Surrending

Dealing with Daon's mother was nothing compared to the whirlwind of emotions I'd been handling over the past few days, but it was still difficult. I rolled my eyes, unsure how to hide my dissatisfaction upon seeing her there, and only when I looked at her did I notice she was arm-in-arm with Louyse.

"Mom, please don’t start!" Daon warned her with a weak smile on his face, gripping my hand more firmly when I tried to step away.

"Start what, my son? I’m here on a peace mission. I was talking to Louyse, and the more I talk to her, the more certain I am that you two were born for each other." His mother gestured to the younger woman, who smiled as her cheeks flushed, pretending I wasn’t even there.

"Don’t say that, you’ll embarrass me," Louyse replied shyly, though it was clear she was enjoying it.

"It’s the pure truth, dear. I still have faith that my son will open his eyes and see you’re the ideal woman for him. Nothing would make me happier than seeing you two together," his mother ins
