Chapter 176

Sarah’s POV:

I walked into the study to see my mother sitting wearily on the chair.

I closed the door gently, narrowing my eyes, and walked to my mother.

“Mother, what's wrong? You sounded so urgent; pm the phone.” I asked, but she didn't respond.

I stared at her, and my eyes widened. “Mother, you are scaring me. What is the matter? Is Dad alright?” I asked.

She nodded her head and gestured for me to sit. “Please sit down, Sarah,” she spoke.

I sat on the chair opposite her, and my eyes never left hers. There was silence in the room as I waited for her to speak.

“Sarah, the file had gone missing,” Emily spoke;

My eyes widened, and my heart slammed hard against my chest.

“What file, what do you mean, mother?”

“The file to the shares of the Coleman company,” she spoke.

“What?” I asked and immediately ran into the library. I searched around but couldn't see anything. My mother followed me. “It was in this shelf,” she pointed out, “but now I can't find it,” she spoke.

My jaw dropped. “What? Why didn't we get rid of those original documents? I shouted.

“We needed it. We needed it for the money that was coming out of it. Do you think those billions I was using to run this house were from your father’s company? His company doesn't have a dime as profit. It's flat,” she shouted.

“What? I thought-” I tried to speak, but she caught me off.

“You better stop thinking. We need to find out who took the files,“ she shouted.

I felt my head becoming hot like it was on fire. I quickly walked around and scattered around the library, searching for the document.

“It should be here. We need that document,” she said. After a while, I became exhausted and turned to her. “Where is the butler? Yes, the butler. Mr. James, I guess or whatever he calls himself,” I asked.

Immediately, we both ran out of the study and locked the door.

“James,” I called pit on the hallway as we walked.

“Mr. James, where the fuck are you? Come here right now!” I shouted as I reached the staircase.

Immediately, he ran up to me, “Mrs. Coleman. What do you need me to do for you?”

“Did anybody in this house go into my father’s study?” I asked.

“Not at all, madam,” he responded, shaking his head.

“Did you enter the study? Had my father ever asked you to go into the study since he was in the hospital?” I asked.

He shook his head. “Not at all, madam,” I spoke.

“Gather all the workers. We need to do a thorough search,” I ordered.

“Roght away,” madam. He spoke and went away.

My mother looked at me and said, “Sarah, what are you doing? What if the culprit didn't hide it here?” she asked.

“Mother, leave everything to me. I just want to scare them to speak up.” I spoke.

After a few seconds, the entire workforce was gathered on the front porch. I walked pit to dress them.

My eyes were fixed on them as I watched them with disgust. “Since my father had been in the hospital, had anybody entered the study? Who are the cleaners?” I asked.

They all shook their heads, and two of the workers stepped aside. “We are the workers, madam,” they spoke up.

“Have you been cleaning the study every day?" I asked.

They nodded their heads in acknowledgement, “Yes, madam.”

I walked up to them and fixed my eyes on theirs.

“Who are you working for?” I asked.

“Did you take out anything, any file from the study? Who sent you?” I asked.

“Madam, we didn't take out anything,” they spoke as their voice trembled. I saw the fear in their eyes, and I was ready to threaten them.

I turned to all of them. “If I find out any one of you took any file or you know something about it, consider yourself to spend the rest of your life in jail,” I spoke.

“You may leave,” I said, and they all dispersed. Just then, Mr. James walked up to me.

“Madam, I have something to tell you. Mr. Nicklaus was here the next day after your father was hospitalised,” she spoke.

That's when my mother walked up, “You are right. I saw him coming out the front door,” she spoke.

“Was he holding anything?” I asked.

My mother shook her head, “No, he wasn't.”

“He was in the study for a few seconds, and he walked out empty-handed.". My eyes were on him the whole time. Mr. Williams sent him on an assignment,” he spoke.

“I will get to the root of this,” I said and walked out. I drove out to my mansion, and I got into my room. I paced around the room feeling restless.

I wondered if Nicklaus made away with the documents; did he find out about it?” I wondered.

Just then I reached for my phone and called Mr. John. One of Nicklaus's trusted lawyers who now works for me.

“Mr John. What is going on with Nicklaus?” I asked.

“Well, madam Sarah. Mr. Coleman had reopened the case again. He is so serious about it. He is working hand in hand with the investigators,” Nicklaus's lawyer spoke.
