What we were

The discovery of the present did not change the past. We suffered, we separated, and it was over, but looking into the eyes of the man I once loved, I realized that things weren't so simple. He was still trapped in the past, and because of that, he would always hinder any possibility of a future I planned.

"This must have been my mother’s doing! So, you loved me," he concluded, smiling for a moment amid the tears, and my heart ached. "And you still love me!" he continued, and my eyes burned as the urge to cry consumed me.

"Bobby!" I sighed his name, and he seemed to get irritated, making me shrink back as I watched him close his eyes, trying to control his anger.

"You know I hate it when you call me by my name," he growled through gritted teeth.
