Josh only smiled slightly.
Somehow, his heart felt heavy at the thought of giving in to Sharon’s wishes. He didn’t have the energy, to be honest, with her. His body and mind were completely drained from dealing with problems he never expected. On top of that, he worried that if any trace of Ashley’s scent still lingered on his clothes, Sharon would definitely notice.
A quiet sigh escaped his nose. His fingers, which had been gently caressing her cheek, now traced down to her full, red lips.
“Do you want to do it?”
Even so, he couldn’t bring himself to reject her outright. He had already hurt her enough by betraying her—by marrying another woman. Now he couldn't disappoint her more.
Sharon grabbed Josh wrist and kissed his thumb. “I don’t know. I’m just not in the mood. I’d rather hit you than sleep with you.”
Josh tilted his head spontaneously. Quite amazed that the girl wasn't excited. Usually, it was he who struggled to keep up with her.
“How about you hit me after I shower?” he smiled, then brushing a kiss over her lips. “You can do anything to me later.”
Sharon’s eyes gleamed even more. “Anything? Don’t regret it.”
Josh chuckled. “Right. Anything.”
He ruffled her hair before rising from the couch. His feet carried him to the main room of the apartment and into the bathroom.
Josh took his time washing up, making sure to clean himself thoroughly from head to toe. Without rushing.
At least here, under the warm stream of water, he could detach from everything—to calm down and breathe freely. Even if only for a moment, it was enough.
Because once he stepped out of this bathroom, there was no telling what he would have to face again.
Ever since Sharon found out about his marriage, her emotions had become like an atomic bomb that could explode at any time—unstable, unpredictable.
At one moment, she might be as normal and cheerful as ever. But a second later, she could be furious just because provoked by something trivial.
Josh couldn’t blame her. Any sane woman would definitely do the same if they were in her position. Especially when the two of them had been in a relationship for almost eight years.
When he was done, he stepped out with a towel wrapped around his waist. Another smaller towel in his hand as he dried his damp hair. His feet carried him toward the wardrobe. In front of one of the sections, he stopped and scanned his neatly folded clothes. He was about to pick out a casual T-shirt and comfortable pants when—warm arms wrapped around his bare torso from behind.
He almost didn't notice Sharon walking in.
She held him tightly, pressing her cheek against his back, breathing softly against his skin. Josh remained standing still in his place. He let the girl hold him, let her cling to him as if she were afraid he would disappear.
“I missed you,” she whispered.
The various tension and problems that had occurred between the two of them had obviously exhausted her—he couldn't deny it. Ignited many quarrels, fights, prejudices, and constant suspicion. Their relationship lately only contained unpleasant things. Their opportunities to meet had also become limited and greatly reduced. And every time they were apart, Sharon’s coldness only grew stronger.
Josh, too, actually missed her very much. More than he could admit. But his mind was too cluttered with urgent matters that he needed to resolve before he could focus on her again.
He barely even remembered the last time they had spent time together warmly, pleasantly. Without worrying about anything.
“Me too,” he murmured.
A small smile tugged at Sharon’s lips. She pressed a light kiss to his back, her hands sliding lower, slipping beneath the towel.
Josh’s breath hitched. His right hand instinctively braced against the wardrobe as her fingers moved with increasing agility.
“Shouldn’t you be apologizing to me?” she suddenly asked.
Sharon stopped the activity of her hands. Slowly, she pulled back, releasing him. She looked up to search Josh's face from behind those perfectly muscled arms. Her large, doll-like eyes stared at him, filled with a manipulative look of innocence.
Then exhaled as if overcome with deep disappointment, “Forget it… I don’t think that’s necessary,” she said. Again, sighing dramatically.
Josh raised a brow.
“I mean, isn’t it your fault for leaving me? For marrying someone else? For making me suffer alone? For not needing me anymore? For throwing me away like I meant nothing?” Her forehead creased. “And yet, somehow… Now I feel like I’m the one having an affair with you.”
Josh immediately turned around to face her. He cupped her face between both hands.
