Chapter 22

Seraphine’s Point of View

The boys charged forward, the splintered wood raised high in the air. Just as Cassius was about to swing it at the bloody hands, someone yelled in a panicked voice.

“Wait! I am General Arthur! Do not hit my hand, children!”

Almost immediately, Cassius and Luster lowered their hands and took a step back, as if they recognized the voice. But Maximus still seemed sceptical, gripping the wood tightly without swinging it at the General.

Once the man climbed up the house, he dusted off his hands and turned to look at us with those dark eyes. He was carefully examining each of us, and once he deemed we were alright, he nodded his head.

“Did you see anyone creeping around in this area?” He asked.

When I noticed that none of my companions were willing to answer, I stepped forward to speak. “No, sir. As soon as we arrived, we were too occupied overlooking the town. And when the announcement was made, we huddled in the corner.”
