Seraphine’s Point of ViewThe boys charged forward, the splintered wood raised high in the air. Just as Cassius was about to swing it at the bloody hands, someone yelled in a panicked voice.“Wait! I am General Arthur! Do not hit my hand, children!”Almost immediately, Cassius and Luster lowered their hands and took a step back, as if they recognized the voice. But Maximus still seemed sceptical, gripping the wood tightly without swinging it at the General.Once the man climbed up the house, he dusted off his hands and turned to look at us with those dark eyes. He was carefully examining each of us, and once he deemed we were alright, he nodded his head.“Did you see anyone creeping around in this area?” He asked. When I noticed that none of my companions were willing to answer, I stepped forward to speak. “No, sir. As soon as we arrived, we were too occupied overlooking the town. And when the announcement was made, we huddled in the corner.”General Arthur arched an eyebrow, his eyes

Seraphine’s Point of ViewA loud knock on the door made me jump from where I was lying on the floor, drawing random scenes on a piece of paper.“Sera?”My eyes went wide upon hearing Leilani’s voice. “Leil! Come in! The door is unlocked.”The door swung open, and Leilani’s head peeked in. We both smiled broadly as I got up to greet her.“What are you doing here? Did they lift up the lockdown?”She closed the door and skipped towards me, clinging to my arm and pulling me down on my bed. We both giggled over it.“Yeah. I decided to come here as soon as I heard it. Though my parents walked me here. They're downstairs, talking to your parents about what happened.”“I don’t even know why they had to implement a lockdown when they already captured the culprit,” I said, sitting up. “I was so bored here!”“Oh, you didn’t know?” I arched an eyebrow, prompting her to continue.“The culprit had an accomplice, as he admitted when he was finally caught sneaking toward the cave. There were three o

Cassius’ Point of View I pace back and forth in my room, undecided which clothes I should wear later. Should I wear my dragon boots? Or a simple one would do? I don’t want Wildfrost to think I was dressing up for her. She will surely never let me hear the end of this. No. I just wanted to look more than presentable. My parents drilled to me the importance of how one presents himself to the public. A person presenting themselves to look respectable and dignified would earn the people’s praises while someone who doesn’t bother with how they look would earn the people’s judgments. Since I am the only child of the Silvercrest pack’s Alpha and Luna, I always have to look good in front of the others no matter whose company I have. So I am not trying to impress Wildfrost. She’s quite a smart girl, so she should know better than to think I will do that. In fact, between the two of us, she’s probably the one dressing up and impressing me. After all, it was her who asked me out. Though I m

Seraphine's Point of ViewI frowned as I continued staring at Maximus' retreating figure. He was acting weird from the moment he arrived late in our first class, at lunch time, and even until now that classes ended. The five of us always walked home together, even if we arrived at school separately the moment we realised Leilani takes so long to prepare in the morning, and that Luster waited for all of us for two hours.Maximus arrived earlier, smiling wanly at me though I’m pretty sure he tried to make it appear like how he usually does it. Unfortunately for Maximus, I know him quite well already to see when his expression shifts.Though I couldn’t discern what expression it was. Still, it enabled me to know when something is wrong with him.The only problem is, it was not easy to catch him and ask about it. He always either excuses himself immediately, saying a bunch of things I didn’t believe one bit, or he smoothly diverts the topic away whenever he notices I was about to ask him.

Cassius’ Point of View“Sit down, Cassius,” my mother ordered imperiously which leaves me with no objections.I sat on the single couch in the drawing room, looking down on my lap while fidgeting with my fingers. I didn’t dare to meet their gaze, belatedly realising how rude and disrespectful I was to my father in the meeting room, in front of the other Council and Circle members.I couldn’t bring myself to apologise even if I feel bad for saying those insensitive words I blurted out of my anger. I’m still feeling upset over what I heard. It was so sudden— it came out of nowhere. And how come I didn’t notice we had a guest residing in our home? She even passed away here and got cremated! Even if she wished for it to be a secret, still, this is my home. It’s so stupid of me not to notice.“Cassius Silverton,” mom called out.I remained looking at my lap.I heard a deep sigh. Then much softer, she repeated. “Cassius, son, look at us.”Reluctantly, I raised my head. They were looking at
