I was in a rush because I had gotten up late yet again. I've never gotten up on time, geez.
When the bus came to a halt in front of me, there were a lot of people going inside, and I couldn't get in because of the crowd.
With a frown on my face, I walk backwards to allow them to pass.
Why did I get terrible luck when I was born?
I checked my watch and realized that waiting for another bus would make it difficult for me to make it to the interview on time.
Running is easy for me because I wear flat sandals.
People who bumped into me were ignored as I ran. A number of individuals have voiced their displeasure with my actions, but I haven't had the opportunity to apologize to them yet.
On my way to the bookstore, I bumped into an older gentleman.
During my fall, my documents landed on the floor in a puddle. Fudge!
The dude simply stared at me and went away as if he didn't notice anything. I got up and removed my sandals.
When my sneaker collided with his head, I said, "Beng." He came to a complete halt, as did the crowds around us, and slowly turned his body to me.
Why do I feel like I'm about to turn into a frozen corpse in a matter of seconds?
Should I just wait for a bullet to make a hole in my body because his aura is quite powerful and he gives off mafia vibes, shocks.
"Why did she do that?"
"Gosh, she's insane!"
They're whispers mean nothing to me right now, while my heart is beating. I can feel my hands trembling, too.
Fudge, what's the matter with me?
''Does this sandal belong to you?'' Because of his powerful aura, my throat felt dry.
What's next, Sel?
Then I said, "Yes."
In spite of his sunglasses, he put my sandal back down on the floor, put his hands in my pocket, and I felt his eyes scanning my entire body.
He's dressed in a long black coat, a tee, and trousers. His hair is neatly styled, and his shoes are gleaming. Imagine you're in front of a mafia boss, and this is how he seems.
"So, why did you throw that at me?" he inquired.
I cleared my throat and took a proper stance. I took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes.
"Is it difficult to help the person you bumped into or simply say'sorry'?" I asked him again.
When he smirked and adjusted his sunglasses, I felt my heart pounding again.
He didn't help you, Sel, despite how hot he was.
"Why? Did you apologize to the people you bumped into before this happened?"
To his question, I parted my lips. How did he find out?
"What?" I insisted as if I didn't know anything.
"Of course not. It's clear that you're in a hurry, "he said again, crossing his arms.
"That is a different situation! I can't work on them one at a time because, as you mentioned, I'm in a hurry "I argued my case.
I also point out my documents, which are now wet and useless as a result of him.
"And my documents for my interview are now ruined, and you haven't even apologized?" I added with a sarcastic tone.
He looked at me as he picked up my drenched documents.
"So you're enraged over this garbage?"
"What?! Trash?!" I was ready to seize his head when the papers were thrown in my face.
Everyone laughed, so I took it away and gave that dude a death stare.
"The next time I see you, I'm going to kill you!"
I went to a coffee shop to use their restroom. Because I was covered in muck, I washed myself.
My interviewer, Ms. Perfiana, kept calling me.
I texted her, apologizing for missing the interview and requesting that it be rescheduled for the following day.
She responded yes, but I only had one more opportunity tomorrow.
I rolled my eyes as I noticed how sloppy my appearance had become. Fortunately, I'm not wearing a white blouse, or am I? That guy was already a frozen corpse.
My phone rang out of nowhere. Raven's name was displayed.
"Yeah?"
[I know you're on the bathroom right now; come out and take this blouse I bought.]
A crease appeared on my brow.
How did he figure out I was in the restroom of this coffee shop?
I hung up the phone and turned to face him.
He's standing in front of the restroom with a bench paper bag in his hand. Because he was on his phone, I was the one who approached him first.
"How did you find out I'm here?" I inquired. He smiled at me and handed me the paper bag, which I gratefully accepted.
"I saw you earlier, the man you were arguing with threw those muddy papers at you," he explained. While scanning the bag, I simply nodded to him.
"I'll wait for you there," he said, pointing to a table.
"Okay, I'll change my clothes."
I enter the restroom and change my clothes.
"The shirt fits you well," he said as he walked around my body. I noticed my favorite cake and coffee flavor on the table.
"Yeah, you have good fashion taste, by the way," I complimented him.
He gave me a simple v-neck shirt that goes with my black denims. My hair was styled in a messy bun.
