Chapter 81

Elena’s POV:

I looked to see a car stopped in front of me, and the car door was opened. A tall guy came down the car and approached me. The figure looked so much like Nicklaus, but when he came closer, it was a completely different person.

It was Alex.

He stood tall, and his looks were imposing; his facial expression was serious.

“Let go of her,” he ordered the guys, and they all giggled.

“And if we don't? What are you going to do, man?” one of the guys asked. He turned around and stood in front of Alex.

Alex gave them a daring look, and they slowly moved away. “Hey, bro. Relax. We only wanted to have fun. You can have her,” they said and walked out. Alex's eyes fell on him, and he rushed to sit close to me. “Elena, why are you out here alone?” he asked.

I exhaled deeply and gathered the courage to speak. “Well, I have nowhere else to go,” I responded with a trembling voice.

“Come with me; you need to get rest,” he spoke.

I held on to him, and he opened the car door for me.

It was a long drive, and that was actually what I needed. To clear my head and enjoy the peaceful ride.

Alex glanced at me, Elena,” he called.

I quietly, slowly wiped my tears and turned to him.

“What is going on? Why were you out there alone? It could be dangerous,” he asked.

“Alex, please, I don't want to talk about it right now,” I said and sniffed from time to time.

He didn't say a word, and I felt grateful for his silence. That was what I needed at that moment.

After a while, we arrived at a penthouse on the rooftop of a beautiful residential apartment. Alex walked me in and showed me to my room.

His apartment definitely looks. “This is my penthouse. Please make yourself feel at home and have enough rest. You have been stressed lately,” he spoke.

He wanted to walk away when I reached for his hands. “Alex,” I called, and he turned to me. “Thank you so much.”

He looked at me and gently sat down beside me on the bed. “Elena, you don't have to thank me. You are my very good friend, and it's a good thing I am keeping you safe,” he spoke.

“I may not know what is going on with you; just know that you can always come to me if you need someone to talk to. Now get some rest, and I will see you in the morning,” he spoke.

“I and Nicklaus had divorced.”

Alex stopped in his tracks and turned around to me. He narrowed his eyes and walked closer to me when he noticed my tears.

Tears began to form in my eyes and they rolled down my cheeks. “Elena. It is okay. Don't cry,” he spoke and patted my back. I leaned on his chest and cried uncontrollably until I couldn't cry anymore.

“It's alright, Elena,” he said; his voice was calm. I was beginning to get relaxed on his chest.

His breath was so fresh, and his body felt warm.

“Everything is going to be alright. Now go to bed, and tomorrow we will know what to do,” he spoke.

“I will have to freshen up; you don't want to see me like this tomorrow morning,” I chuckled.

“Yes, you are right.” He spoke and gave me a peck on my forehead, “Take care of yourself. Everything is going to be alright,” he said.

I nodded my head and forced a smile. I didn't know if everything would truly be alright. I just hope it will be some day.

I got into the shower. I changed into my nightmare and lay on the bed to sleep.

“No, don't leave me.”

“Don't do this to me.”

“Why would you leave me?” I shouted, and immediately, my eyes opened, and I quickly looked around, panting.

After some time, my breathing became stable, and I placed my hand on my forehead to clean up to sweat. I had been having constant nightmares alone. I hugged myself and wished Nicklaus was by my side to tell me everything was going to be alright.

I curled my body and slowly started drifting off to sleep.
