Chapter 21

It was already the afternoon when Brooklyn woke up. He felt lost when he saw the empty space beside him and wondered where Dimitri was. He put his pajamas on, got out of bed, and shuffled out of the room.

"You're awake, Mr. Hart." A maid hurried over to him to help him downstairs when she saw him. "Remember to change into something else later. You're attending a banquet tonight."

"A banquet?" Brooklyn didn't understand why these rich people had so many banquets to attend.

"Yes, that's right. It's Mr. Wood's mother's birthday celebration. He's gone back to the main residence to deal with it," the maid said with a smile. "There will be many important people present. And so, as Mr. Wood's fiancé, you have to keep up appearances."

Brooklyn didn't say anything. How could someone like him, who was from the underground level, keep up any sort of appearance? He was nothing but a lowly peasant who'd never experienced things like these. He didn't want to embarrass Dimitri.
