Kyle King
‘I told you not to let anyone in except those on the visitor list. Can’t you take simple instructions?’ I asked, staring coldly at Sharon, the new assistant my new-found buddy, Jones at Planet O, had hired. I Sharon stammered, ‘I am sorry, sir, but she claimed to be your girlfriend, and before I could stop her, she was in already.’ The object of my anger—Ava—laughed, showing her straight, long legs. ‘Calm down, Kyle. She didn’t do anything wrong by allowing me in. I am your girlfriend after all.’ I glared darkly at her and refocused my attention on Sharon. ‘Next time she comes in here, you will lose your job. Leave.’ She muttered an apology underneath her breath and scrambled out of the office. I would also have a discussion with the security team about Ava. She had been stalking me everywhere since I forced my mom to make her leave three months ago. ‘What do you want, Avaline? You've got five minutes to spill the beans.’ I said, folding my arms. She smiled, placing her legs on the table. I noticed she didn’t wear anything under. My suspicion was right. She was up to no good. ‘I wanted to drop by and keep you company. You have been visting my dreams at night, so I figured that was you calling me.’ I shook my head, glancing at the clock. I had a meeting with an important client in forty-five minutes, and I wanted to be in the best mood to receive him. That was the reason I hadn’t yelled and grabbed Ava out of the company. ‘You are insane and an obsessive brat who doesn’t know when to give up. This is the last time you will come into my office, Avaline. If you ever lie to my secretary and breeze in like you own the place, I will get a restraining order on you. Is that clear?’ She stood up, smiling darkly. ‘You shouldn’t threaten me, Kyle King. I made you who you are today, so I deserve some respect.’ I replied in a deceptively calm voice. I was really trying to be cool. ‘You did nothing to help my name or business but suck me dry. I have an important meeting, so leave, or I would call the guards to escort you out. I guess that will make a good headline, won't it?’ She moved closer, smiling seductively. ‘I am not bothered about trending these days. Prison can do a lot for you, you know? I haven’t forgotten how you threw me under the bus all because of Tessa, but that will be a story for another day. Right now,’ her fingers trailed my shoulders, sliding onto my biceps. ‘I want you, and I know you want me. Stop denying me, Kyle. I know you still have feelings for me.’ Of course. Only if she wished. I grabbed her hands before she moved bolder. ‘Don’t push me, Avaline. You had enough fun for today, so leave.’ She struggled with her hands. ‘You’re hurting me, Kyle. Let me go!’ I smiled darkly, tightening my grip on her hands. ‘I am in this collected mood because of the meeting; if not, I would remind you why I am known as Kyle King. You have had enough freedom—stalking me like I am your favourite pet and showing up at events—introducing yourself as my wife—that stops today, okay?’ She let out a cry, a tear dropping. ‘This is assault, Kyle. I will sue you!’ I chuckled, letting her go and grabbing her neck—she wasn’t too fast. ‘Do you think anyone would believe an ex-convict word against a multimillionaire?’ I saw shock in her eyes. ‘Yeah, I grew my wealth while you warmed the cell. I control some notable brands in Nashville and other cities. They have been doing well with no sucking she-devil to destroy them’ She choked while breathing. ‘Kyle…please. I can’t breathe. I promise..’ I let her go. ‘Leave now, Avaline, and stay away from me.’ She sucked in air, breathing harshly and rubbing her neck. I could see my fingerprints on her wrists and neck. Good. ‘My parents would know about this, Kyle, and this isn’t over!’ I laughed. ‘You won’t try anything, nor will your parents. Do you know how you're still able to afford this lavish lifestyle?’ She looked up, curiosity written all over her face. ‘What do you mean?’ ‘Go ahead, report to your parents, and do whatever you want, okay? I will be here waiting and watching when the thunder strikes on you.’ She scoffed. ‘You earn a few bucks and become a multi-millionaire, and you think you are some mafia don't I should be scared of? I have connections too, so don’t scare me.’ I smiled. ‘Alright, my meeting is in five minutes. Should I call the guards, or are you leaving?’ She hissed and slammed the door behind her. I laughed. Sometimes, you had to become the devil to scare your enemies. The meeting went better than I expected. I was able to compose myself after Avaline’s visit, and thanks to a cup of hot coffee, my adrenaline stayed put. After dropping off some instructions for Sharon, I drove home. I had a call date with Tessa by seven o’clock. We had been having beautiful conversations for the last few months, and it had become our ritual to speak from seven to nine o’clock every day. We texted during work hours, but the conversation made us closer, and I enjoyed the thrill of her voice. Her laughter. Jokes. Stories. They made me sleep better at night, and I did everything not to miss them. Like closing early from work, unlike most CEOs I used to know. Myself included. One hour later, I arrived home, jumped out of the car, and was so occupied with my phone that I didn’t notice a shadow before me until a hand slugged my head, and I fell immediately. I tried to keep my eyes open, but the blows kept coming until I passed out.Kyle KingI tried to open my eyes, but the pain surging from my head made me close them immediately. There were voices. A familiar one I hadn’t heard in awhile. No. It couldn’t be her. I was probably dreaming, or the blows to my head had done more damage to my brain. I tried to stay awake to listen to the voices, but I slowly lost consciousness.I felt a calm hand on my wrist and slowly opened my eyes. The room was bright, and I squinted to adjust my eyes to the light. There was a face looking expectantly at me. Mom. No, not Mom. She was truly here, and I wasn’t dreaming. Tessa.‘Finally, you decided to wake up. We thought you were enjoying the unconscious stage.’ Tessa said, smiling.I tried to get up, but the pain at my side made me rethink my decision. ‘You’re really here. I thought I was dreaming.’She smiled, holding my hands. ‘Xavier showed up at my office and told me what happened
