“Luke?” Ophelia stuttered, her mind was rejecting what her eyes saw.

Her brother looked up at her when she called. It wasn’t longing or gratefulness that lingered in his eyes when he recognized his long-lost sister, it was hate and loathe. Almost as if the sight of her made him sick to his stomach.

He was taller and broader now than he did 6 years ago. His features were sharper but he still held a strong resemblance to the Luke in Ophelia’s memories. There was no doubt about it, this was Luke.

Her brother Luke.

Ophelia sank deeper on her knees completely defenseless in front of the same man she shot in the leg. Ryan took a step forward to stop her but Garelt intercepted him and yanked him back. When Ryan turned to protest, Garelt just shook his head.

“Give her some space,” Garelt muttered in his ears.

“But that couldn’t be her real brother,” Ryan exclaimed in silent anger. “He is a threat to all of us!”

“My brother is no threat to anyone!” Ophelia said in a fit of rage, tu

The one-night cry ended up being several ones. It proved to her that one night was not enough to let out all she had accumulated inside her, and the happenings didn’t stop happening. Day after day there were meetings with several people from all over Glaham. However, they were all too busy fixing and managing the wrecked estate first before handling other things. They tended to the wounded and held funerals for those they had lost. The estate was painted black in mourning for the precious wolves they had lost. Noah and Luke were still sleeping since that night. Ophelia couldn’t blame them because if she was in their place, she wouldn’t want to wake up either. But she prayed for them to wake up for at least a minute to know they were alright. Sarah reassures her every day that their vitals are all good, and their wounds are healing well. There was no specific reason for their lack of consciousness for 3 days. “My Lady,” Ophelia snapped out of her trance to stare at her bedroom d

“So now first things first.” Alpha Everett started after the order was applied to the room. Ophelia took her seat on Bernard’s right as Lord Everett led the meeting as the council’s head. She could still feel Silas’s glare at her, but she ignored it along with the others. She reminded herself of Ryan’s words, she needn’t worry. All she has got to say is the truth. She did hope Bernard had prepared her for the type of questions awaiting her, she felt like she was running amid a battlefield with nothing but but her clothes to protect her.“We start with what happened six years ago,” Everett continued, shifting his gaze to Bernard. “How did the princess get here and was it before or after the night of the arson?”“It was the time of the arson,” Bernard answered, he required no time to think, the events were vivid to him as if it were yesterday. “Noah found the princess in the woods the night of the arson, that is when she started staying with Moonglade.”“Then how did you come to know a

“My Lady, it seems your brother has awakened.” Ophelia had to hold back herself from jolting to her feet amid the meetings, but she couldn’t help her shoulder from tensing up. Many things exploded in her mind at once. Relieve fear doubt and hesitation. Now when she stands in front of her brother, it won’t be with weapons in their hands but their scars. The old scars they both have. They were each other’s biggest scars. Ophelia hadn’t the slightest clue what happened to her brother when they separated six years ago. But, she was sure he wasn’t as fortunate as she was considering the way they met. All these years, he has been held captive. Now, she held him captive. “Ophelia?” Bernard whispered, extending his hand to lightly brush over hers. She snapped out of her trance recalling where she was. She held her head up to continue the conversation with Priscilla, the council was waiting for her next words. “I’ll leave you all to think of the answer to the question Lady Priscill

