A few weeks later…Emily Stanford looked across the table at her adoptive father and ‘sister’. They played the role of the perfect happy family well. One could say she and her father had been a happy family until this imposter, Aurora, had come and changed their dynamics. In the few weeks she had been here, she had already made herself a permanent fixture in their lives. Everyone now referred to her as the Alpha’s daughter while she was simply ‘Emily’ She clucked her tongue at the thought, that didn’t sit well with her one bit. All her dreams of one day becoming the ruler of this Pack were now shattered. She’d be damned if she relinquished her position easily to this little usurper. Blood daughter or not, she had been the one by the old man’s side all these years. Her real parents had been taken away from her at such a young age, it had been a miracle that the Alpha had taken pity on her and even loved her like his own. She was grateful for that but she had also given her life up f
Aurora’s POVA few weeks have passed since I started training under Alice. She has been extremely patient with me, putting me through the basics of healing. I’m starting to get the hang of it even though I can only practice on plants for now. Alice says I need to master control before I move on to healing real-life animals and our kind. This was because healing others required more energy and I could end up giving too much of my life force and harming myself, or worse, lead to my death. Yikes! Healing was kind of like a give and take process, I was simply giving out some of my strength to the weak. I had to be extremely careful and know when to stop. My life here has fallen into a predictable schedule; I wake up early and go into the garden to practice before having breakfast and then leaving for the clinic. At the clinic, I help Alice attend to the few patients we have and when we’re not busy with patients, she teaches me how to control my energy. I like to think that I’ve gotten
Aurora’s POV“No…no…no. This is crazy!” I say, snapping out of whatever spell I'd been under. “I can’t marry you, Michael”“Why not?” Michael said, still on his knees. He looked very surprised. “Michael, please stand up. I can’t do this. Please stop this…” I said. Michael reluctantly got up and pocketed the little box. “Why are you doing this Aurora? Is this some form of payback for what I did to you?” Gone were any traces of emotion in his voice. My heart hardened as I remembered my humiliation and pain. “As much as I would love to get back at you, that’s not what this is about. This doesn’t….it just doesn’t feel right!”“It feels very right to me. I traveled such a long distance to get to you of course it feels right. But I’ll respect your decision for now, that doesn’t mean I won’t try to convince you every time I’m here,” Michael says. I was suddenly feeling genuinely sorry for Michael, he seemed so sincere that my determination almost waivered. Was I throwing away my chance
Aurora’s POVI opened my eyes slowly to find that I was still in the clinic. I was lying down on a bed in one of the rooms. A slight headache buzzed at the back of my head as I attempted to sit up. A wave of dizziness hit me and I held my head wishing the feeling would stop. Alice came into the room shortly after, frowning slightly when her eyes met with mine.“You must be feeling tired, it will go away in a little bit.” She said, concern softening her features. “How’s the boy?” I asked instead. A more pronounced frown settled on her face. “You should worry about yourself, Aurora. You could have lost your life trying to save him. Why couldn’t you wait?”“I…he was in so much pain. I couldn’t stand to see it” I saidAlice scolded me “I understand how you must have felt but you have to understand that until you’re fully trained, you shouldn’t try out things like that on your own. You were so worried about someone else’s child but you didn’t think about what could have happened to yours
The day before….Emily straightened her dress for the umpteenth time as she stood next to her father and a few high-ranked members outside the Pack House. It was early in the morning and even though she hated having to be at the Pack House early, the situation warranted her punctuality. The highest-ranking wolf, Alpha Klaus, was paying their small pack a visit! She hardly believed her ears when her father had informed her that Alpha Klaus was visiting in person. The reason for his visit wasn’t totally clear, he had simply said he needed to have a conversation with her father regarding business matters. Father had been tense while relaying the news to her, Alpha Klaus was known to be ruthless in his dealings. It was very possible that his visit could mean they were in trouble of some sort. Yet, She couldn’t help being excited about meeting the infamous wolf. Father clenched and unclenched his fist next to her, he was doing a poor job of hiding his anxiety. Quite pathetic! Finally, a
Back to the present day…Aurora’s Pov“Dear, why are you standing there? Have a seat.” My dad called out to me. “Yes…” I answered absentmindedly while I wished I could disappear from this room. I was finding it hard to breathe steadily, It was as if all the air had been sucked out from the room. Despite this, I walked to the table. I wished I didn’t have to, but I had to sit directly in front of Alpha Klaus. My dad was seated at the head of the table as usual, but Alpha Klaus had hijacked my regular spot at the right-hand side of my dad. I didn’t trust myself not to stab him with a fork if I chose to sit next to him, so I sat in Emily’s seat instead. I sat the flowers down gently on the next seat. Speaking of which, where was Emily? “Aurora, meet Alpha Klaus of the Blood Moon Pack.” My dad said, breaking the silence. Around us, Flora was setting the table. I nodded in response, fixing my eyes on my dad. “This is Aurora, my daughter.” My dad said to him. “It’s Lovely to meet you
Aurora’s POVI moped around in my room for most of the morning. I told myself I wasn’t hiding from Klaus, I was only taking time to think about what to do. This whole thing was giving me a major headache. What kind of crazy coincidence was it that he had appeared in my home? Now of all times? I couldn’t figure out what his intentions were and who knew how he might react to news of my pregnancy? We had barely even had a full conversation, I didn’t even know the man at all. Would the right thing be to hide it from him? How was I supposed to raise a child with a stranger, assuming he wanted it too? Or would I be better off alone? Unmated mothers were frowned upon in our world, it was nothing short of an abomination. My mom had married my stepfather just to avoid the stigma that would have followed. Speaking of my mom, I hadn’t even told her yet. I knew she would be disappointed yet she would support me. But I didn’t want to disrupt her new life just yet, she would probably cut her tri
Aurora’s POVI was blinded by tears as I sprinted down the hall in a bid to get away from everyone and I didn’t stop until I was outside the Pack House. Behind me, I could hear someone yelling at me to stop but I didn’t listen as I continued running. I must have run only a few yards before I felt someone yank me back, causing me to almost topple to the floor. When I turned around, I was met with Michael’s angry face breathing down heavily on mine. The fact that it was he who had come after me made me even more disappointed than I already was. I was so pissed at the tragic turn my life had suddenly taken that angry tears immediately seeped into my eyes.“What the fuck Aurora?” Michael asked loudly. “It’s not true right? Or is it?!” He barked, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak.Naturally, I knew I owed everyone an explanation but not Michael! Not the same Michael who was a chronic cheat and a liar! Heck, I had nothing to say to him because he didn’t deserve it!“Answer me!” He bac
