Nicklaus’ POV:
Elena was lying on the bed, shivering. Her face was pale, and she looked weak. I quickly ran to the other side of the bed.My eyes widened.
I held her hand in mine, and it was so cold to touch. I could feel her trembling, and I didn't know what to do.
“Elena, are you alright? what's wrong?" I asked with my voice low, and it trembled. I stroked her hair, trying to make her conscious of it, but she didn't respond. She was too weak to talk.
I was scared and didn't know what to do. I tried to calm my mind, but I couldn't stop myself from panicking.
“Get me my phone,” I ordered, Mr. Mike, my butler, who stood beside me as we both tried to wake Elena.
I cupped her face with my arms. "Elena, can you hear me? What's going on? Do you have a fever?" I knew I needed to get her help as soon as possible.
Mr. Mike walked in and handed me the phone. I dialled my doctor's number immediately, and he picked up on the first ring.
“Dr. Thompson, I need you here right now.” I spoke urgently.
“Right away, sir.”
I quickly rushed to the bathroom and got a towel soaked in cold water. I placed the cold towel on her head to stabilise her. I learnt this method from my grandma. She usually did it whenever I had a fever when I was a little boy.
After a few moments, the doctor arrived and walked into the room. I felt relieved. I stood up, stepped aside, and watched him check on her.
He checked her vitals and turned them to me. “She had a fever and some allergies,” he said, and he brought out a tablet of medication and handed it to me. “She should start taking her medications in no time so that she will get better in no time.”
“With these medications, she will get better in a few days.”
"She had a fever and some allergies, but with rest and medication, she'll be fine.”
I thanked the doctor and walked him out, feeling a little relieved that Elena would be fine very soon. I returned to her side and called Mr. Mike and Irina.
“Please move all of her stuff to my room right away,” I said, carrying Elena with my hand in a bridal style. “She will stay here with me from now on. I need to keep a close watch on her.”
I lay her down and put her in a comfortable position, popping pillows on her back and covering her with the duvet. I ran my hands through my hair and ensured that she was comfortable.
My chef brought some chicken soup and some fresh juice. He placed it on the table, and I carefully fed her on the bed, and she took her medications.
I changed her into her pyjamas. She looked so fragile and vulnerable. After a few hours, she fell asleep. I quickly lay on the other side of the bed to get some rest.
As the night went by, I heard a little sound in my sleep. I woke up immediately to see Elena stirring and turning on the bed. I quickly held her close to me and tried to calm her down. “Shh, it's okay; I'm here. You're safe," I whispered, stroking her hair.
She held on to me, her eyes still closed, and I held her until she fell back asleep. I stayed beside her, watching her sleep and making sure she was okay. She must have had a terrible past for her to have constant nightmares.
I wondered what she must have gone through in the past. I am sure it wasn't easy for her growing up. All of the pain and traumas had made her broken.
I will always guide and protect her. She is now a part of me.
****
I woke up in the morning with Elena in my arms. When I blink my eyes open, I notice her beautiful features. She looked so beautiful, even in her sleep. Her lips curled into a little smile.
I gently brushed the strands of hair out of her face. I watched every detail of her face, from the shape of her eyebrows to the curve of her lips. She looked so pretty even in the morning.
I wish I could stay in bed with her all morning, but I had an important meeting at the company. I will be signing a billion-dollar deal with some of my investors. I cannot afford to be absent and keep them waiting.
I quietly stood up and walked into the bathroom. I allowed the warm water to cascade down my body.
I changed into a navy blue Armani suit, and I arranged my cufflinks. I brushed my hair while looking at my reflection in the mirror.
I walked up to Elena and planted a little kiss on her face. “I will be back soon. Get some rest,” I said, gently stroking her hair.
I grabbed my briefcase and walked out, gently closing the door. I felt guilty that I had to leave her in this state.
“Irina,” I called from the hallway.
“Yes, sir,” she answered.
“Get all of Elena’s stuff and fix it in my room. We will now have a room together. When she wakes up, make sure she eats her breakfast and takes her medications,” I ordered.
I knew that Elena was in good hands, and Irina would take care of her. She had been my trusted worker.
