Kyle King
‘I can't believe I am out of that place finally! I almost lost my mind staying in that room and watching those boring comedy shows.’ I said, entering the house.
Dr. Clark had lived up to his promise and cleared me to leave the hospital. I was expected to come in for biweekly check-ups due to the blows to my head. There was no serious damage, according to him, but he was afraid that I might have a relapse. I hoped none of that happened.
Xavier grinned. ‘But you had beautiful nurses fighting to take care of you. Too bad, your mom’s scowl pursued them away.’
I laughed, remembering a funny drama that happened between my mom and one of the young nurses. Mom had caught her taking a selfie with me while I was asleep. Mom had to warn them off and instruct Dr. Clark to allow only the older nurses. If only she knew they were desperate like the young ones.
‘Let’s not talk about that episode, Xavier. The older nurses almost made me regret my gorgeousness. It’s not easy being this handsome, you know.’ I winked, falling on the couch.
He shook his head. ‘A proud and arrogant man. I am not surprised. You can never change.’
I smiled. ‘I don’t know how to change. Anyway, what are we having for lunch? I'm starving!’
‘The chef is arranging the table, hungry man. Tessa will be coming over later, right?’
I nodded. ‘Yeah. She will be staying overnight with the kids. She wants them to have enough time with me before she leaves on Monday. Hoplas Designs needs her. You know she’s been here for a month now.’
‘She’s a good woman. I hope you don’t mess this up again.’
I sighed. ‘I won’t, I promise. After everything she has done—standing up to my mom and dealing with Dahila—I am going to do everything to become more than friends with her.’
Xavi laughed, pouring a glass of water. ‘I will be here watching, then. If you mess this up, I will personally deal with you. Tessa is everything, and if you break her heart again, Kyle, our friendship will be over.’
‘No need to threaten, brother, because I won’t be breaking her heart again. It won’t happen, trust me.’ I replied, turning my head to the shadow joining us. The chef.
‘Welcome back, Mr. Kyle. We missed you. The table is set,’ he said.
I nodded and refocused on Xavier. ‘The cops want the camera footage of the porch. They believe it will help in the investigation.’
‘I thought they were working with your hint. The sports car? Haven’t they gotten back to you?’
I shook my head. ‘No, they haven’t. They haven’t been able to trace the sports car, and they believe I might have gotten the wrong plate number.’
Xavier replied. ‘Or the person changed the plate number. Did they question Avaline again?’
‘They did. She claimed I was trying to pin my incident on her because of her criminal history. Her parents warned the cops not to come over to their house until they had substantial evidence.’
‘We will get the person, Kyle. They can’t hit you, so stay scot-free. Let’s eat.’ he said, helping me up.
After lunch, we returned to my library and focused on work activities I had missed for the month. There were also emails I needed to reply to and a meeting I had to conduct with the executives of Planet O. We moved to the living room to check the camera footage on my laptop, but it was wiped.
‘I thought you said no one had access to it. What do we do now? The cops will be here in a minute.’ Xavier groaned, clicking on the footage again.
I ran my fingers through my hair. ‘I don’t know what happened. Let’s check the camera to see if it’s still working.’
‘Click on the camera and let’s see.’ Xavier said.
I clicked, and everything going on outside the house was on display. ‘I think someone messed with the footage, and there’s only one way we can figure that out. Follow me.’
We returned to the library and retrieved a tiny camera hidden in the bookshelf. ‘Here. It’s connected to my second laptop.’ I said, retrieving the laptop from the desk drawer. ‘I placed the camera after I got Planet O. You can’t trust anybody, you know?’
Xavier nodded, watching me. ‘Clever, Kyle. If we can find out who cleared the footage, then we know who our suspect is. It could be the same person or they’re working together.’
I logged into my laptop, scrolled to the CCTV link, and logged in. The footage popped up after a few searches. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Xavier laughed. ‘There you have it. Let the cops handle it, Kyle. Don’t do anything stupid.’
I shook my head, disbelief written all over my face. ‘I will let them handle the case. I just can’t believe it. Anyway, I should have seen this coming.’
My phone buzzed. A message from Tessa. She was on her way.
‘I will drive over to the station to drop this and explain the situation while you prepare yourself for Tessa.’ Xavier said, taking the camera and my laptop and leaving the room.
I sighed. It was always the people you least expected who betrayed you, or in my case, attacked you. I closed the library door and returned to my room. Being caged in that hospital room made me realise how much I should appreciate life and family, especially Tessa and my kids. She had brought them every day, ignoring the murmurings of my mom and ensuring they had enough time with me. She also brought lunch sometimes and made all of us eat as a family. I enjoyed those moments and was glad when she suggested the kids do a sleepover here.
She wanted the kids to be comfortable with me, so informing them about my true position in their lives would be easy and acceptable. I agreed with her. They were young but smart, and they were aware of why I left Tessa. She didn’t want them to see me as the heartbreaker father or dad who abandoned them.
