CHAPTER 158

Kyle King

I walked into her building, but the receptionist blandly told me she was busy with meetings. I dialled her number several times, but she wasn’t picking. I sent her numerous texts, pleading and informing her I was at the reception. She didn’t reply.

I decided to wait until closing hours. She doesn't stay cooped up in her office all day. If she still kept to her schedule, I know by two p.m., she always drove over to her house to check up on the kids and Estella. I winked at the stiff security guards as I settled at the reception. They wouldn’t dare to disturb me because they knew my status. I scrolled through my phone as the early moment with Avaline replayed in my mind.

I was going to start with her family. I will reduce them to dust and then ensure their family’s name becomes history. I sent a message to my Russian ethical hacker: Whenever I wanted to do dirty deals, I didn't want trace to my name. I used him. He knew how to walk into an encrypted bank account, drain them, and leave no trace behind. He was swift like a fox, tricky like a tortoise, and a genius.

I instructed him to transfer all the funds in their accounts to a charity organisation they had a feud with. That would make them trendy and will also crumble their empire. That was what I wanted.

After texting him, I moved to Xaviers’s number and started a conversation with him. I needed to update him on Avaline and also know the latest findings from the cops. I was still mad that they let their guards down on Avaline. I was going to have a word with their chief officer once I returned to Nashville.

Xavier: What happpened? I’ve been trying to reach you since yesterday. The cops have arrested the culprit.

Oh goodness! I responded, hoping it was Avaline. I got abducted by Avaline. She made me miss the twins birthday. Who did the cops arrest?

My phone rang immediately. Xavier. I picked up, smiling. ‘Hey, man. Believe it or not. I didn’t miss you. How’s Nashville and the companies?’

He replied, laughing. ‘I know you have missed me, but no need to tell me. For the companies, everyone is missing you and wants you back, but I had to remind them that you are working on King’s headquarters new site.

I heaved, remembering I needed to check up on the project supervisor tomorrow. ‘Thank you for taking charge, Xavier. So, who’s the culprit? Avaline?

He replied. ‘No, she isn’t the culprit but an accomplice. Remember that executive who you never liked? Mr. Monty? Turns out Avaline used him to get back at you.’

I whistled. ‘I wasn’t expecting that. He came to my office before I travelled, and we had a little quarrel. I can’t believe he was right under my nose. That snake!’

‘I can’t believe it too. I thought the differences you guys had stayed in the office, but he had to be the pawn in Avaline’s crazy game. She’s still in London, right?’

I nodded, forgetting he couldn’t see me. ‘Yeah, the last time my men checked, which was a few minutes. When are the cops coming for her? Also, inform them about the abduction and how she drugged me.’

Xavier chuckled. ‘I told you Avaline wasn’t the right choice back then, but you didn’t listen. Anyway, the cops are working with the London police to apprehend her and send her to Nashville to face her charges. She will be in jail in no time.’

'Great, and this time around, her parents won’t have the funds to bribe the judicial system. I have taken care of that aspect.’

‘What did you do, Kyle?’ He asked, alarm rising in his voice.

I replied. ‘I took care of their financial problems. I have to go. Tessa will be out any minute from now.’

He laughed. ‘Good luck in convincing Tessa that you didn’t intentionally miss your children’s birthday party. I will call you once there is a new update on the case.’

I cut the call, returning my glance to the receptionist. She had been stealing glances at me ever since I settled on the couch. Did Tessa ask her to watch me? Obviously. Tessa was probably waiting for me to leave so that she could avoid seeing me. I returned my focus to my phone and made a few calls to the Planet O executives, informing them about Mr. Monty’s betrayal and crime.

I also sent the human resources team to send him a sack letter and a warning to show up in the company again. For the sake of dark humour, I pulled up some incriminating photos of him and two hookup girls having a ridiculous threesome. I sent it as a mail to the biggest gossip magazine in Nashville and London. Monty’s family were popular here too.

I smiled, erasing traces from me, and slid my phone into my pocket. By the time he finds out what I have done, his image and status will be beyond redemption.

‘Hello. I wasn’t expecting to see you here. ‘ A familiar voice said, Turn my head immediately. The woman who had made me rush through the shower and break a lot of traffic rules was standing behind me with a hard stare. I rose up immediately.

‘Tessa. I am sorry for not showing up for our kids birthday party. Something happened, and I don’t know if you would believe me if I told you.’ I said, staring into her brown eyes.

She shook her head. ‘Follow me, Kyle to my office and we will talk about it. This isn’t a place for personal discussions.’

I nodded, following her like a chirpy puppy. I had almost given up on seeing her in the office or seeing her ever again. All because of Avaline. Thank goodness I had been smart to hire the Russian hacker when Xavier recommended him. Avaline would be so sorry when she discovered what I had done to her family.

So sorry.
