Geneveive Tessa Robert
My parents had been against me travelling to Nashville with the kids to see Kyle, but I had to stand on my ground and make them understand that I needed to be there in his darkest moments. He was also the father of my children, and it was necessary that I be by his side. Mom had been angry, but she was able to convince Dad to let me go. However, I had to go with one of Dad’s security men. An ex-Navy officer. Mr. Hover. He had an intimidating air around him, and his blank face made people think twice before approaching him. I agreed because he was different with the kids, and they liked him. He also provided extra security because I knew coming to Nashville wasn’t the best idea due to my status, and I added my family’s too. I stared at Kyle as he slept. He looked like an angel, with his dark hair, brown eyes, and chiselled face chiselled in a charming way. I always suspected God took extra time creating Kyle because his handsomeness was beyond ordinary. The bandage around his head didn’t even hide his gorgeousness. I traced my fingers at his chin and stopped myself. I should control myself. I was in a hospital, not in my private chambers. A nurse could come in and wonder what I was doing with a semi-conscious patient. The door opened suddenly, and I retracted my fingers. I jerked my head as my nemesis walked in proudly. Dahila King. We had never liked each other, or better yet, she had never liked me because of my family’s status and how much Kyle loved me. When I arrived, she had been so hostile to me and the kids that I was almost tempted to leave at once. I stayed and ignored her presence, and she did the same. All communications were through Xavier, and I loved it. The woman was just a witch. A modern-day witch with no brooms! ‘Did he wake up while I was away?’ she asked, dropping Gucci’s bag. The latest collection. Dahila King was also a woman of style. I looked at the room, wondering if she had forgotten our arrangement. We weren’t civil or friends, so why was she suddenly talking to me? I pretended not to hear her. She sat near Kyle’s bed, staring at me. ‘Okay, I am sorry about the way I treated you when you came two weeks ago. It was uncivil and unkind of me. Please, forgive me.’ I laughed. ‘So, you’re apologising because you want me to respond to your question. Very clever, Dahila. You should wait until Xavier comes. He would let you know about your son’s progress, or you can ask the doctor, okay?’ She rolled her eyes. ‘I would do just that. Why did you come here, though? Kyle clearly doesn’t want you here, and I don’t want you either.’ ‘That’s what you think, Dahila. Your son loves me, and you are pained about it because he chose to listen to his heart and not you.’ I smiled, shaking my head. ‘You are a jealous woman, and you should work on your attitude before it kills you, okay?’ She stood up, laughing harshly. ‘Jealous? You make me laugh. I can never be jealous of a woman who threw herself at a man who didn’t love her, and she is back again, begging for his love. You’re pathetic, Tessa.’ I chuckled, holding my sides. ‘You really don’t know the full story. Your son followed me everywhere until I agreed to let him see his children. He begged me until I agreed to go out on dates with him. So, who is pathetic? Anyway, the reason I am here is because I care for him, just like he does for me, but you won’t understand because you are immune to love.’ She hissed, walking closer to me. ‘Once Kyle is okay, take your leave and don’t return.’ I stood up, rolling my eyes. ‘You can’t tell me what to do, Dahila. If Kyle doesn’t tell me to leave, I won’t leave.’ She said nothing and stormed off, closing the door with a bang. I laughed, focusing on Kyle. He was wide awake, grinning. Oh, dear! He must have heard our conversation. I swallowed, avoiding his gaze. ‘I didn’t know you were awake, Kyle. Did we wake you up?’ Kyle smiled. ‘Yes, you and my mom were pretty loud. You finally stood up to her, Tessa. I'm proud of you.’ I looked up, surprised. ‘You aren’t angry? I was disrespectful to her.’ He shook his head. ‘You weren’t disrespectful. She had no right to talk to you like you didn’t deserve to be here. I am going to have a word with her once she returns. She needs to learn how to respect you and my children.’ ‘You will stand up to your mom for me and the kids?’ I asked, still amused. Kyle had always been afraid of his mom. He would do anything to impress her. Standing up to her was huge. ‘Yes, I would do that for you.’ he laughed. ‘I am going to do everything to win you back, Tessa, and if it means finally putting my mom in her place, I am already going to do it. You know it’s because of you that I was able to stand up to her and get full ownership of the King’s Company?’ ‘Kyle King, we have a dinner date scheduled for next week, so get well fast.’ He smiled sheepishly. ‘Oh, Tessa. You don’t know what you do to me.’ I smiled, listening to him as he talked about how he took over the King’s company and his mother’s reaction. We talked about the kids birthdays and my business. He offered advice on a taxation issue I had and also helped me review a business plan for a project I was working on. It was a fulfilling day, especially dealing with Dahila King.Kyle KingThe cops scribbled in their notes as I retold the incident from the beginning to the end. They stopped me at certain points to get specific details on the environment, and I almost got pissed when they asked about the shadow’s clothing. The attacker had come fast; how could I have gotten what he wore?‘Do you have any suspects on your list? You are the city’s biggest CEO at the moment, and we are certain you would have gotten a lot of threats.’ One of the cops asked. His face reminded me of Homer Simpson.I shook my head. ‘Yeah, the threats are usual things in the business world but are mostly threats. Empty threats. My competitors wouldn’t dare pull a fast one on me because they know it will be bad for them.’