Geneveive Tessa RobertMy parents had been against me travelling to Nashville with the kids to see Kyle, but I had to stand on my ground and make them understand that I needed to be there in his darkest moments. He was also the father of my children, and it was necessary that I be by his side.Mom had been angry, but she was able to convince Dad to let me go. However, I had to go with one of Dad’s security men. An ex-Navy officer. Mr. Hover. He had an intimidating air around him, and his blank face made people think twice before approaching him. I agreed because he was different with the kids, and they liked him.He also provided extra security because I knew coming to Nashville wasn’t the best idea due to my status, and I added my family’s too.I stared at Kyle as he slept. He looked like an angel, with his dark hair, brown eyes, and chiselled face chiselled in a charming way. I always suspected God took extra time creat
Kyle KingThe cops scribbled in their notes as I retold the incident from the beginning to the end. They stopped me at certain points to get specific details on the environment, and I almost got pissed when they asked about the shadow’s clothing. The attacker had come fast; how could I have gotten what he wore?‘Do you have any suspects on your list? You are the city’s biggest CEO at the moment, and we are certain you would have gotten a lot of threats.’ One of the cops asked. His face reminded me of Homer Simpson.I shook my head. ‘Yeah, the threats are usual things in the business world but are mostly threats. Empty threats. My competitors wouldn’t dare pull a fast one on me because they know it will be bad for them.’
Geneveive Tessa RobertI downed the second glass of red wine and sighed for the fifth time. I should have rejected Xavier’s invitation to the grand opening and just stayed home with the kids. I sent a text to Estella to know if they were asleep. I stared at my screen, waiting for her response, while my mind roamed and focused on a particular curly, dark-haired, gorgeous man. These days, my thoughts are always about him.He must be asleep by now. We had talked earlier today before the cops came. He seemed better, but the doctor hadn’t cleared him to leave until the weekend. He wasn’t pleased. No one would be happy staying in the hospital for one month and one week. He hated not doing anything or being vulnerable. I comforted him, and he relaxed a bit. He couldn’t wait to be out and take over his CEO role. He didn’t say it though, but I could see in his eyes each passing day as Xavier told him eve
Kyle King‘I can't believe I am out of that place finally! I almost lost my mind staying in that room and watching those boring comedy shows.’ I said, entering the house.Dr. Clark had lived up to his promise and cleared me to leave the hospital. I was expected to come in for biweekly check-ups due to the blows to my head. There was no serious damage, according to him, but he was afraid that I might have a relapse. I hoped none of that happened.Xavier grinned. ‘But you had beautiful nurses fighting to take care of you. Too bad, your mom’s scowl pursued them away.’I laughed, remembering a funny drama that happened between my mom and one of the young nurses. Mom had caught her taking a selfie with me while I was asleep. Mom had to warn them off and instruct Dr. Clark to allow only the older nurses. If only she knew they were desperate like the young ones.‘Let’s not talk about that episode, Xavier. The older nurses almost made me regret my gorgeousness. It’s not easy being this handso
Geneveive Tessa RobertKyle’s home reminded me of our memories. Every step I took reminded me of a particular event we shared. I paused in the doorway, looking at the photos on the wall. They were the pictures of the kids, Kyle and me, at the Christmas dinner at my parents home. I didn’t know he collected a copy from James. Nice surprise.I walked into the living room. The interiors had changed, and I noticed a few of Dahila’s touches. She had a thing for plastic and real flowers. I ran my hands through the rich texture of the couches and settled on one. Kyle was still living the CEO’s life. He walked in with the kids. ‘What do you think?’I smiled, glancing at the walls. ‘You need my expertise on your interior choices. Also, I am impressed with the photos.’He let go of the kids and settled near me. ‘I will employ your services soon, and about the photos, I wanted to surprise you. Do you like it?’I nodded, glancing at the kids. They were engrossed with the cartoon show playing on t
Kyle KingThere was nothing like fulfilment. You know when you have been trying to accomplish a particular purpose and the obstacles keep coming up until you want to give up, then, suddenly, there is a light. You find a solution to that purpose, and you accomplish it. Tessa’s change of heart was the purpose that I had finally accomplished. It served a purpose, but it was worthy of my celebration. I hadn’t expected her coming to Nashville to bring good tidings, but it did. I replayed the conversation in my head as I scrolled through the documents. Xavier left my desk. Remembering Tessa’s voice made the task easier, and I couldn’t help but smile until a voice interrupted me. I looked up, staring at the bald executive who had the guts to interrupt my ‘alone’ moment. I had forgotten for a minute that I was in the middle of a meeting and they were awaiting my verdict on a project we expected to execute as the official project of Planet O for the quarter year. ‘Is there something in the