Geneveive Tessa RobertKyle’s home reminded me of our memories. Every step I took reminded me of a particular event we shared. I paused in the doorway, looking at the photos on the wall. They were the pictures of the kids, Kyle and me, at the Christmas dinner at my parents home. I didn’t know he collected a copy from James. Nice surprise.I walked into the living room. The interiors had changed, and I noticed a few of Dahila’s touches. She had a thing for plastic and real flowers. I ran my hands through the rich texture of the couches and settled on one. Kyle was still living the CEO’s life. He walked in with the kids. ‘What do you think?’I smiled, glancing at the walls. ‘You need my expertise on your interior choices. Also, I am impressed with the photos.’He let go of the kids and settled near me. ‘I will employ your services soon, and about the photos, I wanted to surprise you. Do you like it?’I nodded, glancing at the kids. They were engrossed with the cartoon show playing on t
Kyle KingThere was nothing like fulfilment. You know when you have been trying to accomplish a particular purpose and the obstacles keep coming up until you want to give up, then, suddenly, there is a light. You find a solution to that purpose, and you accomplish it. Tessa’s change of heart was the purpose that I had finally accomplished. It served a purpose, but it was worthy of my celebration. I hadn’t expected her coming to Nashville to bring good tidings, but it did. I replayed the conversation in my head as I scrolled through the documents. Xavier left my desk. Remembering Tessa’s voice made the task easier, and I couldn’t help but smile until a voice interrupted me. I looked up, staring at the bald executive who had the guts to interrupt my ‘alone’ moment. I had forgotten for a minute that I was in the middle of a meeting and they were awaiting my verdict on a project we expected to execute as the official project of Planet O for the quarter year. ‘Is there something in the

Geneveive Tessa RobertVera!I yelled, rushing towards her. I hadn’t seen her since I arrived in Nashville. She was looking more beautiful than before and healthier. I suspected Murphy had pampered her more than expected. She hugged me, emitting the scent of lavendar oil. ‘I’ve missed you so much. Murphy refused to drive me over to your house yesterday. Where are the kids?’I helped her to sit comfortably on the couch. ‘They are at my parent's place. As soon as they returned home from school, Mom sent James to pick them up. They have stolen my kids from me.’She chuckled. ‘At least, you have the house to yourself until their birthday party. You’re done with all the preparations?’'Yes, and Kyle is returning tomorrow’s night. You know it’s his first time attending the children’s birthday, and he doesn’t want to miss it.’‘I never thought I would see the day Kyle King would become a soft heart. Did you guys talk about your relationship status?’I nodded, remembering our conversation. ‘
Kyle KingThe pilot’s voice woke me up from a pleasant dream. I stifled a yawn as the old woman sitting beside me casted a hateful glance. I smiled widely, irritating her the more. Few hours ago, she accused me of being the lover who jilted her daughter. I didn’t even recognize the daughter when she shoved the picture at me before the plane took off. I tried to explain myself but the old lady was adamant and kept telling whoever cared to listen about how I had dated her daughter, given her a ring and disappeared. All I could do was listen and shake my head. When she noticed I wasn't going to argue with her anymore, she settled with throwing me hateful glances and I reciprocated with wide grins. ‘I hope someone breaks your heart just as you did to my daughter and you have several sleepless nights too!’ the old lady said, rolling her eyes as she took off her seatbelts.I sighed, tired of the false accusation. ‘Ma, I am sorry your daughter got jilted but like I told you a few hours ago
Geneveive Tessa RobertKyle spent two days at my place, and I enjoyed every moment with him. We visited the Thames, famous museums, and Buckingham Palace. I grew closer to him as we talked and dined together. He also followed me to visit Vera at her place. He flowed easily with Mercy-Vera’s baby girl, and it amazed us.I commented on it when we left, and he hinted that he has been reading a lot about parenting in preparation for the kids. He wanted to know more about what was expected from him as a father. He didn’t know, but those words drew me closer to him. I didn’t want to fall deeply though because my head kept reminding me that he was just a friend and nothing more. I couldn’t fall in love with him yet. But a bit won’t hurt yet.I stretched on the bed, ignoring the alarm. I had a long day ahead. The twins' birthday was today, and there were a lot of activities I needed to supervise to ensure everything went well. Kyle would be coming to help after he was done with his supervisio
Kyle KingMy bed felt larger than it was. I turned, touching a warm body, and quickly recoiled my hands immediately. I opened one eye and then shot up from the bed. This wasn’t my room, and the body was a female. The scent is so familiar. No. It couldn’t be her. She’s supposed to be in Nashville.A chill ran through my body as I realized I was in my briefs. What happened? Oh no. The kids birthday. I had missed it! My head was in shambles. Without thinking twice, I rushed towards her.‘What did you do?’ I dragged her from the bed, not minding that she was still asleep. She yawned, her eyes smiling. ‘Kyle, this isn’t the right way to wake up a girl from her beauty sleep. What’s the issue?’I glared at her. ‘Start talking right now. How did I get here and what did you do?’She pulled her hands from my grip. ‘Wow. The sleeping pills must have done more damage than I expected. Anyway, you are in a family’s house and still in London. Don’t you remember how I came to your house as you were r
Kyle KingI walked into her building, but the receptionist blandly told me she was busy with meetings. I dialled her number several times, but she wasn’t picking. I sent her numerous texts, pleading and informing her I was at the reception. She didn’t reply. I decided to wait until closing hours. She doesn't stay cooped up in her office all day. If she still kept to her schedule, I know by two p.m., she always drove over to her house to check up on the kids and Estella. I winked at the stiff security guards as I settled at the reception. They wouldn’t dare to disturb me because they knew my status. I scrolled through my phone as the early moment with Avaline replayed in my mind. I was going to start with her family. I will reduce them to dust and then ensure their family’s name becomes history. I sent a message to my Russian ethical hacker: Whenever I wanted to do dirty deals, I didn't want trace to my name. I used him. He knew how to walk into an encrypted bank account, drain them,