"Oh, I ordered your favorite cake and coffee," he said as I sat down.
"How did you know?" I asked.
"Haxilla told me before."
I nod; I'm not in the mood to talk much. I'm exhausted, fudge.
We've been silent for a few moments. Aside from the fact that I'm not in the mood to talk, I also enjoy my meal.
While I'm eating, I can feel his gaze on me, which makes me feel uneasy.
"Just say it," I said while eating.
He sighed, placed his elbows on the table, and stared at me intently. As if if I told a lie, he would kill me in an instant.
"What's up with that stare?" I inquired, somewhat nervously.
"Tell me everything about your childhood," he said solemnly.
I couldn't help but laugh, so I mimicked his posture and smiled at him.
"I thought you'd ask if I'd kill that guy," I joked, but he didn't laugh or even smile.
He takes his responsibilities very seriously.
I sighed and spooned my cake.
"I've been living with my nanny Karen since I was five years old, and all I remember is that my parents have a business in Bharain," I tell him, recalling my lonely childhood.
"And?" he inquired, expecting me to elaborate on my past.
"Since my nanny Karen abandoned me without a word when I was seven years old, Haxilla's family adopted me because I don't have any way to communicate with my parents," I explained.
My chest tightened as I recalled that day.
"Karen, nanny? Nanny?" I called her several times, but no one answered.
I'm too afraid to be alone, and yaya Karen is the only person who is always there for me.
"Karen, Nanny!" I screamed while crying.
To calm myself, I hugged my stuff toy. As I walked down, a loud thunderclap forced me to sit and cover my ears.
"Nanny Karen," I sobbed.
I was about to continue my story when I noticed Raven crying and staring at me.
“Why are you crying?” I asked. I handed him my handkerchief right away, but he shook his head and wiped his tears with the back of his palm.
"Karen, your nanny, did you see her again? After a year or a decade, I mean? "He inquired.
While sipping my coffee, I shrugged.
"After that day, I never saw her again; some say she's already dead, but I don't believe them. There's no doubt in my mind that Nanny Karen was a strong and courageous woman." I gave him a friendly grin and a nod.
"And what about your parents? You don't want to see them any longer?"
I gave him a bitter smile and shook my head.
"I've given up hope that they'll come back for me after Nanny Karen abandoned me. It's been nearly two decades, but not even their shadow has appeared "My tears were about to fall, so I looked up to stop them.
"You despise them?" he inquired once more.
"I want to, but they're still my parents, even I put the world upside down, they always the one reason why you're talking to me now."
"Your beautiful mindset and soft heart made you even more beautiful," he said, his gaze fixed on my eyes.
What? Why did he say that out of nowhere?
I'm not sure how to respond to his compliment; it's a little awkward.
"Ah, I need to go now, it's my schedule today to buy some groceries," I said, attempting to avoid the awkwardness that was forming between us.
"Do you want to ride in my car?" he asked, but I declined.
"I'll leave now if you don't mind. Thank you once more for the shirt."
I immediately exited the coffee shop.
While pulling my cart through the mall, I'm walking. Raven's compliment has stayed with me since I first heard it.
"Sel, what's your problem? It's merely a compliment, after all." While picking up a tissue paper, I mumbled something to myself.
Perhaps it's just that I'm not used to receiving such praise from folks I've just known for a short time.
I let out a sigh and wheeled my trolley over to the snack aisle.
I was ready to make a turn when I noticed a familiar face approaching.
He's the one that flings the papers in my face!
He's with a flirty bitch, which is nasty, ew.
I changed my route to avoid him; if we ever cross paths again, it'll be war.
I hurriedly paid for all of the groceries and walked out.
"How did your interview go?" Britanny inquired as she opened the door.
"Failed." I simply replied.
She came to a halt, a worried expression on her face.
"Why? I thought you were on their short list?"
When I tossed my body onto the couch, I realized how exhausting my day was.
"Wait, you were wearing a red shirt when you left; how come you came home wearing a white shirt?" she inquired.
"Raven bought me this, and my shirt has mud on it, so I threw it."
She didn't ask me again, maybe she noticed how drained I was.
Haxilla returned home late that evening. She's on the phone again, like she usually is.
