Chapter Thirty-One

Their ordeal went on and light finally faded, Clara found herself lying on the cold stone floor of the chamber. She was exhausted, her body aching from the battle. But as she looked around, she saw that the figure was gone, their dark presence erased from existence. The orb floated gently in the air, its light now a soft, calming glow. The Heart pulsed faintly in Clara’s hand, its energy spent but still alive.Clara struggled to her feet, her gaze fixed on the orb. “We did it,” she whispered, barely brave enough to believe what just happened.Ethan moaned as he stood on his feet, rubbing his head. “Did we win?”Luna smiled weakly as she helped Isolde to her feet. “I think so. The figure’s gone, and the orb… it’s different now.”Selene approached the orb, her expression one of wonder. “The Heart and the orb are one now. They’re in balance.”Clara gestured, feeling a profound sense of help wash over her. The world was secure, at least for the time being . But there was still one final t

The mountain run lingered within the distance, spiked crests covered in dull clouds that twirled forebodingly. Clara, Ethan, and Selene rode hard toward the sanctuary where they had once sealed the Heart and the orb. The closer they got, the more harsh the air got to be, as in case the mountains themselves were pushing back against their approach.“There's something wrong,” Clara said, her voice tight with tension as she guided her horse up the limit way. “It’s like the entire area is... rejecting us.”“Or it’s a warning,” Selene replied, her eyes scanning the horizon. “Whatever is causing the seal to break might already be here.”Ethan, ever the pragmatist, gripped the hilt of his sword. “Then we deal with it. We’ve faced worse before, and we’re still here.”As they rose the final incline, they saw the sanctuary. The once peaceful and sacrosanct space was presently corrupted with a ghostly shine, the brilliant runes that had once sparkled on the surface of the stone presently flashin

Clara, Ethan, and Selene stood on the edge of the mountain, their breaths battered as they gazed down at the sanctuary. The once wonderful structure was presently a disintegrating demolish, rings of dim energy winding up from the gaps within the ground like harmful smoke. The Ascendant's chilling giggling resounded in their ears, a frequenting reminder of the drive they had just unleashed.“We can't remain here,” Clara said, her voice barely relentless. “We ought to regroup, find the others, and figure out how to stop this.”Ethan gestured, still holding his sword. His confrontation was a veil of assurance, but Clara saw fear in his eyes. They had confronted obscurity in the past, but nothing like this. “Where do we go?”Selene, her usually calm demeanor shaken, looked toward the distant forest that bordered the mountain. “There’s a place, deep in the woods, a hidden sanctuary. It’s ancient, older than any of us. If we can get there, we might be able to find something to help us.”Cla

The tablet is just one piece of a bigger puzzle. Selena said thoughtfully, "we have to search for the complete parts to make it a whole if we're to understand its purpose." Ethan frowned, his mind already racing ahead. "And where do we find the other pieces?"Selene murmured, standing up and slipping the tablet into her bag. "There are rumors, stories of old-fashioned relics scattered over the land, each one connected to a place of power. If we could discover these relics, we may be able to reproduce the ritual." Clara's heart sank at the thought of another journey, another battle ahead. But she knew they had no choice. The Ascendant was out there, becoming more grounded at every passing moment. If they didn't act quickly, it would be late."We have to be split up," Clara said, her voice firm. "We’ll cover more ground that way. Selene, you take the tablet and try to locate the other pieces. Ethan and I will search for anything we can use to hold off the Ascendant."Ethan looked at C

The chamber proceeded to collapse around them, the dividers moaning beneath the weight of the dim energy the animal had unleashed. Clara fixed her grasp on the antiquated blade, her intellect dashing as she attempted to figure out how they might conceivably overcome such a capable foe. The Ascendant reformed a few feet away, its fiery eyes locked onto Clara. “You think that blade can save you? It is but a fragment of the power I command.”Clara felt a surge of doubt, but she pushed it down, stepping forward to stand beside Ethan. “We’re not going to let you take this city,” she said, her voice steady. “We’ll stop you, whatever it takes.”The Ascendant sneered, a twisted smile spreading across its dark face. “Then face your end, foolis

Ethan's voice resonated through the chamber, but silence answered him. Ice surged through his veins as he vacillated through the debris and jetsam, looking frantically for any sign of Clara. The air was thick and clean, making it troublesome to see, but he pushed forward, his heart beating in his chest.“Clara!” he called once more, his voice rough. He checked the rubble, trusting and asking that she was just covered up underneath the flotsam and jetsam. But as he filtered through the broken stones and smashed pieces of the temple, fear settled in his stomach. There was no sign of her. Not even the sword she had wielded with such power.“Damn it!” Ethan reviled, hammering his clench hand against the closest divider. How could this have happened? One minute they were battling the Ascendant, and another, Clara was gone, vanished without a clue. He had seen the light devour her, but he refused to accept that she was gone.Ethan's hands trembled as he pushed through the rubble, refusing

That thing wants to kill us, there’s no guarantee it’s telling the truth!”Selene shook her head, a determined glint in her eyes. “But what if it is? We came all this way to find Clara. We can’t turn back now.”Ethan hesitated, torn between his instinct to protect Selene and his desperation to find Clara. He knew she

Every second spent here felt like a step closer to disaster. The Keeper signaled to the dividers of the chamber, where the antiquated carvings appeared to beat with life. “The parts are scattered over this realm, covered up in places where the darkness is most grounded. Each fragment is guarded by a powerful force, a remnant of the ancient war that nearly consumed all.”Selene’s brow furrowed as she studied the carvings. They depicted battles between figures of light and shadow, locked in an eternal struggle.
