Thirty-Five

Clara's grasp fixed on the sword as the ground proceeded to shake underneath them. The antiquated weapon beat with a life of its own, transmitting a cold, crude energy that sent chills down her spine. She felt the power coursing through her veins, but with it came a sense of fear, a dull, foreboding presence that appeared to hide fair underneath the surface of the blade.

Ethan stunned to his feet, his eyes bolted on the sword. “Clara, we have to be get out of here. Whatever you just awakened, it’s going to bring the whole mountain down on us!”

Clara nodded, her heart racing. She could feel the cave trembling, the walls cracking as the ancient forge responded to the weapon’s awakening. They had to move, and fast.

“Let’s go!” Clara shouted, pulling the sword free from the pedestal. The minute the sword left its resting put, the tremors escalates, and a stunning thunder reverberated through the cave.