“You are to blame as much as them! Don’t you dare bring up our family!” Ophelia was still as she absorbed his words. Rather than disappointed or angry, she was curious. Luke has made sure to point out his hostility to Ophelia and label her a stranger to him. If she didn’t know better, she would’ve thought he had his memory wiped out. But that didn’t seem to be the case. She stared at his rage-filled eyes with caution. He had a fire in him that threatened to engulf her at any given moment. But if he remembered one thing about her, he should remember that she didn’t fear getting burned. “Luke, I understand that you have had a hard life these six years,” she said, breathing heavily. “ But I’ll not allow you to doubt or shame the way I’ve lived my life either.” “Oh, please,” he scoffed in mockery. “Don’t get it started.” “If I may remind you, it is you who started this,” Ophelia said, irritation finding its way to her. “You were the one who attacked us! “Carrying on,” Jone said, breaking the tension. “Let’s start with what happened six years ago first.” The council didn’t seem to be pleased that Jone was taking charge of how things would go, but they didn’t protest either. They wanted the whole truth even if it meant allowing a mortal within their circle. “Most of you wouldn’t know but,” Jone started, leaning back in his chair proudly. “I was among the few people who knew about the princess’s identity.” Ophelia shared a look with Jone. She never knew how Jone came to know about her. But she did recall the first time they met in the hallway and how carefully he studied her as if she were a diamond. Now that she thought about it, he must have known the moment he laid eyes on her. In some sense, she was indeed a diamond to him. A tool to grab the upper hand. Yet, he never betrayed the Alpha. Ophelia couldn't understand him. “And no,” he said, anticipating the question hanging in the air. “Back then I did not know about the Crescents

“Is E.V.I.L’s President’s family.”Jone’s words were the last to conclude the council meeting. The Alphas of Glahams weren’t pleased, to say the least. A few words from a mundane made their efforts for the past six years go to waste. Not only that but, his statement was the proof they needed to label E.V.I.L as the culprit for the arson. All it took was one human to figure out what they couldn’t find all these years, and this fact didn’t seem to be settling as well as it should have. But perhaps their shame held them back from denying or protesting with Jone. Jone did them a favor by unveiling the hidden truth. They hated to be proved lacking in this way.But Ophelia wasn’t worrying about their face before Jone. All she could think of were

The hot bath worked like magic to erase not only the dirt but also the worries of the day. Sarah filled in the bathtub for Ophelia the moment she got back. The water temperature was a little higher than what she usually preferred but it didn’t bother her. The sting of the hot water on her bare skin was pain she enjoyed, it took her mind off of things she rather not think about again. But, every now and then she saw images of her brother, the way he looked at her this morning. The feeling that he was going to jump at her at any given moment kept her on edge even now. She wondered how he was doing now and what he did after she left. Did he think about what she said to him? She wondered. She wasn’t bluffing about the truth serum, she hoped he believed her. If he wasn’t going to talk, the council would make him talk. They were already doing him a favor by waiting till now. Bernard was right about his words but, to what lengths? How much is Ophelia’s influence on her brother after all

The way to Noah’s room felt longer than it usually took. She halted by the door wondering if Noah was already up and around behind this door. She placed her hand over her chest to calm her beating heart. “Oh, Lady Claudia,” Ryan said, bringing Ophelia back to the present. She turned to look at the other end of the hall. The Omega, Claudia was as perfect as ever. The moment she saw Claudia she was flooded with the sweet smell of pheromones. She took a quick glance at Ryan and if he was feeling something, he was doing a good job at hiding it. “Good evening,” she said, bowing deeper than usual to Ophelia. Perhaps it’s because of Ophelia’s new title now, Princess of the Crescents. She couldn’t help but notice the way Claudia quickly scanned her at first glance. Ophelia was now a little…different from what Claudia was used to. Now that she thought of it, this was the first time she had run into Claudia since the night of the attack. It has been a year since 18.6.2024…The day Ophelia’s life had taken a turn forever. It was hard at first to keep on living, to be the only survivor it got to her harder than ever since all hope had vanished with the day she set E.VI.L on fire. However, time proved to be stronger than any sensation that lingered after that accident. She soon began to overcome it all. Though she never forgot. But it didn’t hurt as much anymore. Having Noah and Luke by her side made it all easier since she focused on preserving what she had left rather than what she had lost. She was sure that would be what her clan wanted her to do. She lived on carrying their memory with her every breath. “Ophelia!” She snapped out of her trance to return to reality. Luke hovered over her as she crouched down before her parent's graves. It was summer now, the snow melted and the sky above was clear. The birds sang atop the trees behind the graves of the Crescent. Flowers sprouted beside her parent's graves in s

