Chapter 24

Elena’s POV:

It’s been three weeks since we came back from our honeymoon, and everything seemed perfect. My new life had been perfect and even way more beautiful than I ever imagined it with Caleb.

Nicklaus has been very nice to me; he took care of me, and we have grown close together. We now share a strong bond.

I have become so fond of him that I always find myself thinking about him whenever he is at work. We always talked on the phone and went on dinner dates.

This morning, we decided to have breakfast together. I came downstairs before Nicklaus and chatted with the chef. I had built a strong relationship with the workers, and we usually have conversations now and then.

Nicklaus sat him down after a few minutes, and we sat in the dining area. I decided to serve myself a cup of coffee. Nicklaus gave me a stern look.

“Why are you chatting with the chef and serving yourself?” he asked.

Before I could say anything, I heard a loud sound on the dining table, and I looked towards Nicklaus, his fist slammed hard on the table.

“Why didn’t you serve her coffee?” He asked, looking at the chef. His voice was rising.

“I’m sorry, sir,” he apologised.

I turned to Nicklaus, “I decided to serve myself. It’s no big deal.” I spoke.

He turned to me with his piercing gaze, and he bored into my soul with his eyes. “I make the rules in this house, and all of my workers are meant to serve you,” he growled.

“Do I pay you all to disrespect my orders?” he asked. His voice was filled with rage.

I tried to speak up to calm him down, but he wouldn't listen to me.

“Elena, this is my house. You are my wife, and I make the rules here as Mrs. Coleman. You are never meant to serve yourself, is that clear?”

I nodded my head slightly.

“If any of you disrespect my orders anymore, consider yourself fired,” he blurted out.

All the workers nodded their heads, and they stood still on the ground. Their bodies were trembling.

“Good. I have made my orders clear in this now. Now let’s eat,” Nicklaus said. He dug into his meal and started eating.

I dropped the napkin on the table and stood up from my seat. I quickly ran upstairs and locked myself in the bedroom.

I decided to lie on the bed for some time, and I did not know when I fell asleep.

After a few hours, I heard a knock on my door, which caused me to open my eyes. The door was swung open, and Nicklaus walked into the room.

I sat upright and rested my head on the headboard. With my gaze fixed on Niklaus, he was holding a shopping bag and a bouquet in his hands.

“What do you want?” I asked. Shifting my gaze to the other side of the room.

He walked into the room and sat on the bed, staring into my eyes. "Elena, I’m sorry. What happened earlier?” he spoke.

“Nicolaus needs to understand that I am not a slave. I am your wife. I am Mrs. Coleman, and I can wish to do whatever I wish to do,” I said.

Niklaus fixed his eyes on the floor. “You are Mrs. Coleman, and that’s how you are meant to be treated, like a queen, because you’re my queen,” he said. “Please forgive me for acting the way I did earlier. I just want all of my workers to be professional with you, and besides, you're still recovering.”

My mood lightened up when Nicklaus apologised and smiled a little, trying to hold back my excitement.

He leaned in and kissed me on the forehead. “I got this for you, Mrs. Coleman.” He said he was handing the shopping bag to me.

“What’s in there?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“Check it out,” he said, extending the shopping bag to me.

I got out of bed and opened the shopping bag to see what kind of flowers and a nice red dress there were.

I know Nicklaus too well. I can read him in and out, and I am sure he is up to something.

“It’s for the dinner party tonight,” he said.

“This is lovely; it’s so beautiful. Thank you so much. I have more than enough dresses in my closet already, and I haven’t even worn up to half of them.” I replied.

Nicklaus smiled. “Well, I just wanted to get you something, and I know this dress will look good on you tonight.”

“See you tonight. I will be in the study,” Nicklaus said and walked out of the room.