Geneveive Tessa RobertI downed the second glass of red wine and sighed for the fifth time. I should have rejected Xavier’s invitation to the grand opening and just stayed home with the kids. I sent a text to Estella to know if they were asleep. I stared at my screen, waiting for her response, while my mind roamed and focused on a particular curly, dark-haired, gorgeous man. These days, my thoughts are always about him.He must be asleep by now. We had talked earlier today before the cops came. He seemed better, but the doctor hadn’t cleared him to leave until the weekend. He wasn’t pleased. No one would be happy staying in the hospital for one month and one week. He hated not doing anything or being vulnerable. I comforted him, and he relaxed a bit. He couldn’t wait to be out and take over his CEO role. He didn’t say it though, but I could see in his eyes each passing day as Xavier told him eve
Kyle King‘I can't believe I am out of that place finally! I almost lost my mind staying in that room and watching those boring comedy shows.’ I said, entering the house.Dr. Clark had lived up to his promise and cleared me to leave the hospital. I was expected to come in for biweekly check-ups due to the blows to my head. There was no serious damage, according to him, but he was afraid that I might have a relapse. I hoped none of that happened.Xavier grinned. ‘But you had beautiful nurses fighting to take care of you. Too bad, your mom’s scowl pursued them away.’I laughed, remembering a funny drama that happened between my mom and one of the young nurses. Mom had caught her taking a selfie with me while I was asleep. Mom had to warn them off and instruct Dr. Clark to allow only the older nurses. If only she knew they were desperate like the young ones.‘Let’s not talk about that episode, Xavier. The older nurses almost made me regret my gorgeousness. It’s not easy being this handso
Geneveive Tessa RobertKyle’s home reminded me of our memories. Every step I took reminded me of a particular event we shared. I paused in the doorway, looking at the photos on the wall. They were the pictures of the kids, Kyle and me, at the Christmas dinner at my parents home. I didn’t know he collected a copy from James. Nice surprise.I walked into the living room. The interiors had changed, and I noticed a few of Dahila’s touches. She had a thing for plastic and real flowers. I ran my hands through the rich texture of the couches and settled on one. Kyle was still living the CEO’s life. He walked in with the kids. ‘What do you think?’I smiled, glancing at the walls. ‘You need my expertise on your interior choices. Also, I am impressed with the photos.’He let go of the kids and settled near me. ‘I will employ your services soon, and about the photos, I wanted to surprise you. Do you like it?’I nodded, glancing at the kids. They were engrossed with the cartoon show playing on t
Kyle KingThere was nothing like fulfilment. You know when you have been trying to accomplish a particular purpose and the obstacles keep coming up until you want to give up, then, suddenly, there is a light. You find a solution to that purpose, and you accomplish it. Tessa’s change of heart was the purpose that I had finally accomplished. It served a purpose, but it was worthy of my celebration. I hadn’t expected her coming to Nashville to bring good tidings, but it did. I replayed the conversation in my head as I scrolled through the documents. Xavier left my desk. Remembering Tessa’s voice made the task easier, and I couldn’t help but smile until a voice interrupted me. I looked up, staring at the bald executive who had the guts to interrupt my ‘alone’ moment. I had forgotten for a minute that I was in the middle of a meeting and they were awaiting my verdict on a project we expected to execute as the official project of Planet O for the quarter year. ‘Is there something in the

Geneveive Tessa RobertVera!I yelled, rushing towards her. I hadn’t seen her since I arrived in Nashville. She was looking more beautiful than before and healthier. I suspected Murphy had pampered her more than expected. She hugged me, emitting the scent of lavendar oil. ‘I’ve missed you so much. Murphy refused to drive me over to your house yesterday. Where are the kids?’I helped her to sit comfortably on the couch. ‘They are at my parent's place. As soon as they returned home from school, Mom sent James to pick them up. They have stolen my kids from me.’She chuckled. ‘At least, you have the house to yourself until their birthday party. You’re done with all the preparations?’'Yes, and Kyle is returning tomorrow’s night. You know it’s his first time attending the children’s birthday, and he doesn’t want to miss it.’‘I never thought I would see the day Kyle King would become a soft heart. Did you guys talk about your relationship status?’I nodded, remembering our conversation. ‘
Kyle KingThe pilot’s voice woke me up from a pleasant dream. I stifled a yawn as the old woman sitting beside me casted a hateful glance. I smiled widely, irritating her the more. Few hours ago, she accused me of being the lover who jilted her daughter. I didn’t even recognize the daughter when she shoved the picture at me before the plane took off. I tried to explain myself but the old lady was adamant and kept telling whoever cared to listen about how I had dated her daughter, given her a ring and disappeared. All I could do was listen and shake my head. When she noticed I wasn't going to argue with her anymore, she settled with throwing me hateful glances and I reciprocated with wide grins. ‘I hope someone breaks your heart just as you did to my daughter and you have several sleepless nights too!’ the old lady said, rolling her eyes as she took off her seatbelts.I sighed, tired of the false accusation. ‘Ma, I am sorry your daughter got jilted but like I told you a few hours ago
