Genevieve Tessa Robert
I knocked lightly at the door, opened slowly, and walked into my parent's large library. They had invited me for a meeting after James informed them about my night with Kyle. I rehearsed my speech and reminded myself why I had forgiven Kyle and revealed who he was with the kids.
My dad was scrolling through his phone while Mom was laughing at something on her phone. They were seated on the long couch, ignoring my entrance until I settled near them.
‘Good afternoon, Mom and Dad. I got your message. But firstly,’ I took Mom’s phone. ‘Aren’t you supposed to be on bedrest?’
She folded her hands, pouting. ‘The doctor cleared me yesterday, and I decided to chill with my husband. Is that bad?’
I handed the phone back. ‘Alright. It’s not bad, then. So, why did you guys request my presence here this afternoon?’
Dad dropped his phone, sitting up. ‘Welcome, dear. I will go straight to the point. I called you because of Kyle. I thought we agreed that you wouldn’t be returning to that man. Don’t forget he didn’t show up for his children’s birthday party. What man doesn’t show up for his kids a special day?’
I rubbed my palms, gathering my thoughts. ‘Okay. We never agreed that I wouldn’t return to Kyle but that I wouldn’t date him until I was certain he'd be back for good. Also, I forgave him because he genuinely apologize for missing out on their birthday. Do you Avaline abducted him on that day?’
Mum shrugged. ‘We heard about it. We just want you to be careful with him. Kyle might be Nicholas and Hope’s father, but that doesn’t make him your man. I still have reservations about him.’
‘He isn’t my man, Mum. I am just being accommodating as you advised, and Dad, you don’t have to worry about me; I am being more careful than before. I don’t want to get burned twice.’
Dad nodded. 'Okay, but be careful with him. He was attacked before and will be attacked again. He’s one of the world’s best young CEOs. His enemies won’t hesitate to attack you and the twins.’
‘The guards and chauffeur have been instructed to be alert at all times, Dad. We will be fine. Also, I can bring Kyle over for dinner so that you guys can throw in your questions about my safety.’
‘No, that will be unnecessary. How’s Hoplas Design?’
I smiled, liking the change of conversation. I was already getting tired of convincing them about Kyle’s true nature. They still believed him to be the man who broke my heart six years ago and also the man who stole from them. Break the Robert's trust once, and you will spend an eternity trying to fix it.
I filled them in on all the projects I was working on and also the profits accumulated for the month. I wasn’t impressed that some of the jobs came from a particular client who had been making irritating advances at me. The man would do anything just to see and speak with me.
I didn’t tell my parents about him because I knew how easy it was for them to erase him from London’s list of living residents.
We moved to the kitchen to have lunch, and then Dad held a virtual meeting with all the managers and announced James' official departure to Arizona. I was amazed by their reactions, and after the call, I brought it up as we watched a movie.
‘I didn’t know Kyle was well loved and known among the employees. The managers changed my perspective about him, Mom.’
Mom threw a handful of popcorn into her mouth, chewing carelessly. ‘Your brother is a beautiful genius, dear, and the managers always strive to meet up to his expectations. They live for his approval, Tessa.’
I sighed. ‘I feel jealous, but I am proud of him. My little brother has made something out of himself. It’s a shame I am going to miss him. He has been so supportive, and the children have grown used to him.’
Dad cleared his throat, staring at me. ‘I am glad that we took the decision to send him to that business school, and he became serious. I don’t want him to go to Arizona, but we need a force to control those offices over there.’
‘I will miss him anyway. Where’s he though? He didn’t show up at my house for three days!’
Mum replied. ‘He’s in Luxembourg. He travelled for business training and would be back next week. Are you missing him already?’
I shrugged, focusing on the movie. ‘He hasn’t been picking up my calls or responding to my messages. I was worried, Mom.’
She laughed, ‘It’s fine. I won’t tell him you were missing him so much when he returns. Would you be staying over?’
