Chapter 21

Seraphine’s Point of ViewI let my hands trail across the stack of books piled neatly on the shelves. I briefly read out the titles, unsure which one to take. It was a heavenly feeling, returning to my younger self and experiencing this kind of happiness. Such an innocent struggle, to be troubled of which book should I first check out. If only all our problems are this shallow...“You know you can check out three books, right?”I felt my blood run cold when I heard Cassius speak behind me. My heart is pounding so loudly against my chest, and my mind spiraled out of control.I felt relieved when Maximus pulled me away from him, allowing me to finally breathe properly. The guilt and harrowing pain that struck me upon hearing his latest dream had shattered my composure—I almost broke down right there. Fortunately, Cassius interpreted it differently. But I can’t believe he dreamt of his brawl with Maximus! He dreamt of his brutal death... I had no idea why he was having dreams of his fi

Chapter 22

Seraphine’s Point of ViewThe boys charged forward, the splintered wood raised high in the air. Just as Cassius was about to swing it at the bloody hands, someone yelled in a panicked voice.“Wait! I am General Arthur! Do not hit my hand, children!”Almost immediately, Cassius and Luster lowered their hands and took a step back, as if they recognized the voice. But Maximus still seemed sceptical, gripping the wood tightly without swinging it at the General.Once the man climbed up the house, he dusted off his hands and turned to look at us with those dark eyes. He was carefully examining each of us, and once he deemed we were alright, he nodded his head.“Did you see anyone creeping around in this area?” He asked. When I noticed that none of my companions were willing to answer, I stepped forward to speak. “No, sir. As soon as we arrived, we were too occupied overlooking the town. And when the announcement was made, we huddled in the corner.”General Arthur arched an eyebrow, his eyes

Chapter 23

Seraphine’s Point of ViewI startled awake when I felt something hit my face. The sudden dizziness upon my abrupt wake made me halt from sitting up straight. Once it dissipated, I slowly opened my eyes, adjusting at the brightness of the surroundings. My brows furrowed when I saw it wasn’t my room, and then immediately remembered where I was. I looked beside me where I knew Leilani laid down and found no one. However, Cassius was still asleep on my other side.My heart stuttered upon seeing his sleeping form. A wave of nostalgia threatened to envelope me, but I quickly set it aside. It’s still so early in the morning to cry and reminisce about my memories in my first life.“The princess is finally awake!” Leilani’s voice resonated across the tree house. A ruffled leaves were on her lap. I immediately knew who threw something on my face. She was leaning near the window, while Maximus and Luster were talking silently beside her.“Good morning to you as well, Leil,” I said, voice still

Chapter 24

Seraphine’s Point of ViewA loud knock on the door made me jump from where I was lying on the floor, drawing random scenes on a piece of paper.“Sera?”My eyes went wide upon hearing Leilani’s voice. “Leil! Come in! The door is unlocked.”The door swung open, and Leilani’s head peeked in. We both smiled broadly as I got up to greet her.“What are you doing here? Did they lift up the lockdown?”She closed the door and skipped towards me, clinging to my arm and pulling me down on my bed. We both giggled over it.“Yeah. I decided to come here as soon as I heard it. Though my parents walked me here. They're downstairs, talking to your parents about what happened.”“I don’t even know why they had to implement a lockdown when they already captured the culprit,” I said, sitting up. “I was so bored here!”“Oh, you didn’t know?” I arched an eyebrow, prompting her to continue.“The culprit had an accomplice, as he admitted when he was finally caught sneaking toward the cave. There were three o

Seraphine’s Point of View“I can’t understand why everyone looks so happy,” I grumbled as soon as I took my seat between Luster and Maximus.Luster whistled teasingly. “Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”I gave him a withering look, which he just laughed off.“Everyone is just happy that the lockdown has been lifted,” Maximus said.I raised an eyebrow. “But it’s been two days since it was lifted. So why would it make them so happy this early in the morning?”“Just because your morning started miserably does not mean everyone feels the same,” Cassius said in a condescending voice.Maximus turned his head on the side to glare at Cassius. I gently patted his arms and smiled at him, then I turned to Cassius.“My day only got miserable when I heard the other girls giggling happily upon seeing you,” I said, smirking at him. “Seems like your fangirls have been missing you, Silverton. Why don’t you be so kind and send them a flying kiss? Might alleviate the pain of miss

Chapter 26

Cassius’ Point of ViewI pace back and forth in my room, undecided which clothes I should wear later. Should I wear my dragon boots? Or a simple one would do? I don’t want Wildfrost to think I was dressing up for her. She will surely never let me hear the end of this.No. I just wanted to look more than presentable. My parents drilled to me the importance of how one presents himself to the public. A person presenting themselves to look respectable and dignified would earn the people’s praises while someone who doesn’t bother with how they look would earn the people’s judgments. Since I am the only child of the Silvercrest pack’s Alpha and Luna, I always have to look good in front of the others no matter whose company I have.So I am not trying to impress Wildfrost. She’s quite a smart girl, so she should know better than to think I will do that. In fact, between the two of us, she’s probably the one dressing up and impressing me. After all, it was her who asked me out. Though I must c

Chapter 27

Seraphine’s Point of View“I still don’t understand why you just bought a dreamcatcher of all things,” I said, pointing at the dreamcatcher with a red and brown combination. “Is it because you think I don’t afford the ones you actually like?”Cassius shot me an incredulous look. “Just because I did not choose something expensive doesn’t mean that’s what I thought of you. Can’t I just want a dreamcatcher? I already told you about my dreams. There’s no harm in trying to have one.”“But you said it was not a bad dream,” I said, my heart twisting painfully at the reminder of what Cassius always dreamt of— the glimpses of his first life, which he believed was some sort of foreshadowing regarding his mate.I wanted to laugh at the irony, but the emotion it made me feel had stopped me from doing so.“It’s not,” Cassius softly said. “But I really wanted to have a long, peaceful sleep for once. I usually wake up in the middle of the dreams for some unknown reason, and I couldn’t sleep again no

Chapter 28

Seraphine's Point of ViewI frowned as I continued staring at Maximus' retreating figure. He was acting weird from the moment he arrived late in our first class, at lunch time, and even until now that classes ended. The five of us always walked home together, even if we arrived at school separately the moment we realised Leilani takes so long to prepare in the morning, and that Luster waited for all of us for two hours.Maximus arrived earlier, smiling wanly at me though I’m pretty sure he tried to make it appear like how he usually does it. Unfortunately for Maximus, I know him quite well already to see when his expression shifts.Though I couldn’t discern what expression it was. Still, it enabled me to know when something is wrong with him.The only problem is, it was not easy to catch him and ask about it. He always either excuses himself immediately, saying a bunch of things I didn’t believe one bit, or he smoothly diverts the topic away whenever he notices I was about to ask him.
