Hard Times

The last thing I wanted was to see the two of them fighting. I didn’t understand why all of this was happening today of all days. They stared at each other as if they were about to kill each other, and if that happened, I didn’t know how I’d separate them. As soon as Daon saw the marks on my neck, he seemed to grow suspicious of Jayden, and I couldn’t understand why he was acting that way. So, to try to avoid a fight, I positioned myself between them and looked at Daon, trying to draw his attention to me.

“What are you implying, Daon?” I asked, challenging him, and his gaze wavered uncertainly between me and Jayden, who stood there with his tattooed fists clenched.

“I just find this story really strange! You’re ‘attacked,’ and coincidentally, Jayden was there,” Daon muttered in a sarcastic tone, as if insinuating something.

“He wasn’t there! I was attacked, and when the assailant was about to take me away, Maryna jumped on his neck and almost tore off his ear!” I explained, irritated.