“No, I’m not. Please don’t ever think like that, okay? You’re the only one I love,” he said firmly. “Yes, I hurt you. But I have nothing to do with her. It’s just business. Our relationship—will remain the same as before.”
Sharon’s eyes searched for the truth in his eyes.
“Are you sure?” she whispered, still looking at him with a sad look. “Are you sure—you won’t change? That you won’t… fall for her? That you won’t touch her?”
“Yes, yes,” Josh answered without hesitation. He leaned in, pressing a firm kiss against her lips. “Of course, I’m sure.”
“Don’t leave me… please,” she whined.
Josh kissed her again. “I won’t leave you.”
Then their lips moved hungrily against each other. Shared a burning desire. Without breaking the kiss, Josh lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the bed. He laid her down gently. His fingers reached the straps of her nightgown, pulling them down over her shoulders.
His lips traveled across her skin, leaving a trail of heat wherever he touched.
Sharon let him take control. Let him explore every inch of her greedily.
Her back arched as he got to her lower body. Lingering at her navel for a while before venturing down further and further.
Soft moans spilled intensely from her mouth—breathless and uncontrollably. Her body trembled beneath his touch, and her lips kept parting and biting gently, trying to hold back. It looked even more sensual as filled with saliva from the kisses before.
“Stay with me forever,” she gasped. “Hm... Josh…?” Her breath started heavier.
“Yes. Nothing can keep us apart,” he replied between his mouthfuls of activity, ”I promise you.”
“Josh,” her fingers ran through Josh's hair, “I was so sad… when you were with her.”
Sharon whispered, eyes fluttering shut. Her body arched even more as she felt the pleasure the man was giving her.
Josh paused for a brief moment, then moved up.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, “I’m sorry.”
No matter how many times she needed to hear it, he would say it. Over and over. Because he meant it. Because he would do anything for his girl.
“I love you, Josh,” she tried to catch her breath when Josh entered hers. She wrapped her legs tightly around his waist, following his rhythm. “I love you…”
Josh only responded with a soft hum, kissing her again, deeper this time.
“Don’t go…” Her fingers tangled in his hair as he moved faster, “Give it to me… Josh… I want to have it, have you... All of you, completely,” Her head tilted upwards.
“I’m yours, Sharon,” he whispered between his kisses, “Only yours.”
“I don’t want to share with anyone… Give me everything… Give it to me, inside of me… I want all of you…”
And so, they lost themselves in each other. Giving themselves to each other.
Over and over again.
In a night that lasted endlessly.
Ashley gasped. When she opened her eyes, she found herself still in the living room. In a very uncomfortable position—sitting with her left side of her face resting on the table. The sunlight had already poured in and illuminated the entire room through the large glass window from one end of the wall to the other. It made her frown several times because of the glare. But the bright sunlight that had risen was nothing compared to the pain that shot through her when she raised her head.A fierce, dull ache filled her neck and shoulders, radiating upwards to tingle all the nerves in her head and downward as if gripping her shoulders and back. Even after managing to sit upright, her head was still tilted to the right—it was extremely difficult and stiff to move it back to its normal position. Groans of pain escaped her lips, echoed repeatedly there, as she struggled until finally managed to make her head face forward.Even after succeeding, the groans of pain continued to slip from her m
"Huh... Um, girl..." Bella was heard exhaling lazily, "You need to remember that Mike is a grown man. There's no need to worry about him that much either.""Grown men can also meet bad people and get into trouble, right?" Ashley replied, not convinced.Bella paused for a moment and then said, "Yes, he is. But don't you see his rock-like muscles?""Why have big muscles if you can't fight? Don't you remember last year he got beat up by a high school kid?"Bella winced, then chuckled. "Ouch... If he hears it from you, his heart must be hurting."They burst out laughing together. After the laughter faded, Ashley sat down on the couch and leaned back. "The important thing is that you confirm his whereabouts and condition first."Bella's voice was not heard for a moment, "I don't think it's necessary. Ash, I'm sure he's fine—though, yeah, his words are weird."Ashley raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "How do you know he's fine when you yourself think he's weird? He's also back to NZ tonight wit