Elena’s POV: It’s been three weeks since we came back from our honeymoon, and everything seemed perfect. My new life had been perfect and even way more beautiful than I ever imagined it with Caleb. Nicklaus has been very nice to me; he took care of me, and we have grown close together. We now share a strong bond. I have become so fond of him that I always find myself thinking about him whenever he is at work. We always talked on the phone and went on dinner dates. This morning, we decided to have breakfast together. I came downstairs before Nicklaus and chatted with the chef. I had built a strong relationship with the workers, and we usually have conversations now and then. Nicklaus sat him down after a few minutes, and we sat in the dining area. I decided to serve myself a cup of coffee. Nicklaus gave me a stern look. “Why are you chatting with the chef and serving yourself?” he asked. Before I could say anything, I heard a loud sound on the dining table, and I looked towards
Elena’s POV:I had my shower and freshened up. I walked up to the mirror in the closet and smiled when I saw the beautiful red dress Nicklaus had gotten for me for the party that night. He sure knows my favourite colour and the kind of things I like. I styled my hair into wavy curls. My skin had been glowing, and I had been looking way prettier. I decided to apply a little makeup to frame my face. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I smiled, feeling confident in myself. I wasn't just the simple girl who had never cared to apply makeup to my face, even though I was very good at it. I finally slipped into the dress. It was a maroon dress with a huge slit that stopped at my thigh. The waist was snatched, and the dress revealed my curves, which made me look elegant.Nicklaus doesn't like me wearing fitted dresses that reveal my curves in public. He likes me wearing such a dress for him alone. Why did he get a revealing dress?“This dress is too revealing. Maybe I should just change
Elena’s POV:Beep, Beep, Beep, BeepI heard the sound of my beeping phone, and I stirred on the bed. I woke up very early in the morning and stretched as my phone rang. I reached for my phone and looked at the screen. I sluggishly opened my eyes and looked through the screen. It was Nicklaus calling. He had travelled to Germany for a business meeting, and he had been calling me nonstop. We had been missing each other, and we were always speaking on the phone. I picked it up immediately. I had missed his voice badly. We spoke for some time, and I began feeling nauseous and tired. I had been feeling sick for a while, so I went back to bed, hoping to sleep off and gather enough strength for the day.I woke up after a few hours and felt worse than before. I managed to roll out of bed and walk into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and splashed water on my face to revive myself. The cool water made me feel refreshed. As I looked in the mirror, I knew something was wrong. I couldn't explain
Sarah’s POV: “It's not quite long since you came back from your honeymoon. I think you should do a pregnancy test, ma'am.” I heard noises coming from Elena's room.My eyes widened in shock, and I felt my jaw clench in my face. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. The word repeated itself in my mind. How could Elena be pregnant so soon?Pregnancy? Elena? This is not good for me. No, this had ruined my plans. Immediately my facial expression hardened. It was too hard to keep smiling. I just faked a smile and walked into the room to catch up with Elena. *** Earlier this morning****Earlier today, I woke up very early in the morning, and I was determined to pay a visit to Elena. I wanted to see if she was truly happy, just like what I read in the blogs, or if she had been in pain.I was aware that her husband was a billionaire’s heir, but I couldn't believe that he was healthy. All this time, I thought he was crippled, just like his old father. I lived my life full of regret, know
Elena’s POV:I wanted to object to Irina's suggestion, but I was caught off guard when the door was swung open. I turned around to see who it was, expecting to see Zoey, who had just returned to Los Angeles.I couldn't believe it was Sarah standing in the doorway. I looked at her like I had seen a ghost. What could she be doing here? None of my family cared to visit me ever since I got married and moved in here.I stood up from the bed, my heart beating fast as I looked at her. What is she doing here? Is she up to something again?"Sarah? What are you doing here?" I asked calmly.I remembered how she set me up on my wedding day and ruined everything, but that her plan made me happy. Her facial expression was mixed with sadness and regret, and I frowned at her and walked to the other side of the room.I looked through the window. I wasn't ready to have any conversation with her, and at the same time I couldn't send her out of my house. She slowly walked into the room and stood close t
Elena’s POV:“Zoey.” I called and wrapped my arms around her, and she hugs me tightly. “How have you been?” I nodded my head and smiled widely. “I am doing just fine.”Zoey turned in Sarah’s direction, who was standing on the other side of the room. “What are you doing here again? Haven't you caused enough harm already?” She asked, her voice stern.“I know I am not proud of what I did, and that is why I came here to apologize. I did it for the company, for Caleb’s heart,” she said.“Don't you dare mention that name again? I forbid you to mention that name where Elena is.” Zoey spoke, her voice rising.I walked up to Zoey and held her hands. “Zoey, common. It's a thing of the past, and I have moved on with my life. The most important thing here is that she has realised what she did and has come to apologise." I spoke calmly and gently. Zoey exhaled deeply, and she turned to me and said, “As long as you are now happy, that is what matters right now.” She spoke and reached for my hands
Nicklaus’ POV: Two days ago.It had been a long day at work for me. I sat behind the desk and operated my laptop. I stood up and walked around to see how the new application design was carried out.I and my team worked hand in hand to see that everything was perfect and going smoothly. I have been working to bring the company to its feet and maintain the position of being the first in the world.I got carried away with work, and before I knew it, the day had passed. I wasn't supposed to take so long, but business had to be done. I had to still maintain my position. I didn't want to mix business with you, please, but I found myself missing Elena. I couldn't wait to return to Los Angeles. I had been thinking about her since I travelled. I wondered how she was doing and if she was in good shape. I couldn't wait to see her. When I spoke with her last night, I noticed that she was sounding weak and tired, so I allowed her to sleep, hoping that she would regain her strength today. I hop
Elena’s POV:I held the test strips in my hands as I looked at the result. Zoey and Irina gave me a questioning look. I looked at them in confusion, and the words couldn't come out of my throat. I could not believe what I was seeing. It was as if it were all a dream. This is what Nicklaus and my family ever wanted. “Elena!” I heard a sound coming from the room. I raised my eyes because the voice was familiar and the door was swung open. It was Nicklaus. He quickly opened the door to run to me, but he froze when he saw what was in my hand. My breath ceased as I looked at him. My heart was beating fast, and my excitement was growing. “Did you?” he asked while he stuttered. “Did you take the test?” he asked. I nodded my head with a smile on my lips as I pressed my lips into a thin line. “I did the test,” I said. “What?” he asked. His gaze moved to the test strips. “I did the test.” I spoke out loud, and Nicklaus watched me in disbelief. I showed him the result, and his eyes widen
