Elena’s POV

That night, I confronted Daniel. "Why didn't you tell me about Alex?" I demanded, my voice shaking with emotion.

Daniel sighed, looking tired. "I was trying to protect you, Elena. I didn't want you to get hurt."

"Protect me from what?" I asked, my voice rising.

Daniel hesitated before speaking. "Alex and I...we have a complicated history. We're in a dispute over family assets."

I narrowed my eyes. "That's not all, is it?"