I drew in a little closer to my door to hear what they were saying.
"Simply deposit the funds into my account; I'll receive them the next day."
I heard her sneakers walking left and right again after she paused for a second.
"It's impossible for me to stop her since she's so stubborn. If that's what she's thinking, I know she won't believe me."
Why do I have the impression that Raven is the one with whom Haxilla converses every night?
Because they have a history, it isn't impossible.
Everything fell silent once more, and I was about to open my door when Haxilla resumed her conversation.
"I'm scared that if she knew, she wouldn't be able to handle things, especially if she came across something that could trigger her sentiments, but it's also reassuring since she'll figure it out on her own," Haxilla said.
I heard her walk inside her room. I walked out of my house and opened my door to hear more of their chat.
I know it's not proper, yet my curiosity compelled me to find out more.
"I'm not sure, Britanny is also taking herself back if she wants to tell something about her history, I'm sure she doesn't know anything else now, save what she said to you."
I took a step back as I pondered what Haxilla had said.
Is it true that she converses with Raven?
"Finally, we met," Ma'am Perfiana said as we exchanged handshakes. "Yes, I'm really apologetic for the previous day; my documents got bogged down in a muddy puddle," I stated. Her face was filled with both confusion and worry. "Why? What went wrong? "She inquired as she prepared her laptop for the interview. "I got bumped by a jackass, grr nevermind," I joked, and she laughed as well. We're seated on a bench outside the company, which is unusual for a job interview. "By the way, ma'am, does the job interview have to take place within the company?" I inquired. "Look at the spot where we are," she replied with a smile. Only a few folks were walking there when I looked around. Unlike outside of a company, there is a low population count here. "All I see are people walking by..." "The company was l
"You're wearing that outfit again," Haxilla said as I walked out to my room."What?! Today is my actual interview," I said and sat down for breakfast.Britanny was preparing the food on the table, and my brow furrowed when I noticed a cake that was unusual on our breakfast table."Why are we having a cake? Today is none of our birthdays.""That's our good luck gift for you," Britanny said, smiling as she sat down.I'm not sure what happened, but my heart began to skip a beat."Thank you for being so sweet." I was about to hug them when they backed away.I came to a halt and gave them a cold stare. They didn't love me, hmp! I sat down in my chair with a betrayed expression on my face.
"Wait, you're saying the glasses you broke in your life are the most important requirement?" Incredulous, Haxilla inquired. In the interview, I told them everything that had happened the day before."Yes, when I was aware of it. My heart was racing so fast, "I said this as I was cutting paper for a flower origami. We're assisting Britanny with her client's debut design."That's strange. By the way, you're friends now with Haru?" Britanny inquired as she glittered the flowers."No, I'm not sure. Perhaps just a casual get-to-know-each-other?""Do you have a photo of him?"In response to Haxilla's question, I shook my head.My phone rang as we were putting the finishing touches on the flowers a
"You passed out again yesterday, Haru brought you home." I choked on what Haxilla said. I wipe my mouth after drinking. "H-How did he know our address?" I asked, confused. She pinched me on my belly. "Are you that really stupid?" she said while pinching my belly. "A-Ah, that hurts Hax!" I exclaimed. "You applied for them, so it's normal to know your information, moron!" I pouted my lips and continued eating my soup. My brows furrowed when I was trying to remember what happened yesterday. Do we stand under the sun for me to pass out? Argh, I don't know. My head still hurts.