The ocean spread vastly around the yacht in all directions. The horizon line turned dark blue as they sailed away from Glaham. The sky weaved with the water in perfect harmony. There were little to no clouds in the sky. It had been raining cats and dogs the past few days. She appreciated the sun today. Ophelia took a seat on the roof of the yacht, it was all in white, the metal, the fabric, it all gave a sense of serenity with the sound of crashing waves against the boat’s belly. Luke on the other hand couldn’t decide if it was better on the roof or the deck, and in his pursuit, he climbed up and down over a dozen times. Finally, when they were halfway through their journey, he decided to settle next to his sister, his pale features were paler as he sat with a loud thud.“All is good?” Ophelia asked raising an eyebrow, offering her pack of chips that she saved from her brother’s wrath. Luke waved her off and gagged. “I think I’m getting sick.”“I told you not to eat too much before

Later after Ophelia left Noah, she headed to her room to change into something more comfortable for the long way ahead. It would take them almost half a day to reach the organization according to Luke’s statements. They will take a ship from the shores of Encford. Ophelia recalled Margret, Enzo’s daughter. News of the Alpha’s death has probably reached them by now. This whole trip was to fulfill her promise to Enzo, to get the medicine needed for his daughter’s survival. Alpha Laura promised to do her best to study the medicine and replicate it if possible. Aside from the promise, she wanted to see what it was like for Luke there, and the other Crescents. During Luke’s interrogation, he mentioned that some Crescents were still held captive by the organization. Ophelia held back from having any hope at all. It has been a long time since their capture, there was no knowing what changed in them during these years. She was able to bring back her brother, deep down she wanted to save

The last gift…As Noah told her earlier, he was present for his father’s funeral. Ophelia never got the chance to attend funerals except for her clan's.But she was sure they were meant to be more crowded than this. It was her, Noah, and his parents, Merrick, Oswald, and Hero. No one else came. No one wanted to be here. The Council only approved this burial as a thank you to Noah for being a hero. Ophelia didn’t judge them, she would be lying if she said she felt sorry for Dustin. She was here because of what it meant to Noah. He wanted to bury a part of him with Dustin. Lock it all underneath the wooden lid of the coffin, and deep into the ground. Perhaps then, it would make his heart feel lighter. It was raining lightly now in the woods, the sky was paid actor as it shed tears over all those they had lost, the water droplets puttered against the leaves above their heads in a steady rhythm. Noah chose to bury his father on the flat land next to the lake. He hated this lake, alway

Rain…The rain continued for the next two days. The sun shined behind the dense clouds, its rays escaping through the gaps to illuminate the destruction of Glaham. The horizon was a thin line of smug and debris. The rain puttered on the leaves of what remained of nature and the trees. The once bright and soothing woods ringing the mansion now resembled a ghost city. Ophelia stood at her window, the rain drizzling down her window heavily. Her heart ached at the state of Moonglade, it reminded her of the time she returned to the Crescents after the arson. The destroyed homes, the blood-soaked streets, and the bone-chilling cold. Her eyes refocused on her reflection in the window. She looked tired. Her platinum white hair was tied up behind her head, her eyes were red-rimmed with lack of sleep, and dark circles reached her cheeks. She was dressed in a black button-up shirt and a black skirt. All the black brought attention to her tired and wary pale face. Whenever she closed her eyes to

She felt the ecstasy wash over her. In her hand, her power took form. It materialized from thin air into the most beautiful sword Ophelia lay her eyes on. The blade dazzled as it caught the light, it seared in the smug air, as if a star fell from the star right into her hands. The metallic hilt wrapped around her hand and wrist gracefully like satin. The sword was light in her hand, she felt it pulsating in her palm as it came alive.
