Chapter 72

Elena’s POV:

I lay on my bed, still sobbing from an argument I just had with my dad. I hadn't felt this used in my life.

All they just wanted was for me to fulfil my own part of the deal. I was even feeling satisfied that Nicklaus and I had found love, but I couldn't understand what was going on.

There was nobody to stand up and fight for me. I am weak.

Irina sat beside me as she consoled me. I cried continuously when I heard a loud sound coming from the hallway.

I sat upright and whipped my eyes while giving Irinaa a questioning look. “Who are those?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.

I quickly stood up and opened the door when I saw Nicklaus and three of his bodyguards. Nicklaus's eyes fell on me. “Oh, there you are,” he said, and he walked into my room.

I quickly stood up. “Nicklaus, what's going on?” I asked, narrowing my eyes and waiting for answers.

He scanned the room and fixed his eyes on me. “I see you have moved into this room. What are you hiding?” He asked, boring deeply into my eyes.

“What do you mean, Nicklaus?” I asked. “I moved here because you had been distant lately,”

"Oh, cut that crap. I know your dirty secret, Elena. You have just messed with the wrong man,” he said.

“What is going on here?” I asked. My chest tightened, and I felt like the worst was about to happen.

Nicklaus raised his hand and threw a paper at me, and it landed on the ground. I looked at the floor and at Nicklaus.

“Go ahead, take a look at it. Are you scared?” He asked while looking at me with so much disgust.

I bent down and picked up the paper. I went through it immediately, and my eyes widened when I saw my name and my signature on the bottom." I raised my eyes to Nicklaus. “What... what does this mean, Nicklaus? I asked.

“Enough of your dirty games, Elena. I know what you are up to. You want to embezzle funds from my company, which is why you secretly bought eight shares from Mr. Xavier; his time is ready to go down,” he spoke.

My eyes narrowed, and my heart pounded hard against my chest. “What do you mean by that? I never bought shares from Mr. Xavier. Who is he?” I asked to feel confused.

Just Nicklaus's father arrived and walked into the room. Together with her father, Mr. Williams, and her sister, Sarah.

Zoey also arrived; I had been expecting her.

Nicklaus placed his hands on his waist and walked around the room. “You have two minutes to explain yourself, and I will spare you,” he said,

I“Nicklaus, I have no idea about this,” I pleaded. “The only business idea in my head right now is going to culinary school, and you know about it,” I said, trying to defend myself.

He raised his eyes and fixed them on me. "Elena, the clock is ticking,” he said. “Tell me what you know about that, or face my wrath,”

“I have nothing to say.” I spoke and kept quiet.

Nicklaus fixed his eyes on me, and he walked to the guards. “That's it. If I find a copy of this document in your possession, just know that I will press charges against you for theft, and this will be the end of our marriage,” he said. His voice was filled with rage, and I could see veins popping out of his head.

Elena’s eyes widened; she was shocked to see such words coming out of Nicklaus, but she knew that she was innocent. She had no idea who that man was and had never muddled in Nicklaus's company.

“Search all you want. I am innocent, and you will find out today,” I shouted, feeling fed up and angry.

Immediately, I walked to the bedside, and Nicklaus signalled his bodyguards. They turned the whole room upside down as they searched. Everyone was quiet, and they all watched.

The bed was turned aside, and all my clothes and bags were scattered. It was getting tiring, and deep down I was relaxed because they would see something when one of the bodyguards brought out a paper from one of my bags.

“Sir, I found something,” he said.

My eyes widen, and I walk forward. I was taken aback. Nicklaus walked to the bodyguard and took the paper.

He gave me a daring look, and his fist was tightened at his side. I quickly rushed to him and took the paper, and my eyes widened when I saw the same document with my name and my signature on the paper.

“What? How could this be?” I turned around, and all eyes were on me.

A signature about signing some of the shares in the Coleman company? It can be. It didn't sign that. Could it be a prank? But it doesn't look like it.

My jaw dropped and my chest tightened as I looked at everybody in the room.
