. He pushed the door of his brother’s room open. Thankfully, no dust fell on us this time. “The furniture will arrive in a few minutes. We should clean the room one last time before we decorate it,” I said. His eyebrows rose in confusion. “But we already cleaned it yesterday! I thought we’ll just decorate it today?”I rolled my eyes, already feeling exasperated. “The room accumulated nearly half a day’s worth of dust already. Look at that corner— there’s another spider web!”Cassius glanced at where I pointed and he groaned, grumbli

Chapter 34

Seraphine’s Point of View“Save me the trouble and shoo your fangirls away, will you? I can’t concentrate on reading because I keep on hearing their giggles,” I snapped at Cassius, who automatically returned my glare with his own.“They are not my fangirls,” he hissed, then he turned around and whisper-yelled: “If you have nothing better to do, can you leave? We can’t focus on our work because of your noise.”The girls flushed in an ugly shade of red, gathering their things as fast as they could and bolted out of the library. The Librarian, Miss Eriah, yelled at them, her face contorted into one of annoyance and displeasure.I sighed. Finally.“Is this our final choice? Deadly Nightshade?” I asked Cassius, pointing at one of the plants in the book we’re reading. He turned his attention to it, carefully reading its description. “Everything sounds fine to me. I’m not knowledgeable about plants, so everything I read is incredible.”I rolled my eyes, though the smile on my lips betrayed m

Chapter 35

Seraphine’s Point of ViewAs soon as our teacher dismissed the class, I quickly picked up my satchel and ran out of the room. I could hear Leilani calling out my name, and Luster’s confused grumbling. I ignored how Cassius tried to reach out to me.I dashed away, ducking from the other students on the hallway and stairs as I made my way out of the school. I breathed out a sigh of relief once I was near the Residential Area, only to squeal in surprise when someone grabbed the arm where Asher left off his hand mark. I scrambled to pull away, wincing as it stung.“Why is your arm bleeding?”My blood went cold when I realised it was Cassius who grabbed me. It seemed he ran as fast as he could to catch up, seeing as he’s still panting as well.I managed to pull my arms away from him, and then I turned around to leave.“If you insist on running away, I will tell your parents that someone’s bullying you.”I spun and directed my scowl at Cassius. “Don’t you dare, Cassius.”“Then tell me hones

Chapter 36

Cassius’ Point of ViewMy brows furrowed in confusion at Seraphine’s reaction upon seeing my brother. “You know him?” I asked.“We were classmates for a short time in our previous school,” my brother— George — was the one who responded, seeing how Seraphine here is too flabbergasted and speechless to do so.I nodded in understanding, although I still find her reaction over the top. There was something in her eyes I couldn’t describe. There was surprise— which is understandable, curiosity— again, understandable, confusion— of what, I had no idea, and then another one I couldn’t name. It was like a mixture of apprehension and dread, as if my brother would bring all sorts of bad luck and mischief.Or will he? I suddenly became apprehensive about my brother because of Seraphine’s reaction, which is unfair for him, so I quickly shoved it away from my mind.“I didn’t know this was the pack that had Adopted your village,” George said, looking at Seraphine. “Congratulations, by the way.”Ser

Chapter 37

Seraphine’s Point of ViewI’ve been staring out the window of the tree house for who knows how long. It didn’t matter. I have yet to come up with reasons as to why several changes happened in just a span of four months. Not even a year! What have I done?Getting Adopted four years early, meeting and befriending Cassius, Maximus and I fighting, my parents becoming Healer seven years early, and then George Forester— an unknown man that came out of nowhere— appearing in our village and then turning out to be the Silvercrest’s Alpha’s first son. How did things turn out so differently this time? Cassius had no brother before! I didn't even know a guy named George Forester in our previous life! He just appeared out of the blue. Is he an anomaly as well? And then there’s the rogue wolves who take refuge in our village when it should have been demolished once we left! I don’t know anymore. It’s so hard to track where I had gone wrong, and how to mend things when its course of events had gone

Chapter 38

Seraphine’s Point of ViewIt’s unnerving. Two weeks had passed since my encounter with Asher and his cronies. Two weeks of relatively peaceful times where they left me alone. While I still receive occasional glares from Addison, they did not do more than that. Asher does not ignore me— he smiles at me, which makes it all more unsettling than having them ignore me.I supposed it should have made me relieved that they weren’t targeting me anymore. Leilani believes so, but Cassius and Luster didn’t. Neither do I. It just made me more vigilant than usual. It was a momentary reprieve, it seemed. They must have been planning something. I don’t believe for a moment that they just decided to leave me alone after that threat Asher had thrown at me. Still, I was thankful for the peace.Though it didn’t mean I’ve been really living peacefully.Maximus and I are still not talking. He’s still with his new ‘friends’ and continues patronising others. It was disappointing more than it hurts to see h

Chapter 39

Seraphine’s Point of View“Does anyone fancy hanging out at the tree house?” Luster asked once classes were dismissed.Leilani immediately perked up. “Me! Let’s finish our homework there!”The two of them turned to Cassius and I, waiting for our response. I shrugged. “I don’t mind. We can also clean the place up and repair some things, if you’re up to it.”“Oh! Right! Right! So we can have proper sleepovers there!”Luster chuckled. “I didn’t think of that.”“I won’t clean that place,” Cassius said. “I don’t even clean in our house.”“Then don’t come,” I drawled. It earned his infamous glare, which did nothing to faze me. He’s aware of it as well, but it just became a habit to him whenever he gets annoyed at me, so I didn’t mind.In the end, we agreed to meet up in our house. I invited them over for a quick snack before we went to the tree house. My parents, especially my father, happily provided us with extra snacks to bring which my friends happily accepted. “Your parents are great

Chapter 40

Cassius’ Point of View“You’re not going to meet Wildfrost?” George asked me once I settled myself on my usual seat in the dining area.I cocked an eyebrow at his direction, shooting him a questioning look. “No? Is there any reason why...”He shakes his head before I can even finish my question. “No reason at all.” Then he returned his attention to his tea. I frowned in confusion, but decided to leave it be since I couldn’t find an answer by myself. We ate breakfast in silence, our parents nowhere to be found. George was officially Adopted to the pack a week ago. It was a private Adoption— no audiences aside from family members. It was because my father decided to adopt him for our family as well. His name is now George Forester-Silverton. It was his decision to keep his mother’s name, and my parents respected that. I didn’t care— what’s important for me is we’re officially brothers now.The thought of finally having a sibling fills me with a mix of happiness and surrealism. For so