"Yes, right?""Yes.""Yes, that's also a reasonable reason, although I didn't think of it that way yesterday. But what I experienced last night was really confusing. And again, as far as I know, ghosts are not picky about places," Bella began to speak in a low tone and elongated speech. As if deliberately creating a tense atmosphere. "They can be anywhere they like. Not only in dark or dirty spaces. In fact, it is said that ghosts nowadays like to inhabit clean and luxurious places."Ashley frowned, "Nonsense. Who said that?"But Bella didn't change her expression. She resumed her speech and lowered her voice even more, "I've seen it on supernatural programs—that kind of thing. And you know what makes the most sense?" Bella narrowed her eyes, hung her words, then paused for a moment. Her eyes continued to stare at her best friend unblinkingly, with a face that was made completely serious and seemed to hold a mystery waiting to be spewed out.Meanwhile, Ashley automatically responded w
Ashley rephrased her question, "After all those long stories—you’re telling me it wasn’t a ghost that bothered you? Then what? Who?" her tone firm but tinged with disbelief and one eyebrow rose. Not that she was disappointed because her best friend wasn't being haunted by ghosts, which meant there weren't any dangerous things lurking or to worry about. Because obviously no one in their right mind would want to experience horror—whether it was real or not. But what Ashley truly felt was frustration. After being so immersed in Bella’s story and feeling the chills crawl up her spine, it turned out that the whole story was just nonsense. She was even sure that Bella herself had no idea what or who had disturbed her throughout the night. There was no certainty whether it was connected to the strange woman who had entered Mike’s room earlier."Actually... I don't know," Bella replied nonchalantly. While picking at the assortment of dishes she had ordered as if completely unaware of how tens
Ashley called the waiter to ask for the bill after Bella had finished her meal. Both of their faces were still glowing from the lively conversation they'd shared."Wait," Bella squealed, quickly taking out her wallet as she noticed Ashley slipping her card into the bill holder."No, no. Keep it. I'll take it. You're my guest here," Ashley said.Bella's lips curled into a gentle smile as she tilted her head, "Thank you," replying with a cute, playful tone and facial expression.Ashley couldn't help but laugh."This is the least I can do. I feel bad for not spending more time with you while you were here."She let out a sigh, "I should have just gone out with you and Mike instead of handling all the wedding stuff that—" she sighed again as she realized she shouldn't say so many things that could cause prejudice.Bella gave her a reassuring grin. "Hey, don't say that. You did us a favor by sending a tour guide. It was nice to walk around on our own like real tourists on vacation."Ashley
"Mr. Kwak, if you see a pharmacy, please stop and get me some headache medicine," Jason said, taking a deep breath and letting it out. "I don't know why my head feels so heavy.""Yes, sir," the middle-aged driver replied, giving a quick nod, "I'll drive more slowly."That man with a well-defined oval face with sharp but refined features loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt. Then adjusted his sitting position so that he could lean his head against the seat, and closed his eyes. Hoping the tension would ease even a little. Not long after, the car came to a gentle stop."Sir, do you need anything else besides the medicine?"Jason slowly opened his eyes, blinking away the haze, "No. I don't need anything else. That's all."The driver nodded before stepping out of the car.Jason grabbed the water bottle next to him and took a long and refreshing sip.His schedule had been brutal over the past month. A lot of work piled up. And one engagement after another, each deman
"So, this is your house?"Josh gasped. He automatically jumped to his feet when he recognized the owner of the voice he knew so well was suddenly so close."Hyung—," Josh blinked tensely. And without him realizing it his eyes instinctively glanced to the spot where Sharon had just left.Of course, Jason caught that trembling glance. His eyes narrowed slightly. It felt so good, like he had caught a big fish. And Jason couldn’t help but feel a surge of satisfaction.Intending to play a little prank on his brother, Jason only gave a small nod, "Yeah?"Josh cleared his throat, his mind racing to come up with a reasonable excuse in this crucial moment. Until it unwittingly caused brief silence between them."I—had an important meeting... with a colleague here," he thinks he managed to give an answer. Followed by an awkward laugh that escaped her mouth immediately afterward. His demeanor was stiff, and his hands were clasped together—demonstrating a very bad lie."Oh, I see. But why lie at
