Chapter 143

Elena’s POV:

It is a Saturday afternoon, and the birthday trip is over. Elena, her son, and Zoey arrived in Oregon after a long trip from the resort.

Elena walked into the house, and she collapsed on the couch. It's been a long trip back to Oregon, and they wish that the vacation would not end. “I am so exhausted,” she said. “Wave. You need to get some rest. I am too tired to cook. Should we do pizza?” she asked, looking at Wave and Zoey’s faces, waiting for their approval.

Wave and Zoey’s faces lightened up. “Yes, that will be great. We are so tired. I will place the order.” Zoey said and reached for her phone.

Zoey’s phone beeped with a notification, and her mood changed. I looked at her, “Zoey. Have you made the order or should I do it?” I asked.

She looked at me and smiled, “No, I already did. She said. “Let's freshen up before dinner arrives.”

“Sure,” I said, and I walked into the room to have a quick shower. Wave had already learnt to take his night shower in his room, but I gave him a helping hand when I was done with mine.

“It felt so relaxing, and I wished that the vacation would not end. Sam outdid himself this time around, and I feel grateful for him. I never knew he owned a resort that big. He must be a multi-billionaire to have such and many more,” I said to Zoey.

“That's right. You have no idea how ladies are drooling for Sam. I don't know why he still has a passion for cooking; he is successful,” and commented.

We were done getting ready, and the doorbell rang. “That should be the delivery guy; I will get it, “Zoey said and walked to the door.

We had a wonderful dinner as we ate and chatted. We watched N*****x movies and waves and slept on my legs. I took him to his room and tucked him in his bed.

"Goodnight, boy, I love you,” I said and kissed him on the forehead before walking out of the room. My phone buzzed with a notification from Sam.

“It's good to know that you are back safe. Have a wonderful night’s rest,” it read.

“Thank you. It was a wonderful treat. I owe you one,” I texted back and walked to the dining room.

Zoey was drinking a glass of wine, and I joined her. I tried to pour myself a glass when she looked at me. “You know you have to resume early at work tomorrow to take care of the important guests,” she said.

I nodded my head and poured myself a drink. “Yes, but I need something to clear my head. I have been mentally exhausted lately,” I said, rolling my eyes.

While we sipped our drink, Zoey picked up her phone and asked, "Have you read the news?” she asked

I shook my head and dropped the glass cup on the table. “What does it say?” I asked, fixing my eyes on her.

“Well, it says that billionaire Nicklaus Coleman is in Oregon,” she said.

My heart skipped a beat, and my lips were slightly parted. I swallowed hard. “Well, that is good for him. He travels a lot of business trios,” I said, trying to calm my nervous state.

Zoey glanced at me with her wide eyes, and she dropped her phone on the table. “If you see Nicklaus again? What would you say to him?” she asked.

I scoffed and sipped my glass of wine. “I have no idea. It's been five years. I don't even know how I would react.” I spoke.

“One thing that I am sure of is that he can never find out about his son. I will make sure of that. Not that there is even any chance of us meeting. He is the richest man in the world, and I am a waitress and a restaurant in the Nine’s Hotel,” I said while smiling.

“Okay,” Zoey said, but she looked at me closer. “You are sweating; are you okay?” she asked.

I placed my hand on my forehead. “Sweat? Now I am not,” I said nervously.

“But you are. Look, Elena, I am sorry if I made you feel nervous by bringing up Nicklaus. Please forgive me,” she said.

I smiled at her, “It's not been easy, Zoey, but I have moved on, and you don't have to apologize." Let's get to bed. We have work tomorrow, and we have to get up early,” I said as I finished my wine.

We both got up and wrapped our arms against each other. “Goodnight,” I whispered and walked into my room. I closed the door behind me and rested in it.

I let out a deep breath and collapsed in my bed. I tried not to think about what Zoey said as I forcefully closed my eyes to sleep, but I couldn't.

I just couldn't stop thinking about Nicklaus. Why is he in Oregon? What if he finds out about me staying in Oregon or he finds out about his son? That will not be good.

I shook my head, trying to snap out of it. “No, I can't let that happen. I won't let Nicklaus take my son away from me,” I muttered silently under my breath.

I will do everything to protect him. Nicklaus was never kind to me, and he treated me with hate. I just don't want any of them in my life. Not him, not Sarah, not my parent.

I snuggled deeper into my pillow and closed my eyes as I tried to fall asleep. All I could think of was Nicklaus. His face was the only face I could see clearly, even though it's been five years since I set my eyes on him.
