“You shouldn’t have asked her that.” I heard Freya say to her brother as soon as I walked out of the room.

“Why? It was a truth game, and I asked a simple question.” Alan replied, his voice causing me to halt in front of my door. “She is a grown ass girl and should be able to answer that very simple question.”

My fist clenched at my sides for not just his reply, but also the tone he had used to say it, so I turned back to the room.

Both siblings turned to the door when they saw me, but instead of saying anything, I walked to the spot I had previously vacated and sat down again. Then I turned to look at Alan who still had the same look on his face when he had asked me the question.

“No, Alan.” I replied, my voice curt and cool. “I do not hate your mother.”

“Then, do you like her?”

“I thought it was one question at a time?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at him. He offered me a sinister smile afterwards, before raising his hands in surrender.