That day, Josh willingly complied with Sharon's every whim—going shopping, buying all kinds of overpriced treats, and patiently waiting while she indulged in endless beauty treatments. But since he had been deprived of rest and sleep for the past few days—he had to be involved in family gatherings before the wedding, drowning in work with a project deadline just three days before the wedding day, and especially the hardest part, was dealing with Sharon's relentless tantrums... the impact on his body was real. It was like he had been beaten and crushed to the bone.He spent the entire day walking from store to store, sitting for long periods, then standing again—so many times that his legs nearly gave out from sheer exhaustion. Drowsiness clung to him like a heavy fog, so difficult to endure. His life felt disconnected from his own body. Every step he took was numb. Every movement happened without thought—like he was automatically going through the motions, like he was on autopilot.Me
Ashley could immediately grasp the meaning of Josh's words just now."Why are you saying that? As if you care about my status? Even if I end up becoming a widow, that's my problem, not yours."Although Ashley knew all of Josh's long words were not completely wrong, she felt that she couldn't admit it too quickly. Her ego was currently provoked too much to be assuaged in the blink of an eye.It was true that when the idea of divorce came into her head, she was completely blinded by the anger and disappointment that attacked her in one day. It seemed natural that she would lose her mind at that time. Then when her mouth proposed an agreement, it was solely because her pride was being trampled on by Josh and his uncivilized girlfriend. So she instinctively searched for a solution to regain her strength and a way to keep her from getting even worse—and to benefit herself. And somehow divorce was the only thing that came to mind. But this proved that Josh's words were not wrong. Ashley di
Josh looked at Ashley with mixed feelings. He just realized that what he did had a serious impact on other people besides himself and Sharon. All this time, so far, he only thought that he and Sharon were the only ones suffering from being in a difficult situation that was very unfair. But as it turned out, all these things also triggered Ashley's guilt. And what Ashley said was true. The complicated relationship that suddenly had to be established between the two of them did leave a big hole in Josh's heart. He was only good at covering it up by pretending to look fine when agreeing to their marriage. Then when his relationship with Sharon came to light, the uncomfortable feeling was certainly heightened by the outburst of various other types of emotions."No, you're not. You're not an intruder. It's better not to think that way. There's no point in feeling guilty. It's all too complicated."Josh's mission was to make up with Ashley. So right now, he tried to encourage her in any way
PRESENTJosh still vividly remembers filling his days with schemes of the best he could do after the news of the arranged marriage. Her mother knew, her father also, her two older siblings probably understood him even better—that he was actually very resistant to the sudden marriage. Even if he finally agreed, they knew that he was only doing it for Sharon's sake. Because by agreeing to all the plans made and all the conditions put forward by his parents, Sharon's life would be saved. So, with a huge bravery, he was desperate to create a secret scenario behind his forced consent. He really couldn't turn away and let his family hurt the girl just like that. To him, Sharon was his responsibility that he could never let go of. There were many things he had to make sure went on as it should, just as it was, without changing a bit even if he had to pay very dearly—marrying another girl.Just imagining how to explain all that to Sharon didn't sit well with him.Even to this day, after all
But Josh still didn't move. His eyes did seem to follow the direction where his father pointed to a folder with his chin. But as soon as he dropped his gaze on the inanimate object, his imagination and hopes about the future of his life with Sharon died. The sound of his father's cell phone broke the short silence between them. After checking the identity of the caller, his father's finger slid over the button and answered briefly. A “Hello” was followed by a few “Hm-hm” and finished with “Yeah, I'll be right there.”Josh watched his father's movements from the tail of his eyes in silence. With his mouth tightly shut and head still bowed, he stared at the folder that held the record of how his life story would end.The man who had almost the same facial lines as Josh glanced at the woman beside him for a signal. The woman, Josh's mother, nodded while flashing a faint smile.“Don't try to make trouble, or even spoil it,” the old man stood up as he straightened his suit, "We've already
