Silent Fears

In my husband’s arms, I felt safe, and he didn’t seem to tire of holding me, keeping his body pressed against mine. He kissed every part of my face, as if still unable to believe I was there. The police officer looked at me with suspicion and, after a while, approached me.

“Mistress Lee, I’ll need to take your statement,” he said, his lips pursed in disapproval.

I wasn’t in the right headspace for this. I just wanted to go home, take a shower, and lie down in bed, even though I knew that after learning of Bobby’s plans, I wouldn’t be able to sleep, worrying if he’d harm one of the two men in my life. Daon noticed my reaction and turned to the officer.

“Can’t it wait? She’s tired, and I’d like to take her home,” Daon asked, and the officer stared at me as if analyzing my behavior, which started to irritate me.
