Chapter 184

Elena’s POV:

My heart slammed hard against my chest as I stared at everybody. I was filled with confusion, and I tried to understand what I had just heard.

“What- what?” I stuttered with tears forming in my eyes. What are these people saying?

“What do you mean, Mr. Williams?”

Anna walked up to Elena with tears rolling down her cheeks. “Yes, Elena. Please forgive me,” she cried out, holding Elena, but Elena pushed her away.

“Let go of me. Mr. Williams, what is she talking about?” I asked.

"That is the truth, Anna. I am your biological father, and Anna is your biological mother,” he confessed.

“You both are liars. Leave me alone,” I spoke and ran outside. Sarah and Zoey stood in the doorway with their eyes widened.

I ran past them into the hallway. Zoey ran after her and called my name as she tried to catch up with me. “Elena! Elena, please wait,”

Zoey caught up with me and she squatted and wrapped her arms around me. I cried so hard that my body was shaking. I couldn't take it anymore.

It was too much to bear. How could this man turn out to be my biological father when he had always treated me like a slave? How could this woman turn out to be my mother?

I thought my mother left me. I thought she died. Every night in my dreams, I beg her to stay with me.

So all this while, we are all related by blood. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. “I can't believe it, Zoey. All this while they had kept this away from me?” I asked while sobbing.

“You have to take it easy on them, Elena. Please do,” she spoke.

She held me tight close to her, and I wrapped my arms around her. We stayed there for a few minutes until I became calm.

I pulled away and stood up. I strolled around trying to catch some air and pull myself together.

Just when I turned around, I saw the nurse standing in front of me. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she walked up to me.

I took a few steps backward, “Stay away from me; I am not your daughter. You are a liar. You are an imposter,” I shouted.

She took a few steps and stopped on her tracks, “My Elena. My baby,” she cried out.

“Stop calling me that. I am not your daughter; you are not my mother. My real mother is gone forever,” I shouted.

“Please listen to me. Elena. It is not what you think; I was young; I couldn't take care of you,” she explained, her voice trembling heavily.

“I don't care,” I spoke.

“Elena, my baby. I had to do what I could do so that you could survive. I had to give you out. I was broke; I couldn't give you the life you wanted. Your father abandoned me and got married to my best friend Emily. I was alone. I didn't know what to do; I was forced to get rid of the pregnancy, but I couldn't. That was my only way to protect you,” she explained.

My heart slammed hard against my chest. This is even more confusing than I thought.

“What are you talking about? You are lying to me,” I spoke as I walked up to her.

She shook her head as she sobbed, “No, Elena. If only you could just hear me out,” she spoke.

“Why didn't you just take me to an orphanage home if you never wanted me? Why did you keep me from growing up with those monsters? Why?” You all ruined my life,” I shouted as my throat cracked.

She took a step forward to me, and our eyes were fixed on each other. I could feel nothing but pain.

“Elena. There is more to this. Just let me explain,” she spoke.

“There is nothing to explain. Please leave me alone. Get out of my life the way you left me and never return. You can never be my mother,” I shouted.

Just then, tears dropped from her eyes, and she fell to the ground, sobbing. I ran past her to the other side. I needed to have some fresh air. I needed some breeze.

Zoey followed me from behind. She gave me the space that I needed as I tried to gather my thoughts together and think straight.

I stood at the entrance and watched the whole environment. “All I know is that I can never be a terrible mother to my child. Nobody fought for me.” I said.

I reached for my phone and dailed Nicklaus number. I needed someone to talk to. I needed him right now. His phone was not reachable.

I placed it back in my pocket and signed. Zoey walked to me and wrapped her arms around me. She held me tight until I was calm.

I could hear the sound of a siren from afar, and nurses rushed outside with a stretcher. They placed somebody on the stretcher and ran inside the building.

My eyes fell on the patient, and I could see Nicklaus lying helplessly with blood and bruises all over his body.

“Nicklaus,” I called out. My eyes widened in disbelief.