After carefully watching Ashley's gestures, facial expressions, and the look in her eyes, Josh was finally able to translate what she meant. His mouth then automatically formed the letter ‘Aah’ as a response that he understood. Then, Josh tried to hold back and postpone everything he had planned before—looking for Ashley because he wanted to continue their conversation yesterday. Although it couldn't be denied that the intense turmoil in his head, in his chest, at the base of his tongue—all of them—wanted to be spewed out and resolved as soon as possible, just to alleviate the suffocating pressure caused by the pile of problems with the other party. Which had not been resolved at all, but rather grew, and grew. But no matter what, he still has to be able to control himself. In order not to be caught off guard by something that could harm him as it has in the past. He, also, had to be calm. That way, he would be able to see the big picture of the position at least, after the unknown wo
Josh woke up in a much better condition than before. As his consciousness rose to the surface, and his eyes peered open, he could feel the fatigue that had previously settled over his body had now vanished. Perhaps not entirely, but it was enough to make him feel lighter and more comfortable. He turned her head to the side—just because before going to bed he remembered Ashley was there—and found emptiness. The lighting in the room was also still the same as last night, the curtains were still closed, and it was so quiet. It certainly piqued her curiosity, about how long he had fallen into a deep sleep and what time it was.Slowly, he got up from the bed and sat himself on the edge. Then he swept his gaze across the room as he recalled where he had last placed his cell phone. After a few careful head turns, his eyes found the phone lying on the coffee table by the window.Josh then stood up and walked towards the location of his cell phone. Intending to check the time and if there were
There was no need to think too hard right now, because no matter how hard he tried, his thoughts kept spinning in the same endless vortex. There was no light at the end of the tunnel. Nor did there seem to be any easy way out. Everything was dark—as if he were trapped alone in a labyrinthine abyss, with no light, no clues, no hope of escape. The more he sped up his running, the more he amplified his screams, or the more desperate he was to find the exit... all he found was the deeper he got lost.Maybe he didn't need to solve everything right now. Maybe, tomorrow, he would find a miracle—something that he hadn't thought of yet.Josh decided to clean himself up after sitting there for a while.Still only half-aware of his actions, he wandered toward the master bedroom. It was pure instinct—a reflex from his body seeking the most natural place to rest. Even after Josh realized he was standing in front of the door, he didn't immediately turn around or back away. He didn’t panic. He just
Tonight Josh was forced to return to his own home. After his very intense conversation with his mother, it was clear that he didn't dare to go straight back to Sharon's apartment. In fact, he was unsure whether he should be determined to stay away from Sharon for a while, or whether he should be stubborn enough to meet her secretly as usual. Which of course came with consequences that were far worse than before. If he took the first option, compromised with Sharon and kept their distance—even though the girl would explode in anger and refuse to part with him without listening to any reason, as he had tried in the past—maybe he would be able to delay a little time to find a way to get back together with Sharon without having to worry about any sanctions. But if he took the second option, by continuing to prioritize Sharon and breaking his own promise—which he had even said with a face full of guilt less than an hour ago—then, he really had to be ready to accept a punishment that would
"Yes. Interesting, isn't it?"“That brother of yours seems really stupid, huh.”"He's just blind. That girl is very good at clouding his common sense. Sometimes I wonder what it is about that girl that makes Josh cling so tightly, as if he’s incapable of letting go—as if her presence is inescapable. Like it's impossible to let go of the shadow," Jason paused."That girl is like a leech, Mr. Lim. That's why your brother has a hard time letting go of her. Just like a person with a severe addiction, for him she acts as both a parasite and a source of opium."Jason was quite impressed by the former journalist's reasoning and judgment. He couldn't disagree against it—because what she said was so true. Her words were disturbingly accurate."You sound like an expert. No wonder you used to be such a great journalist.”“Used to be? What about now?” Jinah’s voice held a tinge of irritation."Of course you've become more skillful and professional. If you weren’t reliable, I wouldn't have reached
