Chapter Ninety-Nine

The Abyss had been destroyed, but the aftermath hung heavy in the air. The void that once undermined to consume everything was now a calm, destroyed field, its perpetual obscurity supplanted with spooky silence. Clara stopped by Marcus's side, her heart pounding as she checked his beat. He was alive, barely.

“Stay with me, Marcus,” she said softly, her voice breaking as she brushed his hair from his forehead. Blood seeped through his torn clothing where the claws of the void’s heart had struck him. His breathing was shallow, each rise of his chest labored and weak.

Ethan and Mariam arrived at her side, their faces etched with concern. Ethan knelt beside Clara, his hands glowing faintly as he pressed them over Marcus’s wounds.

“I can slow the bleeding,” Ethan said, his voice strained. “But whatever that thing did to him, it’s deep. Dark magic, he’s not healing as he should.”