"Where did you go the day before? What made Britanny come to you first?" While preparing breakfast, Haxilla inquired."I went to the mall to get the foods you requested," I explained while eating my bread and chatting with Haru on Instagram. He texted me last night about what happened to us in his car. It is, however, very good.Shocks, every time I recall my cheeks burning up. We've only known each other for about a month, but we did that "thing."He sends me random messages, tells me jokes and serious stuff, but never mentions his personal life. I didn't coerce him into telling me; it's still his personal space.Everytime he sents a message, I can't stop myself to smile, it always gives me a butterfly in my stomach feeling."Hey, who's that guy that made you blush?" Britanny suddenly took my phone away so I need to chase her.I'm dead i
"Can you tell me why you chose that location for your engagement party?" Haxilla asked Kaley a question that made me roll my eyes."Isn't it self-evident—""Shut up, I'm not asking you," she said, and my mouth opened slightly in surprise. What on earth did she say?!"Wow, you're talking to me like that now, huh?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued by what she had just said."Why? Is it illegal for me to speak to you in this manner?!" She fought back, and the fact that her voice rose to the surface was the cause of Kaley's panic."Hello! Try not to battle here, my God! OK, Haxilla, I picked that place since that is the thing that Aunt Lea's need. She truly pushed us to pick that spot," Kaley clarified while taking a gander at us in the back reflect.I inclined toward the vehicle's window and watching the raindr
"Haxilla, clean up your mess here!""I don't want to do it because you're the one who started it.""Wow, my coffee wouldn't have spilled if you hadn't bumped my arm!"What's going on this early in the morning?I shook my head in frustration and walked out of my room half-awake. I witnessed Haxilla and Britanny yelling at each other over a spilled cup of coffee."Oh, my goodness, Britanny! Simply wash it—"They stopped fighting when I grabbed a rag and began mopping up the spilled coffee on the floor."S-Selena, you're awake," Britanny said while watching me mopping the spilled coffee.I stood up and sighed in their presence."I can't imagine how messed up your house will be if you don't have a maid," I said, and they averted their gaze, perhaps because they were embarrassed.
When I went into the coffee shop to change my clothes, an old lady asked, "What happened to you?" "Oh, my coffee spilled all over my shirt." I crack a grin. She also smiled and touched my face, which made me squirm. "I remember my daughter to you. Anyway, take care always and don't tell a lies again." She left me speechless and puzzled after saying those words. "Perhaps her daughter is on her way out of the country." I took a few steps to the bathroom and dialed Britanny's number. [Hello, how are you? Did you hear about the bus that exploded, by the way?] "Yes. Bring me my beige long-sleeved polo from my white closet, Britanny." [Why? What went wrong?] I sighed and rolled my eyes as I wiped the coffee from my breast. "Just do what I said; I'll be late
"Wylow! Come here, baby." I wiped Wylow's mouth that is full of chocolate, Haru gave me an extra tissue. "Britanny should be the one who is doing that." He said, I threw the used tissue on his face. "She's busy on preparing the foods." He sat down at my side while fixing Wylow's hair, "If we ever have a baby, she will be beautiful like you or he will be more handsome than me?" I pushed him with all my strength, "Stop that nonsense. I didn't even give you a permission to court me again." "I can court you in bed," he said while twitching his eyebrows up and down. Yuck, he's so disgusting. We left him there, I heard him calling my name, but I ignored it. While waiting for Britanny and Haxilla, I scrolled at my feed. "Their baby is so cute." Maxine posted their family picture for the
BRITTANY'S POV "Drive faster, Wade." I'm praying hard while we're on our way to Selena. I keep on telling myself that nothing bad will happen to her, nothing. She'll be safe while waiting for us. Wade tried to overtake from the cars in front of us. We both became annoyed when the red light appeared in the traffic lights. This shit, we need to get there faster, we don't know what things can Jacob do to Selena. "Jaxon is here already," Haru said when we saw men that are lying on the ground unconscious. I'm a bit amazed on how Jaxon did this all by himself, he's an ace. We followed Haxilla when she suddenly run at the warehouse. We saw that Jacob hitting Jaxon at the other side, while Selena almost lost her voice because of her screaming. I immediately run to her while our other friends trying to stop the men of Jacob. "Get away of here with Jaxon,"