I shook my head, remembering my piled-up work activities and midnight call conversation with Vera. The kids were staying with Kyle for the week, so I wanted to enjoy the house before they returned. Estella and I really needed the quiet and stillness of the atmosphere.
‘No, I will be returning home. I have a lot of pending work activities I need to take care of, and there’s the call conversation with Vera. I haven’t been able to check up on her due to work.’
Mom nodded, taking my hands. ‘Alright, send my love to Vera and her baby. It’s been awhile since we saw her, though.’
‘The doctor hasn’t cleared her yet, but she’s recovering. I really can’t wait to see her out of that gigantic castle.’
Dad chuckled, ‘You know their house isn’t really a castle but an ancestral home, right?’
I shrugged, taking a handful of popcorn. ‘I feel it’s still a castle. Their home is so large and filled with rooms no one is using. I have told them to get a condo and rent that place. It reminds me of the Victorian era.’
‘Never judge the book by the cover, dear. Their home is their choice, just like Kyle, who is your choice. Let’s respect that, okay?’
I bit my bottom lip as I withheld the argument, begging to sprout out. I couldn’t believe she likened Vera’s house with Kyle.
Kyle KingIn the mirror, I stared at my eyes. I always thought they lacked the spark seen in other people’s eyes. But, after Tessa teased me about having the brightest eyes she had ever seen, the spark somehow emerged. I washed my face and returned to my bedroom. Today was the last day of King’s company headquarters construction. The project manager had been hard-working, and his team was perfect. They had executed everything according to the construction team plan, although there were some hiccups on the way, but we were able to scale through.I scanned through my outfits, and my eyes rested on a blue shirt with a love emoji at the side. Tessa had gotten it for me a few days before my decision to divorce her six years ago. I never had the courage to throw or wear it, but every morning after she left, I would stare at it like it was a reminder of what we had. My hands lingered on it as I remembered the kiss we had shared when she came to pick up the kids yesterday. She had been reluct
Genevieve Tessa Robert‘My parents still believe I made a wrong mistake introducing Kyle to the kids. They don’t think he has truly changed, and I tried convincing them, but it was futile.’ I said, stretching my body on the mat beside the pool. Vera raised her head a bit. ‘You should know the Roberts by now. They never liked Kyle and will never like him. I think they are just tolerating him because of the kids.’I agreed. ‘If not for the kids, I am certain they would have scared him off and warned me to stay away from him.’‘Did you tell Kyle about it?’I nodded. ‘Yes, I have, and he wants us to meet with my parents. I declined. I don’t think it’s a wise decision yet. We’re still friends for now, and I am yet to decide if I want to go further with him.’She laughed, looking at me. ‘But you enjoyed his lips on yours, right? Honestly, I like the baby steps, but a man can’t wait forever, you know?’‘Kyle King would wait for me even if it takes years for me to decide. He’s obese and in l
Kyle KingPlanning a perfect date was always a nervous activity for me because I had to ensure everything was perfect and tailored to my partner’s taste—in this case, my partner was Tessa, and she deserved to be treated perfectly well. I glanced at the table as the housekeeper helped arrange the dishes properly and set the tablecloths. I glanced at her work and nodded my approval. This was going to be a perfect date. I rushed into the shower, and a few minutes later, I was out. I picked a casual outfit—a Ralph Lauren shirt and black jeans. I ran my comb through my black curls. I mentally noted to check in with a barber across the street to reduce the fullness of my hair. I preferred it to be moderate and looking shabby or rough. After a quick view of my appearance, I strolled out of the room and settled in the living room, waiting for Tessa and the kids. I had wanted to take them out, but Tessa preferred a house date. She also felt it was right; the kids came. They were missing me e
