Seraphine’s Point of View

I let my hands trail across the stack of books piled neatly on the shelves. I briefly read out the titles, unsure which one to take. It was a heavenly feeling, returning to my younger self and experiencing this kind of happiness. Such an innocent struggle, to be troubled of which book should I first check out.

If only all our problems are this shallow...

“You know you can check out three books, right?”

I felt my blood run cold when I heard Cassius speak behind me. My heart is pounding so loudly against my chest, and my mind spiraled out of control.

I felt relieved when Maximus pulled me away from him, allowing me to finally breathe properly. The guilt and harrowing pain that struck me upon hearing his latest dream had shattered my composure—I almost broke down right there. Fortunately, Cassius interpreted it differently.
