“Take it easy, don’t strain yourself,” I whispered, gently leading him into the house, even though he insisted that he doesn’t need help.

Alex chuckled, kissing my forehead lightly. “I’m okay, Martha. I’ve told you for the millionth time already. I think I can survive walking into the house on my own,” he teased.

I pursed my lips, mind filled with doubt, but I left him alone as he said, allowing him to walk without using me as support.

The “house” in general, was Kai’s house, where he graciously invited us to stay, at least until Alex gets better.

He insisted that we stay, because there was no certainty that Lucian might still be monitoring us, plus he wanted Alex to be taken good care of.

“You’re welcome to our lovely home,” Lindsay greeted, with her ever-present smile dancing on her lips. “Please, feel free to explore and have whatever you like. If you need anything, just ask me or Kai,”