SELENA'S POV "Do you want to have a wine?" Jacob asked me while holding a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. I smiled at him and get one wine glass. We are quiet while appreciating the beauty of the stars at night and a tasty wine. It's been a while since I felt this kind of peace, it is so satisfying. "Are you feeling well now?" he asked after a long silence. I nod, "Hm, thanks to you." "That's nothing—oh, wait, someone is calling." When he gets out of the room, I immediately tapped the recording app on my phone and checked the other phone if it's already linked to the other one. Since I found the GPS device at my bracelet, something unsual starting to bother me. His footsteps are getting closer and louder, that's why I just kicked my other phone under the bed because I panicked. "Did you wait for l
HARU'S POV "What is she doing there?" I asked myself when the GPS was at the empty lot, a bit far away from their house. Did Jacob just... Oh, shit! No, it can't be! I immediately get my keys and jackets, rushed to get to my car to go where Selena is. While driving, my heart beating so fast that it can go out of my ribs at any moment, the cold sweats also covered my forehead and palms. "What?" I answered Haxilla call. [Where are you going? Why you're so in rush?] I'm biting now my nails because of anxiety, "How did you know?" [I'm about to go to your house and saw you that you're in rush. I'm actually behind your car now.] A red car is tailing me, that's Haxilla. She shouldn't follow me, she can't see the body of her sister if ever that Jacob did something brutal. That bastard, I should have killed him
SELENA'S POV "You don't need to do that." Jacob appeared at my side and took away the dishes from my hands. He smiled at me that made me pout, he is always smiling at me like it will convince me to do whatever he says to me. I rolled my eyes and continue washing the dishes," I'm fine, okay? It's not that hard." His stares are making hole to my soul, it made me look back at him while my brows are furrowed. "What's the thing with that stare?" I asked him. "What if Jaxon didn't do that thing? Do you think you will be in this kind of situation?" He asked me back that made me shocked and get hit by realization. I smiled, "No one wants it to happen, and he's not the one to blame why my life became like this. It's his parents." Even though my heart literally crushed into pieces when I knew the news about him
HARU'S POV "Where are you going?" Jacob asked as he stopped at my front. I ignored him and continue my walk to Selena's house, he suddenly pulled my arm to stop me again. "What's your problem?! I just want to check if Selena is fine," I shouted at him. He smirked, "She's not that well, so please, go back wherever you're from because any moment now, Selena will wake up." And motioned the way out of this house. I put my hands at my pocket and directly looked at his eyes, "What's your plan?" "What do you mean?" "I know you're planning something, that's why you keep on getting close with Selena." He laughed and tapped my shoulder, "You're so observant, Haru. That's right, I'm doing this to get her trust and my business will run smoothly." "What?!" My forehead creased, my fist clenched and any moment from n
ALEXA'S POV "Alexa! Alexa!" I looked at Haven, who is running hurriedly towards me, "What's the matter?" I asked. She showed me her phone, an article is there, Sir Jaxon and Ms. Maxine are the thumbnail of that article, "Read it." She let me get her phone, so I can read properly the article. My eyes widened while reading it, this must be a fake news, there's no way that Sir Jaxon will do it to his wife. "That's fake news for sure," I said and give her back her phone. She stomped her feet while shaking my shoulder, insisting that it's real. "Haven, please, we have so much to do here to believe that kind of shit." "It's real." Konrad suddenly appeared at her back. He told Haven to leave my office, he looked at me while dropping off the documents that I asked him. "Don't tell that you believe it—" "Sir Ja
SELENA'S POV "Nanny Karen? Can you help us—" my words cut when her room is empty. Where did she go? I walked downstairs to ask Haxilla. "Where's Nanny Karen? I can't find her," I asked Haxilla while looking around the house. She throws me a balloons and tapes, instead of answering my questions. "Put some air for that and put it around the banner." "I'm asking you if you know where Nanny Karen go," I repeat my question. "She picked up the others on the airport. Hurry, they'll be here any minute," she said and run to Hershey when she heard it cry. I shrugged and fix the other decorations, while doing it, someone knocks on the door. "Please open the door, Sel. Maybe it's the cake I ordered." As I finished tying up the balloons, I walked quickly to the door, a delivery man holding a box of cake smiled at me, "Delivery for Haxill
THREE WEEKS LATER SELENA'S POV Haxilla runs towards me while holding a bouquet, "I bought you your favorite flowers! Coral roses." "Thank you," I looked at her and smiled, "Do you want to go to Bay Area with me?" She shook her head that made my shoulder to fall, "I'm busy for Raven's surprise party," she whispered and shake my shoulders. "All right, all right, stop it. What are your plans now?" "I'm planning to tell Wade and Haru to come over, a little reunion to be precise. What do you think?" she excitedly asked. "Hmm," I hold my chin and acts that her idea is bad. She holds my arm and pouted at me, she's so cute. No wonder we're siblings. "You don't like it?" "Did I say something?" She throws a tantrum, "Just tell me if it's good or bad!" "It's g
