Chapter 82

It was morning, and Elena’s eyes opened. She stirred on the bed and stretched her body while yawning. She had not had a good sleep in a long time.

She felt really happy for Alex coming to her rescue. What would have happened to her if she was put there alone? Somehow she thought Nicklaus would come to her, but he didn't.

Alex woke up very early to prepare breakfast for Elena. He tried all of his best to help her relax. Seeing the way she broke down yesterday.

When he was done cocking, he nervously arranged the meal on a wooden tray and walked up to her doorway, gently knocking on her door.

“Come in,” she responded as she sat upright on the bed.

Alex walked into the room with a smile on his face. “Good morning, Elena. I hope you rested well,”

“Good morning, yes, I did thank you,” she responded and smiled.

“You prepared breakfast this early?” she asked as she looked at the tray.

"Well, you need to eat something and refuel,” he spoke while walking to meet her.

Elena perceived the nice aroma of the meal, and it made her stomach growl.

“This smells nice. I can't wait to have a taste of your meal,” she spoke.

Alex smiled and gestured for her to eat. “Go on, have a taste.”

She ate to her satisfaction as they both talked and laughed. She tried to remove her mind from the disturbing situation, but it wasn't working.

Alex noticed her mood; he stopped and asked, “Elena, are you okay?

“No, I am not alright,” she spoke. She raised her head up. “Alex, can I ask you a favour?” she asked.

He nodded his head. “Go ahead,"

“Do you mind taking me to my family's house? I would like to go back there,” she spoke.

Alex felt disappointed. He wasted Elena staying with him for a few days, but he remembered the whole situation, so he agreed without saying a single word.

Elena was hoping that she could stay with her family, and after some time, Nicklaus could come back to his senses with the help of her father.

She was hoping for everything to be alright and that her life would be beautiful again.

Alex went to his room and freshened up. Elena had a hot bath and prepared to leave. She tucked the bed and made sure it was neatly arranged before taking her luggage and stepping out.

Alex helped her with her little luggage, and there was an awkward silence between them as they walked into the elevator.

Alex didn't want to say a word to Elena, but he wished she stayed back. He wished they spent more time with her since he had lived with her since they were in high school, but he didn't want to tell her about his feelings.

It is already a great opportunity for him now that she is divorced; this way he can slowly win back Elena and make her his wife. He cursed at Nicklaus for not knowing what he had.

They walked into the car, and after a long drive through the city of Los Angeles, they arrived at the house.

Elena and Alex walked in as she held her luggage in her hands. She wore a black sunshade to conceal the dark circles and eye bags in her eyes.

She walked through the front foot with Alex walking beside her. He reached for her hands and squeezed them gently for support. Elena stopped in her tracks when I saw my family. They were all seated in the dining room having breakfast.

Mr. Williams didn't say a word, so Elena kept walking forward to the dining area when a voice stopped her. “Where do you think you are going?” An old lady's voice came up from the dining room. It was my stepmother. She stood up from the dining area and gave Elena a daring look.

“Good day, Mom. Good day, Dad.” I greeted them; her voice was soft and calm, but they did not respond to her greetings.

“I asked a question. Answer me. Where do you think you are going?” Her stepmother repeated, her voice rising. It broke the peace in the large room.

Elena froze midway and took a step backward. Sarah gave her a daring look, and she didn't know what to do. She gnashed my teeth and fixed my eyes on the floor.

“I am coming back home,” Elena spoke. That's when her father stood up from his seat and gave her a dating look.

“What do you mean by that?” he asked. “After embarrassing me and almost leaving me helpless and to rot in jail, you are useless to me,” my father shouted. Elena’s eyes widened, and her heart slammed hard against her chest.

"Father, it is all a setup. You know me better than anyone else. I would never do that.” Elena spoke; her voice cracked.

"Oh, shut your crab. We know all of your dirty secrets. You just forgot to cover your tracks well,” her stepmother spat.