Geneveive Tessa RobertI took the blanket from Kyle’s quiet housekeeper and covered the twins. I hadn’t planned on sleeping over, over, but the kids had fallen asleep after our third monopoly game. I kissed their cheeks and followed the housekeeper out. Another reason why I hadn't wanted to sleepover was Kyle.He had stirred my feelings with his call conversation on my way here. Lately, I had been struggling with admitting my feelings for him because I was afraid of envisioning a future with him. Would Kyle give me all the happiness I wanted in life? Would he wake up one morning and demand a divorce because I couldn’t give him more children? children? ThereThere was also Dahila. I didn’t want to think about what Vera had insinuated about her always having an ulterior motive for everything she did. I shrugged, entering the living room. I would also have to talk to Kyle about his mom and suggest a truce. If I was going to accept it into my life finally, Dahila and I needed to sort out
Kyle KingFive months laterAfter sorting Avaline’s court case, I officially named Xavier the CFO of Planet O. The board accepted him with no grumblings, and I wasn’t surprised because he had been performing well even in my absence. I also took Mom to London, and we finally had a peaceful conversation with Tessa. Mom apologized for everything she did in the past and present. She also acknowledged the kids as her grandchildren. Tessa had been happy and didn’t hesitate to draw Mom into a hug.We scheduled a dinner with Tessa’s parents to officially declare my intentions. I had married Tessa the wrong way years ago, but now I wanted to do right by her. Her parents had been stiff during the dinner at first, but Tessa was a beautiful instrument in converting them to accommodating individuals. Mom also carried on the conversation by being herself, and before long, she and Mrs. Roberts were laughing like old pals. During a sleepover with kids at my place, Tessa had suggested we move in toge
Genevieve Tessa Roberts I was fidgeting. I heaved a deep sigh and pulled the hem of my dress to cover my knees. Taking a glance at the wristwatch strapped to my wrist, I noted with great angst that it's been over twenty minutes since the Doctor walked out of the room on an excuse to get back to me soon. Sighing again, I rubbed my palms together before picking up my phone to check if I had any missed calls or anything of the sort but nothing stood out to me. I started to put my phone away when the door opened and I stopped and turned toward the woman that had walked in. Sitting up in my seat, my eyes followed Doctor Brown’s movement till she finally settled back in her seat which was right in front of me, separated by a huge desk that had a bunch of stuff I wasn't interested in on it. “Sorry for the long wait, Mrs. King. Here is the test result.” She smiled softly before handing me the results. I hesitated for a second, my heart leaping with what I didn't know as I eyed the unse
Genevieve Tessa Roberts My body stopped moving but my fingers didn't. I stood there, eyes wide with disbelief and apparent shock as I listened to my husband, Kyle go on and on about a lot of things I was too shocked to decipher. He was talking to Xavier, his childhood best friend who had always been in our lives. I had no idea what to say to that or what to think. My heart must have died on the spot because I suddenly found it hard to breathe. Grasping the fabric of my coat, I willed myself to take in deep sharp breaths but it was extremely hard. All I felt was pain. Excruciating pain that rendered me numb. “But, do you really think that you need to do that? Maybe you should take more tests or consider another option. IVF? Surrogacy?” Xavier was talking, asking the mother fucker I called my husband. “IVF, we have already done and concluded. Nothing's worked out. My mother would have my head at the thought of surrogacy. You know how uptight she is and how she wouldn't bend to the sc
Genevieve Tessa Roberts I laid in bed quietly with tears in my eyes, waiting. Five years that I'd been married to Kyle and I'd never received that level of disrespect. The disrespect was too much. I couldn't take it and the more I thought about it, the more the tears wouldn't stop flowing. I hated to think for even a second that it was because of me that this was happening. I knew exactly the time Dahlia and Katherine finished dinner and left. I also listened as he went straight to his study instead of coming to the room. My heart clenched. The Kyle I had married would have come into the room to check on me. Scratch that, he would have cautioned his mother the moment she opened her mouth and came around to check up on me to see if I was okay. The more I thought about it all, the more it hurt and it got increasingly harder for me to stop the tears. Kyle finally walked into the room at around two in the morning. The room was dark but I watched him move about, shuffling things and arra
